Wycombe Wanderers have parted company with manager Peter Taylor by mutual consent after their disappointing start to the League One season.

Taylor led the Chairboys to promotion from League Two last season but they are second from bottom in the table and have not won since 29 August.

His assistant Junior Lewis has also left the Adams Park club.

Head of youth development Richard Dobson will take caretaker charge for Saturday's game with Gillingham.

Taylor took over in May 2008 and led them to promotion in his first season, but results this term have cost him his job.

The 56-year-old has had a mixed managerial career, leading Gillingham, Brighton, Hull and Wycombe to promotions but having less illustrious spells at Leicester, Crystal Palace and Stevenage Borough.

He has also managed England Under-21s and been the country's senior caretaker boss for a friendly with Italy in 2000, where he made David Beckham England's captain for the first time.

Chairboys owner Steve Hayes told the club website: "Peter is an honourable man and he knew that it was time to move on.

Peter's successor will inherit an excellent squad of players and with 35 games still to play we're confident that our league position will improve

Wycombe owner Steve Hayes

"He came to me and said he was very disappointed with the way the season has begun and understood that things had to change.

"He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future and I want to place on record our gratitude for the excellent job he did for us last season in getting us promoted.

"Wycombe have a reputation for appointing good managers and I'm sure we'll get plenty of high calibre applicants.

"Peter's successor will inherit an excellent squad of players and with 35 games still to play we're confident that our league position will improve."

Probable, he got Wycombe promoted and the Tranmere board may be right in expecting him to get them out of the shit. The move to Tranmere wouldn't surprise me but he has had a number of failures even since his time here, so it would be a gamble.

Just having a quick look at his managerial stats. His record at Leicester is awful 19 wins in 54 games (35.2%), but his Wycombe record, despite getting promoted isn't much better, only 19 wins in 46 games(41.3%). He was probably only saved last year by the fact that of those other 27 games he managed 17 draws which just got them into the promotion places.

Just goes to show though, alot of people must have thought he was doing ok at Wycombe when you see they got promotion, but he wasn't, in fact his managerial record everywhere isn't brilliant. Apart from in his first spell in with the U-21, but working with the best youngsters in the country, you'd expect most coachs to do ok.

Lets hope this is him out of football managment for a while.

He did OK at Brighton... but that was about it. Was probably some of the backroom staff doing it for him then though. ;)

Anything in the region of 40% is a good record. ;)

He did very well at Hull.

Peter Taylor = Cunt. (Don't care what anyone says about Holloway IMO Taylor is the worst manager in our history)

Junior 'fooking' Lewis = Peter Taylor's arselicker.

Agree with this, Holloway merely hastened the decline of a team that was already struggling. Even with Mourinho at the helm, we'd have been in the bottom half that season. The team was that bad.

Taylor took a club that was at arguably the highest point in its history (regular top 10 Premiership finishes and European qualification) and destroyed it. He wasted money left, right and centre on players that were never going to be up to the task and was lucky to last as long as he did. How he still manages to find work is beyond me, but you can guarantee he will find a club that is stupid and desperate enough to give him 'one last chance.'

Couldn't agree more...

Don't know why anyone would want to choose Peter (The Tw*t) Taylor as their manager... useless bag of sh*t.

No. But there does always seem to be someone. He's the classic example fo football looking after its own.

Feel sorry for the next club's fans who have this cock jockey as their manager, bet his application is in at Tranmere already.

I wont easily forget his reply to a letter that I sent him pointing out that I thought Benjamin, Marshall, Wise and Lewis were some of the worst buys in LCFC history, he wrote back saying that we couldnt expect to sign the likes of Kevin Kilbane!!! obviously a player he admired?! he then invited me over to Belvoir Drive for a coffee and a chat.

Didnt take his offer up, as he was sacked 3 days later!

Bollocks, Hull City were absolutely begging to be dragged up the league, the resources they had were well adequate for Championship football. A series of subpar appointments like Jan Molby were the only thing keeping them in the bottom league, and Taylor didn't exactly get them there particularly efficiently, he used an awful lot of players and wasted a fair bit of money.

...but he made David Beckham England captain!!!! :santa:

Every article about him being sacked or leaving a club or joining a club has to mention that.

The one on the BBC about his latest dismissal being no exception.

It's ridiculous, he's been living off that claim to fame for 9 fooking years now!

And off his Norman Wisdom impersonation even longer, in fact Norman Wisdom probably would do a better impersonation of a football manager. :P

Taylor about to be appointed Assistant Manager at Ipswich?

Yeah I read that this morning. Just when you thought Ipswich couldn't sink any lower, you watch Taylor do his best to do just that :D
