Weale 5 - I sit on the side so have no idea what happened with the second, but it looked saveable from that range. The first was unlucky - it came through a crowd.

Neilson 6 - Good defensively, but absolutely clueless in attack.

Hobbs 5 - Too much hoof, not brave enough at times.

Brown 7 - Probably our best player. Strong in the tackle and good positionally. I'm a convert.

Berner 5 - Would give him 7 at left back but 3 in centre mid, so a 5 seems about right. We could just about get away with him in centre mid in league one, but totally out of depth in that position in the Championship.

Oakley 6 - Any idea why he went off. I felt that he did the right thing at the time in giving that free kick away - they were lucky it went in.

King 6 - Made some nice touches. Shame he went down in the build up to their second, allowing their guy to run forward unmarked.

Wellens 3 - The worst I've seen him play for City. Uninspiring in the tackle and a lack of vision when partnered by Berner. We needed him to carry us and he just didn't.

N'Guessan 6 - Direct, and won his fair share in the air. No end product today.

Waghorn 6 - The new Hume? Plenty of effort but no end product today?

Fryatt 6 - Linked play really well in the first half, pretty anonymous in the second other than setting up Gallagher.

subs:

Gallagher 4 - Gets one extra for the free kick. Other than that, didn't look interested at all.

McGivern 3 - The worst left back I've seen T City for years.

Howard 5 - Worked hard, little effect.

and... Mattcock 8 - Played very well I thought.

Weale 6 - From my view he should have saved the 2nd goal. But he did make up for it with a couple of cracking saves in the 2nd half. One dodgy moment also when Luke Moore (I think) hit the bar.

Berner 6 - Was very good at left-back but was ineffective in the centre.

Hobbs 6 - The lad is quality, assured on the ball imo but had a rather quiet game today.

Brown 7 - My opinion of him has really changed. Yes, he has no pace but he's quality at this level.

Nielson 5 - Simply not good enough for this division. He did make some good interceptions and slide tackles but Morrison is a MUCH better option.

N'Guessan 6 - typical DNG, blew hot and cold, was very quiet at times.

King 6 - I thought he was doing alright whilst he was on the pitch.

Wellens 6 - Not as bad as everyone was saying but we really needed him to have a much greater impact today.

Oakley 5 - Slowly becoming the Clemence of two years ago. Captain not so fantastic.

Fryatt 6 - Was kept very quiet today. Has chances to shoot but didn't feel like it.

Waghorn 7.5 - He provides a spark and inspiration for us. And an extra half for taking out Di Matteo.

McGivern 5 - Don't rate the lad.

Gallagher 6 - Dangerous.

Howard 6.5 - was a nuisance and won the free kick that we scored from.

EDIT: Ric Flair 0 - Miserable git.

Weale 6 (decent second half saves, Jara's goal looked like questionable positioning but I'd want to see it again on TV)

Neilson 5 (Left cruelly exposed with no right winger (Pearson's fault), struggled but did his best against a very good left winger)

Hobbs 7 (Pretty solid throughout, good in the air)

Brown 7 (A few strange decisions regarding his heading back but with Hobbs handled their strikers well enough)

Berner 5 (An off day, ok at left-back but way out of his depth in midfield)

Oakley 5 (Busy as usual but wasn't really that good before he came off)

Wellens 5 (I don't really see why everyone eulogises this guy, very slow, poor decision making, a few decent passes saved him)

King 5 (Grew into the game after a slow start)

N'Guessan 6 (Disappointed to see him subbed off, won everything in the air, looked threatening but no end product)

Fryatt 6 (Decent first half, looked dangerous, second half was anonymous)

Waghorn 5 (Plenty of effort, but nothing came off for him)

Gallagher 5 (Ineffective but created a goal at least)

McGivern 5 (Much better than previously but that couldn't have been hard, still dodgy)

Howard 4 (Uninspiring, time to go)

Weale 6.5-At fault for their 2nd but did pull off 2 good saves

Neilson 7

Hobbs 7.5-Won everything in the air.

