Chrysalis Posted 14 December 2009 Posted 14 December 2009 sorry but goals arent easy to come by so I disagree. you cant just stick anyone in his place and say a run in the team gives goals, howard is a classic example of that.
CosbehFox Posted 14 December 2009 Posted 14 December 2009 He's our only striker who has the ability to run off the shoulder of a defender with enough intelligence to make it problematic. It's this ability which is handy for us on the break. Waghorn likes it short, Howard wants it on his bonce, Gallacher wants to flick it, Yann short/bonce.
marbelladave Posted 14 December 2009 Posted 14 December 2009 The issue with Fryatt is that he is one dimensional. By that I mean he is a goal scorer pure and simple, he rarely gets involved in build up play and hardly ever makes chances for his team mates. His two assists at the weekend were exceptional! Unfortunately if he does not score or get decent service his head goes down and he drifts out of the game, this has been happening quite a lot recently and for us it is like playing with ten men! That said he is comfortably our most accomplished goal scorer, so it is almost impossible to leave him out... :dunno:
Ford Super Sunday Posted 14 December 2009 Posted 14 December 2009 Bring back Cottee, Heskey, Deane, Dickov, Bent, Connolly, Marshall, Claridge And what the hell, throw in Worthington too. I mean all could do a much better job than '10 goals and 4 assists' Fryatt ... that's just a pathetic record...

Fryatt does some of his best work for the team dropping off the defenders, holding the ball, and pushing it wide. Does it 5-10 times a game. The ball sticks up front when he plays just as much because of him as whichever target man we play along side him. Also, 4 assists is actually a lot. How many City players have got more than that this season? 3?

Not trying to make a fight of it, but for me he barely gets involved in the buildup and rarely, if ever creates anything for his strike partner. Two assists in what, 18 starts, before last weekend? Even our keeper can manage that! Against Wednesday he was more involved and more of a team player than I have seen for some time, maybe being dropped to the bench woke him up a bit? Also, for what it is worth I feel the Fryatt / Waghorn partnership is just awful, doesn't work for me at all and as for their ball retention, it is non-existent. Actually I rate both players, just not together!
z-layrex Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 Maybe he's human and sometimes has stuff on his mind that's bothering him? We all have days where we good at our jobs, and days where we suck.

I said a while ago that we'll be better off without Waghorn for that reason. I am kind of surprised we haven't tried Waggy wide left. Fast, skillful and a good crosser.
MC Prussian Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 You can complain about Fryatt like you can complain about every other striker. I doubt the other five top teams in the Championship are all too satisfied with their striking force on a regular basis, either. Every player goes through rough patches and you simply cannot expect a guy like Fryatt to score in every single match (although I admit that would be quite a spectacular sight ). Look, this is the second-best league in England, with attendances on par with the Bundesliga and a total team value comparable to the Portuguese SuperLiga. This is no shit league just because it isn't the Premiership. Competition on this level is tough and apart from a few teams at the bottom, this year proves that almost everyone is/can be in the mix for promotion/a playoff spot. As of now, we got the Championship's fourth-best goalscorer and he didn't cost the club even half a million quid in 2005 - now compare that to the names of the other league's top goalscorers and what they cost... (Talking about value for money)! People slagging Fryatt off for being not good enough need to realize that he's still only 23 years old and has/should have his best years yet to come. He was 19 when he joined us and thrown straight into the life of a Championship striker. His goalscoring record has already improved considerably - whether it is thanks to a personal learning curve or thanks to the team can be debated. The truth lies somewhere in the middle, I guess. I agree that it can be frustrating to watch him play and he may need special attention from the manager, as in the instances where I've seen Leicester at the Walkers, he usually wasn't that much involved and active, rather waiting to be fed by the midfield. BUT - and that's a big but - his performance against Wednesday (two assists) could a glimpse that he's evolving into a very good all-around striker and I'm sure Pearson keeps a good eye on the lad's efforts.
Bluefoxtim Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 Ur post is a joke, Fryatt scored the goals to put us in the championship and none of the players you have mentioned could or would have scored the goals if put in his place! campbell shouldnt be a leicester still anyway hardly got a great record infact it`s awful and still people rate him, hayles I won`t even waste my time talking about him! chambers is too young and still developing and dickov , well he needs a walking stick let alone play football. Take that back. I still love you Baz.
marbelladave Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 Who's complaining? Just discussing Fryatts strong and weak points. His goalscoring is exemplary at this level, the figures say it all. Assuming he starts then his strength and weaknesses need to be taken into account. We have already said that he does not work well with Waghorn and generally speaking is no use as a lone striker. His inclusion virtually forces us to play 4-4-2 with a big man alongside him which is what happened against Wednesday. Although he clearly is very comfortable alongside Howard it is time for a change in this department, we need to start Yanni up front in a run of games.
The Doctor Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 Take that back. I still love you Baz. he's still a free agent. I say we bring him back.
CosbehFox Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 he's still a free agent. I say we bring him back. He's playing for Cheltenham...
Koke Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 Fryatt will end up with 16-18 goals this season, and I'm not quite sure what more to expect from the lad? Unless your name is Fernando Torres, you're not gonna score every half-chance you get. I think people expect a bit too much from Fryatt. To say playing with Fryatt in the side is sometimes like playing with 10 men is not only ludicrous, but also quite frankly insulting to the bloke. There are many other players in our side who are much bigger passengers than Fryatt.
Guest Bilo Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 I had to have an enigma once. Bloody cheese bunged me right up.

