A Palace mate sent me this, it's from someone on their forum that went to the match yesterday.

I am afraid that football hooliganism is still there, tragically. I was watching Blackpool Leicester today and the Leicester fans set off some sort of flare or smoke bomb in their area. In view of the awful events in Bradford all thosel years ago, I hope this is a once off because no one deserves to die at a football match.

Love it.

All these over reactions are stupid, it's really not that dangerous. Let's face it it's far less dangerous than say walking to the ground, what next every single fan escorted to the ground in armored vehicle's. Heck why not hold every game behind closed doors. Fair play to whoever had the guts to do it and i hope they didn't get in trouble.

The problem is this.

We live in a H&S gone mad society - so much so that despite the fact that the grounds are now made of much safer material than the dry wooden structures from the Bradford City Disaster era, we still are not allowed to have flares like this.

But to compound this, football in this country STILL has absolute tossers turning up for games, who cause hassle, hurl ugly abuse at players and fans and fight. Rugby fans are far better behaved and as anyone who has been to a rugby match will confirm, they can still make a hell of an atmosphere. I defy ANYONE not to have goosebumps when they hear the likes of Swing Low or Land of my Fathers echo around a ground (the WHOLE ground remember, the fans are not segregated). Thus, they are allowed to drink in view of the pitch and mix with other fans. We tend to have pubescent arse holes who don't know how to behave themselves in public.

If we had a better behaved culture among our fans, we wouldn't have to have police escorts, searches and the other things that can ruin a good day out. And maybe, just maybe we would be able to have flares without the ground H&S officer wondering how long it's going to be before one gets thrown at a multi-million pound footballer.

We have the best behaved fans in the world IMO just look at the arrests made, barely any despite the premiership having around the highest attendances in the world.

Of course your going to have the odd idiot but why punish the 99.99% well behaved fans?

Its one thing to have health and safety its another to enforce those rules with no common sense.

The atmosphere at rugby matches is in general fvcking shit and you know it. If football fans behaved like rugby fans I would have stopped going years ago.

http://blackpool.vitalfootball.co.uk/forum...-view.asp?fid=2 seems to be the most active, but they prefer to make a new thread for every little thought that pops into their heads, so it's a bit of a mess.

The AVFTT Seasiders Chat is busier than that. Can't be fvcked to find the exact address.

Which part of 2 do you seriously doubt.

Goats and pigs are ritually sacrificed in Turkey before the start of a new season.

In Italy a scooter was thrown towards the pitch in an Inter v Atalanta game, look it up.

This is not the point anyway, the flare was just shit.

well at least on the opening day you know the bacon in your bacon sarnie is fresh.

And? Do you really think the stewards in this country are poor enough to fail to prevent people taking a scooter into the stands?

I disagree - you don't get booing at rugby matches, it is way more positive than that, and I don't know what rugby matches you've been to but the ones I've been to beat a bad day at the Walkers any day, hands down. Oh, and they didn't have goal music to 'help' the fans either...

I like a great atmosphere at a game, I just don't think you have to be attacking the opposition fans to get that atmosphere...

Sounds like Rugby's the sport for you then doesnt it?

Setting off a flare is most certainly not attacking opposition fans, nor are flags, nor are jumping up and down and singing songs. Ridiculous notion.

If rugby is that much better, leave football well alone and stay in rugby.

Honestly, I swear to God most football fans are absolutely petrified of anything new, inventive and different. It's absolutely fucking pathetic. Moan, moan, bastard moan (yes, yes I do get the irony of this post before anybody starts).

Damned if you don't try to make a difference and change things, damned if you do. People can't fucking win at times.

Can't wait for the trip to Germany late April / early May.

it's that or a panto villian E.g. the ref, one of their players etc. , In games like that the atmosphere is terrific and even when it's just an average game the atmosphere is still better at football than at rugby.

The Rugby fans are just so boring, unimaginative and polite.

They only ever seem to have one chant in which they just say the name of their club really slowly and they'll never actually create any other chants or give the panto villain a deserved earful... they just sit/stand there.

Loved it when they mentioned the flare on the radio! I hope that you lot get some more going soon, would be good to see a few more all at the same time. I notice they didn't show it on the highlights, very disappointing.

Would of been excellent under the roof in the Kop at Filbert Street on a night match :D

Was absolutely quality. Replayed the whole thing in my mind over and over and over again on the way home today, for pretty much six hours. Couldn't stop smiling. :D

Great work from whoever was filming it too.

Seems these things are in the increase probably after seeing the Manchester derby. Heard about a few smoke's being let off lower down the leagues too. I like it, bit of colour, bit different.

When I went to the Stevenage-Cambridge Conference playoff semi a Cambridge fan set off a yellow one. He's now currently serving a three year ban. Pathetic.

Right then, next up - Tifo?

I was pretty happy with my Manchester Students Union Dubstep Night poster being held up until it got ripped to pieces. :(

I disagree, alot of football fans nowadays, especially the modern day football fan loves something new...As long as it makes the game and atmosphere more Americanised.

When I watched the rugby this afternoon they played Chelsea Dagger when Scotland scored a penalty.

Never been to a bundesliga match but went Aussie vs Japan in the World cup in Kaiserslauten and sat next to a german fella who loved his football and was trying to get the atmosphere going where we were mainly with the Aussie fans, as soon as he knew i was a City fan all he wanted to talk about was Stefan Freund !! Met a fair few like him too, excellent football nation is Germany

The flare looked great from behind. Would someone embed youtube video on here please?

Hope there are more flares to come in future away games.

Went to the York - Stevenage FA Trophy final last year and York fans let off about 4. Looked great in Wembley!