Brown 7.5-Decent

Berner 7.5-Maybe not the greatest performance but I love his effort and determination.

Oakley 6.5

Wellens 6.5

King 6.5 Shame about his injury.

N'Guessan 6.5-In & out of the game, showed effort and strenght.

Fryatt 7.5-Better 2nd half nearly set up Gallagher and was denied by a good save.

Waghorn 6.5-Lots of effort

SUBS;

Gallagher 6.5-Shocking miss.

McGivern 6.5-Couple of clumsy tackles

Howard 6- I thought this game was crying out for him but when he came on he created nothing.

We can't blame the defence for today we restricted WBA to long range efforts, they got lucky with 1 and scored a flukey free kick.

Weale - 7 - Did good apart from the two conceded. Tbh, I thought the second curled slightly away from him as he went for it, but then I was viewing from the side.

Neilson - 7 - You keep getting stick fella, but I thought he was pretty solid.

Hobbs - 7 - No problems.

Brown - 7 - Organised the back four well.

Berner - 7 - Solid at LB.

Oakley - 5 - Did nothing of note. Uninspiring.

Wellens - 5.5 - Faded in and out. Faded in during our good spell which lasted all of 5 or so minutes.

King - 5 - Didn't notice him much today.

N'Guessan - 5.5 - Found himself in plenty of space but was never given the ball in space.

Fryatt - 5.5 - One touch too many syndrome.

Waghorn - 7.5 - Our best player imo. Kept on going and chased lost causes. Great application.

Subs:

McGivern - 4 - Terrible. Prone to many errors. And yet Neilson still gets the stick. The mind boggles, it really does.

Gallagher - 5.5 - Should have scored. Now we're down in numbers in midfield, play him in the hole NP.

Howard - 6 - Caused some problems when he came on. People will say he should have had longer.on the pitch, others will say he shouldn't have played at all... pfft.

We lost the game with a weak midfield today. Too lightweight. Change the system NP for the next game. 4 - 3 - 1 - 2 and play Gallagher in the hole.

It wasn't Di Matteo. It was his assistant.

Ratings forthcoming...

I'm pretty sure that Newton his assistant is black and I saw a white guy being taken out...

West Brom's 2 goals were not on the balance of play and rather fortunate. Leicester's luck was really out when Gallagher missed the sitter at the start of the 2nd half. Enjoyable though.

Weale 6 -not sure why he couldn't have been better placed to stop the first and where was he for the second. Nonetheless no luck at all.

Neilson 6

hobbs 7

Brown 7

Berner 6

Oakley 6

Wellens 7

N'Guessan 5 - not his game

King 7 shame to lose him and no one marking the scorer of the second goal

Waghorn 7 - not far behind Matty

Fryatt 8 -well played again Matty

Weale 6. From SK3 we could see the free kick all the way in. Think he should have set the wall to give himself a view and it was an error to be so unsighted. But good saves to stop a possible rout.

Neilson 5. Struggled to get back after his forays upfield. And found his winger too hot to handle sometimes.

Hobbs 7. Solid enough.

Brown 8. Mr Dependable again.

Berner 5. Tried hard for the team in midfield but wasn't able to adapt.

Oakley 5. An off day. Some good tackles, but didn't own the midfield even before he limped out.

Wellens 5. Also struggled. With neither Wellens or Oakley on song we were second to a lot of balls.

King 7. Thought he was the strongest in our midfield until he got injured.

N'Guessan 7. Had a good game. But with no end product. He'll come good, and against weaker opposition he'll do well with performances like today's.

Fryatt 6. Played well first half, but seemed to have lost heart in the second half.

Waghorn 6. Ran the West Brom defence ragged for little bursts but couldn't get the result.

Gallagher 5. Poor performance today. Too often he was slow. Should have scored the open goal at the start of the second half.

McGivern 5. Out of position too often. Not the solid left-back we wanted to show Mattock he wasn't missed.

Howard 6. Won a lot of ball, and created space for Fryatt by pulling defenders to him. But couldn't get in goal scoring positions.

