Matt Posted 17 January 2010 Posted 17 January 2010 Wow, Even if he loses (Hope i'm not tempting fate) Selby deserve a huge amount of credit for turning this round. C'mon Mark

davieG Posted 18 January 2010 Posted 18 January 2010 From the Merc Leicester's Mark Selby staged a stunning fightback to beat Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-9 in the Masters Final at Wembley. Selby looked booked for defeat when he trailed 9-6. But, amid mounting tension, he reeled off four frames in succession to win the £150,000 prize. This is Selby's second victory in the event in three seasons. For much of a high-quality contest, it seemed that O'Sullivan would prevail. He raced into a 4-1 lead and took the first session 5-3. The two players continued to trade frames in the evening session. O'Sullivan threatened to take charge when he led 6-4 and 7-5 but each time Selby hit back to take the next frame. However, when O'Sullivan moved 8-6 ahead, Selby was unable to reply. He played a below-par safety shot and an 89 clearance put the Rocket within one frame of victory. Selby looked to be on the way out in the 16th frame when O'Sullivan built up a break of 25. But his run broke down and a break of 62 allowed Selby to win the frame and stay in the match. The 17th frame was a protracted affair with Selby emerging victorious after a long spell of safety spell. That set him up for a break of 109 which allowed him to cut O'Sullivan's advantage to 9-8. The penultimate frame was an astonishing affair. Selby was snookered twice and O'Sullivan looked to be on the way to victory. But he missed an attempted pot of the yellow and then the green and that allowed Selby the opportunity to level the match at 9-9. Selby was in control for most of the final frame with breaks of 27 and 37 and O'Sullivan eventually conceded.
lildave3 Posted 18 January 2010 Posted 18 January 2010 I lay down to watch this and fell asleep after a couple of frames, was gutted Watched the last frame on BBC Sport though. Chuffed for Selby, pretty incredible the way he did it aswell.
Corky Posted 18 January 2010 Posted 18 January 2010 Selby was superb, really top class snooker played by both players. A shame really that one had to lose.
Ultra Posted 18 January 2010 Posted 18 January 2010 Wow, Selby shows he is one of the world's best!Amazing comeback, Deserved it for the comeback he made! Quality stuff, Truly stunning. Guess we'll be seeing Mark at the Walkers sometime soon ...along with at least one trophy.. Hope Selby can take this form into the World Championships. Some of his defeats in recent ranking tournaments have been embarassing for someone of his talent.
Head Honcho Posted 18 January 2010 Posted 18 January 2010 Are we supposed to find the term "Jester From Leicester" endearing?
David Guiza Posted 18 January 2010 Posted 18 January 2010 Last few frames last night were brilliant. Ronnie didn't get a real chance last 4 frames which shows how well Selby played.
Samilktray Posted 18 January 2010 Posted 18 January 2010 Are we supposed to find the term "Jester From Leicester" endearing? I dont really understand where its come from?
Matt Posted 18 January 2010 Posted 18 January 2010 I dont really understand where its come from? I just seem to make people laugh. I used to have a laugh and a joke with the compere, Richard Beare, and he gave me the nickname the Jester from Leicester. http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008/apr/1...kerchampionship
StanSP Posted 18 January 2010 Posted 18 January 2010 Pretty shit nickname compared to Rocket himself, and Whirlwind for Jimmy White etc...
maddog Posted 18 January 2010 Posted 18 January 2010 Pretty shit nickname compared to Rocket himself, and Whirlwind for Jimmy White etc... I think it's a great nickname. Anyone who saw the Selby-Allen game will see what a jester he is, they had a well friendly game and were both laughing for some of it.
ob1kanobe0 Posted 18 January 2010 Posted 18 January 2010 What an amazing finish last night, im delighted with Mark Selby, to come back from 9-6 down to win against that pi$$ taking smarmy ex-muslim O'sullivan was a real delight to see. So we'll see Mark parading his trophy at the Newcastle game.
