Webbo Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 We're thinking of going on holiday to Cornwall this year, partly to save a bit of money, partly because I'm 44 and I've never been before. Which are the best resorts and what is there to do when we get there?
Unabomber Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 Watergate bay is a really nice place to go, its very small and peaceful and there are some good offers there currently Watergate bay I would also go to Padstow and St Ives.
StanSP Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 Penzance is another popular place to visit. Haven't been there in ages.
MikeyT Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 Padstow is a lovely place. Used to go there almost every year and its not far from places like Newquay. Highly recommend there.
suffolk fox Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 Don't go to Newquay in August! Stayed in a campsite three miles from the place joined a queue of traffic each morning to get into the place! Nowhere to park, then when you did very expensive! Joined the same queue of traffic on the way back to the campsite in the evening!!! Bloody nightmare! Never been back never will!
Daggers Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 We're thinking of going on holiday to Cornwall this year, partly to save a bit of money, partly because I'm 44 and I've never been before.Which are the best resorts and what is there to do when we get there? Hotel, B&B, caravanning, camping or living off the land and eating what you kill?
Webbo Posted 26 January 2010 Author Posted 26 January 2010 Hotel, B&B, caravanning, camping or living off the land and eating what you kill? Probably a static caravan but I'm open to suggestions. Mid July onward.
AoWW Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 If you're heading down south, St Mawes is lovely. Trebah gardens are beautiful too, and have a gorgeous, secluded sandy cove. The Pandora Inn at Restronguet Creek Linky is fab and in a great setting for watching the comings and goings on the river. Oh, and if you're down that way you might as well take a trip across the King Harry Ferry just for the (rather gentile) craic.
Phube Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 Kynance Cove - One of the nicest coves there... but a bit of a trek.... Lands-end Ignore tis CRAP!!!
Daggers Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 Probably a static caravan but I'm open to suggestions. Mid July onward. Trewen Hall for caravans and tents
Part Of The Crowd Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 Cornish Horizons Take your pick from there, I recommend the house Driftwood in Little Petherick.
Zingari Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 went about 30 years ago to padstow and never felt the slightest desire to go back .. from what i remember the highlight of the holiday was a trip on a boat from the harbour to go and see an island full of puffins or something . oh yes and some mad woman that used to live in a house overlooking the harbour used to hang out of the window shouting obscenities at the tourists , the company was good though

I've been there heaps during the 90's and loved it everytime.

Daggers Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 But... but... Rick Stein... Rick Stein is a twat. Him, his restaurant and every 2nd-home-owning banker making sure no local can afford to live and raise a family anywhere near the place.
MikeyT Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 maybe it's because i really wanted to go to ibiza Haha fair do's!

Webbo Posted 27 January 2010 Author Posted 27 January 2010 I was thinking the north coast so that I could body board , but all the attractions seem to be near the south coast.
Jon the Hat Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 I was thinking the north coast so that I could body board , but all the attractions seem to be near the south coast. Don't worry - if you go far enough West the north and south coast is not very far apart I love Cornwall. My Favourite places are: Cape Cornwall (just north of Lands end and withouth the touristy crap) Mousehole - really good restaurant called "2 Fore Street" I will let you guess the adress. The Lizard - southernmost point of the UK. Kynance Cove on the Western side of the Lizard is stunning - get their early and spend the day becuase it changes so much you will miss something otherwise. St Ives is worth a wander and for some Fish and Chips on the Beach.

My mum lives St Keverne near to Those places, and like you say, it's stunning down there. Portlleven (sp) also not far from those areas has the best fish 'n' chips I've ever tasted.
martyn Posted 29 January 2010 Posted 29 January 2010 We always stayed in Perranporth when I was younger. Lovely little place on the beach.
