CosbehFox Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 I read BBC's review/interview with Delphic and they seemed to like it. I like it a lot. Doubt and Red Lights for me are the best songs but I have still not chance to have a through full listen.
MC Prussian Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Field Music are due to release a new album this year: And you might also want to check out Jesca Hoop's "Hunting My Dress":

Productions mainly handled by Marley but 9th Wonder also has a role in production and guest appearances from Stevie Wonder and Erykah Badu should be class.

Head Honcho Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 My pleasure, I would love to know some examples Kanye west perhaps?BTW having just read the mirror's review of the Delphic album I'm not alone in dismissing it as tripe. I hear westlife are coming out with a new album, I'll hate it, pre order on amazon now. The mirror
MC Prussian Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 The mirror The UK's expert on everything, particularely (alternative) music.
Jonezy Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 New Vampire Weekend is great. I don't like the single, but the rest of the album is great if you are into a different more african flavour of indie rock/pop.
Joe. Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Listened to Soft Pack's album Jay. Short, sweet and catchy - I like it.
Jay Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Listened to Soft Pack's album Jay. Short, sweet and catchy - I like it. glad you liked the sound of them. I think they are really on to something as you say short, sweet, catchy songs with a bit of an edge songs like c'mon, Bright Side, Parasites and answer to yourself are just brilliant. A little bit of the strokes a little bit old school hardcore just sounds really fresh and a bit different got tickets to see them at Bodega social in Feb, which is really small so looking forward to that. They are playing someplace called Freebutt in Brighton as well (I'm sure a joke can be found somewhere) probably only at £7.50 a ticket
James. Posted 23 January 2010 Posted 23 January 2010 In a further boost to your musical ego Jay I listened to the Black Roc album and thought it was quality. Some slightly duff tracks but the good tracks were amazing.
purpleronnie Posted 23 January 2010 Posted 23 January 2010 The UK's expert on everything, particularely (alternative) music. Review was by Gavin Martin who wrote for the NME and has been a music critic for over 30 years. Yep I'm sure he knows nothing. Moron.
MC Prussian Posted 23 January 2010 Posted 23 January 2010 Review was by Gavin Martin who wrote for the NME and has been a music critic for over 30 years.Yep I'm sure he knows nothing. Moron. Maybe it's time for that Moron to retire. I don't know what 30 years of being a music critic have to do with writing a silly and three-sentence short review of a band whose style he obviously absolutely hates: Claims are being made that this Manchester outfit are New Order's heirs apparent. That's somewhat fanciful. This debut illustrates they can surely negotiate dancefloor palpitations, but the elongated workouts suggest a thinness of material no amount of arthouse pretension can hide. If you can't get into the material or don't want to, be fair enough and give it a pass. For example, I don't rate current Heavy Metal, Rap/HipHop or Techno stuff, because I already know that I wouldn't like the majority of it. Let the listener make up his mind. But don't rate it just because you ought to. Reminds me of how PopMatters recently dealt with Kasabian's "West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum".

Some slightly duff tracks but the good tracks were amazing. considering it was arranged and made by a couple beardie blues musicians in the black keys it isn't a bad effort to be honest

You were the one criticizing the mirror for not being an expert on alternative music, if someone who's been reviewing music since the punk days doesnt know a little then I dont know who's views you would respect?. He's a critic he can't 'pass', his job is to give his opinion.

I don't need the thoughts of some music critic regardless of who he works for or how long he's been in the job to tell me what I should and shouldn't listen to, I'm old enough and wise enough to have my own opinion on what I like and don't like. something isn't rubbish because a journalist says it is, just as something isn't brilliant because they rave about it regardless of who they are their opinion may well be different to mine
Flynny Posted 23 January 2010 Posted 23 January 2010 Reminds me of how PopMatters recently dealt with Kasabian's "West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum". See I don't agree with that review but I can get what it's saying. The best reviewing is written so that you know why you might disagree just reading it. If you've never thought Kasabian were hollow and overly bombastic before then there's no reason reading that review why you should not go and get the album, whereas if you've not been sure of them in the past then you know it's not going to convert you. And as much as I like that album, there is some superfluous stuff and the woman reading the nonsense lines IS sub-70's-prog bollocks.

Granted, WRPLA isn't a masterpiece, but at least PopMatters dared to dig deeper and examine the album properly - compared to the three-sentence Mirror shite on Delphic.
MC Prussian Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 Dance/electronic aficionados might want to check out this new beauty:
Lillehamring Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 this year for me is all about The Soft Pack!!possibly my new favourite band sound like mcfly to me
Lillehamring Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 On a lighter note, here's another early 2010 gem: Vancouver-based Nick Krgovich and Colin Stewart take the songwriter and producer's role respectively to deliver a delightful, cheerful trip back to the 60ies, featuring a plethora of collaborators, ranging from piano players, trumpeteers and a fair share of female vocalists. interesting set up, definitely a bit of a throwback... nice, but the songwriting isn't as strong as i'd hoped - they remind me a bit of the heavy blinkers, actually, what is it about canada? might be one for the spotifier though cheers
