StanSP Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 If he did go back and there was no way of keeping him here, would we want another loan replacement, or spend money on a permanent one?
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 If he did go back and there was no way of keeping him here, would we want another loan replacement, or spend money on a permanent one? I would imagine that a permanent signing will only happen if we can offload DJ Campbell in the transfer window, otherwise it will be what we have or another loan.
lou Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 This is a classic case of a club trying to put the frighteners on us enough to put in a decent offer for him in Jan. If they acted like they didnt need him were less likely to offer them as much. (I hope thats what theyre doing anyway ) Shame if they do nab him back though - I love him
Corky Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 I really hope we can extend the deal- he's been a revelation for us.
Cobbo Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 He's done great as a sub and now offers us the new diamond formation in a front pair with Fryatt. Would be sad to lose him but we can buy/loan another player if the worst happens. Lest we forget that Gallagher could do a good jub up front with Fryatt with Kermo just behind. And we still have Steeeeeeve
milan_foxes Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Sign him up defo, top player with a good attitude.
Jimmy Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 David Healy on a permanent deal wouldn't be a bad fall back
Edmund Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Lest we forget that Gallagher could do a good jub up front with Fryatt with Kermo just behind. I agree, Waghorn's been fantastic for us but I think we've a great replacement in Gallagher should Waghorn leave. Not really been given much opportunity as a striker but we've all seen he has the potential. Maybe it means we could start using our wingers (Lloyd, Danny, Max, Nicky) and playing players in their strongest positions.

I don't Gallagher and Fryatt are too similar, its 1 or the other of them for me, if Waggy is recalled by Bruce then Kermit + 1 is the way I'd go
J.Lisemore Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 I think Waghorn will sign permanantly. You can tell he loves it here and i doubt he'll get much of a look in at Sunderland.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Ain't too worried, I agree that Bruce has only really said this to try and 'Bump' the price up, and he can't be too desperate, as he would be happy for waggy to stay with us till the end of the season.
AjcW Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 For the most stalkerish post this year.... Waggy and rather tidy gf are currently in banatynes gym together... Needless to say he's doing fook all and she's running like crazy . I really hope he stays.

Kilworthfox Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 From the MercSunderland boss Steve Bruce wants striker Martyn Waghorn back in January, according to reports in the north east. Bruce has been impressed with the performances of Waghorn, who is on loan at Leicester City from the Black Cats until January, and may decide he is ready to be included in his Premier League squad. Sources in Sunderland say Bruce is set to off-load David Healy, Roy O'Donovan and Daryl Murphy during the transfer window. And he believes Waghorn is ready to provide competition for his in-favour strikers Darren Bent, Kenwyne Jones and Fraizer Campbell. Sunderland have had all of Waghorn's games for City watched and Bruce has been impressed with the way the 19-year-old has forced his way into Nigel Pearson's starting line-up ahead of the likes of Steve Howard and DJ Campbell. If Bruce does decide to bring Waghorn back to his native north east it will be a major blow to City boss Pearson, who is hoping to extend Waghorn's loan period until the end of the season. Waghorn has scored four goals in five starts and 12 substitute appearances, and has repeatedly stated he is enjoying his stay with City. He has admitted he would be happy to remain with City until the end of the season if the two clubs can agree. However, if the reports are correct, it looks as though his time with City could soon be up. The thing I like about this article is that there is not 1 quote from Bruce.
Finnegan Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 I don't mean this to sound disrespectful to the boy, who's obviously adored here, but surely he's not exactly ready to light the Prem on fire. It's not like he's knocking them in every game, left right and center. You would have thought it would be better for his developement to train and play every week here than it would be to be relatively ignored and get the odd sub appearance at Sunderland.
Koke Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 The thing I like about this article is that there is not 1 quote from Bruce. Aye, I was about to say that as well. It's just a lots of *ifs* and *maybes*, not one single quote from Steve Bruce.

He'll even be behind Campbell in the pecking order, and will barely make the bench. I can't see one logical reason why Sunderland would not extend his loan here. Not one.
maddog Posted 2 December 2009 Posted 2 December 2009 IF Bruce does sell off those players though and then star man Bent gets injured all of a sudden their not as strong. Campbell hasn't made an impact at Sunderland, i would put Waghorn on par with him at the moment, plus PL teams wouldn't know too much about Waghorn if he was suddenly recalled and played. But Jones is having a great season so far aswell, so unless theres injuries then Sunderland are fine. Theres a lot of ifs and buts here though, i'm pretty sure Waghorn will be here on loan for the rest of the season at least, and i would swap Fryatt for him right now.