Sly Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 I'll admit I doubted Fryatt's abilities but he has proved me wrong. Yes he may not be lighting quick but if you watch back the highlights of last season and so far this season on DavieG's website you can see what a good, technically sound player Fryatt actually is. Yes, we might get frustrated with the chances he misses but we're fans, every fan of every football club in the country gets frustracted with their strikers as they'll all miss chances which they might have scored in a previous game. That's life!! Fryatt isn't a Batistuta, a Ronaldo, a Sheringham .... he's better Joking aside though, may I be the first person to hold my hand up and state, Fryatt, I'm sorry I doubted you and thanks for the effort you've put in over the past couple of seasons. May your Leicester career continue and hopefully we'll see you playing for us, scoring goals in the Premiership.
The Doctor Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 He's playing for Cheltenham... thought he'd been released.
demon_dog Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Haven't posted a great deal lately, just been sitting back waiting to see what people are saying. Felt I just had to say that I feel that Fryatt cost us a win on Saturday against Newcastle. Having just watched the highlights (cheers Davie ). His first shot on goal was straight at the keeper, either side and it would have been in. His second attempt following his blinding run into the box was as we know knocked away, however one can clearly see one of our players (Waghorn?) completely unmarked the opposite side of goal. Had Fryatt passed it could have been a simple tap in. I have long been a critic of Fryatt, I DO recognise the impact he has on a game, he can control the ball quite well, is willing and able to confuse defenders. Unfortunately he does lack pace and tends to be greedy in front of goal. I have stated in the past and will do so again. When are we going to buy a decent striker? The season we were relegated, we went down for lack of scoring goals, despite having one of the best defensive records in the league. Yet again I find our goals scored column woefully lacking. Nothing as such has changed, until the management realise this, I feel that as a club we are going nowhere. So while remaing a critic, At the moment I have to say thank god we have Fryatt, no one else seems to be scoring goals. Now the transfer window has closed we are stuck with what we have until the Summer.
davieG Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Whether you rate Fryatt or not he's not the reason for our lack of goals. Compared to other strikers in this league he's 3rd equals with 11 - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...ers/default.stm The problem is 2 fold, our style of play isn't creative enough, so it's down to individuals like Fryatt to create their own and he's probably the best we've got for that and secondly the rest of the team in particular forwards and midfielders as well as the CBs aren't scoring enough/any. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ats/default.stm With Oakley, Wellens, Kermorgant, Brown not having scored.
JadeFalcon Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 i am usually the one to slate fryatt but during the newcastle match he played the best i have seen him play in a long long time, he still cant shoot for shit tho. i was saying this to haraven in the foxes chat in the previous game to the newcastle one, when fryatt came on as sub, i said all he does it kick it straight at the keeper and hope it goes in, and what does he do not 2 minutes later shot straight into keepers arms, and then later the same damned thing. plus the times i have seen him on televised matches pull the same shots when its clear that either a chip over or bend the ball slightly round the keeper and it would easily be in the back of the net, but no blam straight at the keeper the boy needs fooking shooting training cause he cannot bend a ball, take lessons from the newcastle player that had the bending shot and made our keeper tip it wide. please dont get me wrong i dont hate fryatt, i wouldnt try to hate any player in our team as i always want them to win but fooking hell fryatt learn to shoot with some skill, or pass the ball off to somebody thats in a better position to do this

Or controlling a volley perfectly like this? The guy is class, I don't know why it is in doubt. The only thing I feel I can criticise him on is his decision making, he needs to know when to pass sometimes.