Mattock 8. ****er played a more reliable game than we've seen from him in at least two seasons.

Overall it was a fair performance but against a West Brom team who were just too well-organised, too pacey and with too much movement on the ball and tenacity off it. This is how QPR must have felt on Friday.

Weale 6 - This guy rarely puts a foot wrong. First goal I think he was out of position, second had no chance as its moved so much I thought it may have had a huge deflection

Nielsen 6 - Did well defensively but Morrison is better bet

Hobbs 6 - Good game

Brown 7 - Excellent today, minor errors only

Berner 6 - Great as left back poor in Mf out of position but took his goal well

Oakley 5 - Was looking better than past few games before his injury. Can't give him more due to time on pitch

King 5 - Again did well until the injury

Wellens 5 - Worked hard and touches of quality, bags of energy but no-one to create with after the subs

N'Guessan 6 - Looked dangerous in first half. Sacrificed in second sadly.

Fryatt 6 - Struggled to get any ball, often coming back to get it from MF. Great work to set up sitter missed by Gallagher

Waghorn 7 - Did well despite being beaten up by their number 3 thug

Subs:

Howard 5 - Struggled as balls from back went to right and Waghorn can't head well

Gallagher 5 - off the pace today. Missed a sitter

McGivern 4 - Woeful.

Pearson 5 - Unlucky with injuries. I'd have left Bruno at left back and put Kermogant into midfield instead

Referee 4 - failed to deal with the cheating from Wba centre backs and missed a second half penalty for us

Am i the only one who thought Waghorn was amazing at times and showed Premier League class, with his skill, speed, effort and passes. 7.5 for him.

Everyone else are 5-6s, all round poor home performance again.

I thought we were okay all round the park. a 6 out of 10 performance. WBA just had a little bit more class. The back five of both teams was similar. So were the attacks for the most part. I barely noticed Cox. Dorrans and Thomas were the difference. Super player Dorrans. Busy, creative and full of energy. Destined to grace stadia beyond the Hawthorns.

We're clearly a very decent team. We're perhaps two pieces of quality short of being a top four team. How we find a quality centre mid or right mid who brings us more than we have already is anyone's guess though. I wouldn't be surprised if Nige and his team pull another ace out of the pack though come January.

Weale 6 - Dunno what he was doing for that long ranger, think he got put offf by the swerve. Did make some good saves in the 2nd half.

Neilson 6 - Good defensively, gets too far forward all the time!

Hobbs 6 - Won most headers as usual, dont think him and Brown were solely responsible for either goal.

Brown 6 - Not bad at all, similar to Hobbs. Glad he was captain following Oakley's departure.

Berner 6 - Nothing wrong but better at LB rather than CM.

Oakley 5 - Him and Nielson couldnt deal with them down that side, then went off.

King 6 - Did a lot of cleaning up in the middle but when he went off we looked vulnerable.

Wellens 3 - Very, very poor. And hasnt been great since September IMO.

N'Guessan 6 - Wanted to see him on the right to help Neilson, dont know why he went off.

Waghorn 6 - His game went downhill when he went on the right and had all the long balls up to him.

Fryatt 5 - Did just about fook all.

subs:

Gallagher 5 - Good free kick, but how did he misss that chance?!?

McGivern 4 - Worries me a lot.

Howard 5 - We brought him on for the winger then when we do play long ball they all got Waghorn!?! Tried hard though.

Thought Meite had him in his back pocket in the first half, then had no chance with all the long balls to him in the second half. I personally thought Fryatt was the better of the two with the ball at their feet.

Everyone was poor yesterday. We gave them too much space, sat back and watched them play their passing game. We bottled it imo. Bought back down to earth with a bang after such an outstanding performance against QPR.

Even at full strength we bottled it, 8 men deployed defensively leaving Waghorn and Fryatt isolated, no hussle, no pressing and very little football.

WBA were not that good, but why were we so awful?

we weren't poor yesterday. we were beaten by a good side, but only just. Anyone saying anything different is over reacting.
