Samilktray Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 J Cole is another hip hop artist who could do good things this year, aslong as he can get away from Jay-Z and Roc Nation that is.
StanSP Posted 8 January 2010 Author Posted 8 January 2010 J Cole is another hip hop artist who could do good things this year, aslong as he can get away from Jay-Z and Roc Nation that is. How come? Is this having a negative effect on him?
Samilktray Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 How come? Is this having a negative effect on him? His track record for bringing through new Hip-Hop artists and them sustaining a half decent career is poor, and Roc Nation doesnt seem like a label thats gonna be focusing on Hip Hop. He may be different with J Cole but I doubt it.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 I've actually heard of J Cole. Ruddy hell.
MC Prussian Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON One week, ONE WEEK TO GO.
purpleronnie Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 This Delphic album is a bit special isn't it. Nope, I never liked new order that much but these fools dont even come close to them. Pretentious nonesense. Better stuff out there.
Samilktray Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 I've actually heard of J Cole.Ruddy hell. He had a lot of exposure from being on Blueprint 3, and he was on Wales album where he completely slaughtered everyone on that album on Beautiful Bliss, listen to his mixtape 'The Warm Up' if you wanna hear more, 1 of the best of last year.
James. Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 Nope, I never liked new order that much but these fools dont even come close to them.Pretentious nonesense. Better stuff out there. The good thing about you purpleronnie is that if you say something is shit it more than likely means it's pretty bloody good. I've discovered some excellent music using this simple rule. Keep up the good work.

I never heard anything off Blueprint 3 and I'm not really a Wale fan. Think last.fm threw him at me.

BTW having just read the mirror's review of the Delphic album I'm not alone in dismissing it as tripe. I hear westlife are coming out with a new album, I'll hate it, pre order on amazon now.

Edmund Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 Purple don't take it personally. I just happened to find that comment funny. That is all. It's just good music banter

That's somewhat fanciful. This debut illustrates they can surely negotiate dancefloor palpitations, but the elongated workouts suggest a thinness of material no amount of arthouse pretension can hide.

None of his songs have ever connected with me even though I love hip hop. As for Delphic I'm not too fussed if they're over hyped or pretentious or whatever (and I especially don't give a fuck what The Mirror says ). When that first tune on the album kicks in it sends a shiver down my spine and I get goosebumps. That's why I love music.

You may have just opened a massive can of worms but I totally agree. I've tried and tried to listen to it and find something to like about it but I just can't. Like you I love hip hop and have done since the day I bought my first Ice Cube, Kriss Kross and Naughty By Nature Albums when I was 5 or so To me hip hop is about soul and find a lot of modern stuff lacks that and is made with only financial gain in mind.

Never!! Money is the least of these hip-hop artists' minds. It's all about the delivery of lyrical ingenuity and world-wide performances in front of millions of fans

The Mirror Delphic Acolyte Review 0/5 Never trust tabloid music reviews containing three simple sentences. It shows a lack of reviewer's interest. It also acts as an insult to every sane reader.
MC Prussian Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 On a lighter note, here's another early 2010 gem: Vancouver-based Nick Krgovich and Colin Stewart take the songwriter and producer's role respectively to deliver a delightful, cheerful trip back to the 60ies, featuring a plethora of collaborators, ranging from piano players, trumpeteers and a fair share of female vocalists.

StanSP Posted 8 January 2010 Author Posted 8 January 2010 I read BBC's review/interview with Delphic and they seemed to like it.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 I never read a review of an album as like most things everyone has a different opinion.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 Delphic album is actually dead good, title track is gorgeous. Can't get enough of the title track. Start to finish is just gold.
Samilktray Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 Apparently theres a new Gorillaz album due this year?
