Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric expects manager Nigel Pearson to sign a new contract by the end of March.

Pearson signed a two-year deal in June 2008 with an option for a third season.

And Mandaric told BBC Radio Leicester: "I am always confident Nigel will not leave. As for as the legality of the deal, we are working on that as well.

"And before the season is finished - well before the season is finished; I'd say the next 30 days or so - we will sort it out."

Pearson, 46, led the club back into the Championship as champions of League One in his first season as boss.

And the Foxes have enjoyed a fine season so far, lying fifth following Saturday's 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Mandaric has often talked of his admiration for Pearson, whose side are now eight games unbeaten, and is desperate to see him remain at the the Walkers Stadium.

"He's here to stay at least as long as I'm here, so there is no problem with Nigel's contract," Mandaric added.

"We are in contact, we have dialogue - it is really a rolling contract so when the year is finished there is another year coming.

"We are trying to do something more but Nigel is not concerned - it is not an issue.

"He says: 'Milan, I look you in the eye - I'm going to go nowhere'.

"There is no concern whatsoever and I don't want anyone to worry about it."

What's up with Milan all of a sudden??

Keep rollin, rollin, rollin, rollin!

I trust that Nige is a man of his word and can't see currently why he'd want to go anywhere else. Get it done Milan

So when does this rolling contract expire, Rob Kelly style?

By the sounds of it we've got him until at least the end of next season and I'd be gobsmacked if he didn't sign a new deal.

Not particularly concerned, this contract issue hasn't overshadowed the performances on the pitch and I'm sure Nigel wants to stay here for a while yet.

Well someone's gonna post that in here eventually, so thought I might as well steal their thunder and humiliate any tiny-headed malcontent that might think of such idiocy!

I heard Mandaric is only doing this for personal gain. Apparently NP's wife makes a smashing carrot cake.

Nigel Pearson is ready to play hard ball with Milan Mandaric over a new deal at Leicester.

The Foxes boss guided Mandaric a step closer to a certain play-off spot despite squandering Andy King’s two first-half goals.

Mandaric is determined to be making long-term plans for his main man when he sits down with the former Saints boss’ representatives today.

But Pearson will be looking for assurances of a hefty budget for next season, should he succeed in guiding Leicester to a second successive promotion through the Champ-ionship play-offs.

After squandering two vital points, Pearson refused to shed any further light on his situation, saying: “There are a number of criteria that we are talking on.

“My representatives will be holding talks and my contract will depend on how those talks go, but I think it is best the assurances I am seeking are kept in house.

“I’m enjoying myself and it’s a club that has potential. It’s nice to feel there’s something to build on.â€

Unfortunately Leicester could not build on the two-goal lead King established in the opening 20 minutes.

His first came as a result of James McPake’s failure to clear, but the second was fortunate to be awarded by referee’s assistant Simon Beck, after his header appeared not to cross the line.

That was dubious as far as Chris Coleman could see, but there was nothing dubious about the half-time rollicking that transformed his side.

“We were pants in the first half and I told the players that,†said the Coventry boss. “I was not very complimentary.

“We did not have 11 players ready to work. They were not very happy with what I said and the performance in the second half was to spite me.

“That doesn’t matter. I got what I wanted out of them!â€

McPake atoned for his earlier mistake with a great finish from close range and Gary Deegan forced the ball home three minutes from time after Clinton Morrison’s cross.
