Andy King - Our most important player

Recommended Posts

Andy King is the one positive to come out of today.

He showed Oakley how to play. He passed the ball well, always regained possesion, broke down the play, made vital tackles and got into good attacking positions.

The game today suited his style of play very well and we MUST hold on to him in the summer whether we go up or not.

He is our Darren Fletcher.

The comparison to Fletcher is a fine one

Agree he is someone to hold on to but to say he is our most important player is overstating his importance. Berner, Hobbs, Fryatt?

To me he now needs to start imposing himself on games more. A lot of games you hardly notice he is on the pitch. Too many times he plays simple balls sideways or backwards. Ok we keep possesion but we never go anywhere with it. Today highlighted that we desperately need some attacking creativity for next season. We never looked like scoring despite some good possesion at times.

He's got that knack of getting goals though which is priceless. Hopefully he can improve again next season.

I don't like Darren Fletcher. I like Andy King though.

Agreed!

King has been great and consistent this season and has really stepped up to the next level. Could do with a bit more strength to complete his game but he is really heading in the right direction. Just hope we can hang on to him.

Yes, he's neat and tidy on the ball and makes good interceptions and tackles and his positional play is solid. He also has a good shot when he bothers to get in and around the area.

BUT - he plays too many sideways and backwards passes for my liking. He never takes the brave (and riskier) option of making a driving run with the ball to create openings for other players. Today we were crying out for one of our midfielders to drive at the Albion defence because they had plenty of space in front of them to run with the ball (which we saw from Dyer a couple of times in the first half), but instead Oakley, King and Wellens (to a lesser extent) kept playing the easier and simple sideways or backwards pass which got us nowhere.

I like Andy King, but we desperately need a midfielder who will inject a bit of drive and creativity into our side (like Cleverley/Davies last year) and create spaces for others. I'd love it if King started to do that instead of playing 'safe' every time.

King is a 'bits and pieces' player in the best possible sense, he is not a 'driving' midfield player and wishing he was will not make it so. In general our midfield is too samey, King, Wellens, Oakley and even Spearing are very similar players, what we really need is some variety.

I have been suggesting for some time that we play Gallagher in midfield alongside King and Wellens, he offers something different and needs to be more involved. He is the most creative player we have, we need to get him on the ball in meaningful positions!

How is King the only positive? Jack Hobbs is class, easily the player of the season if not just behind Bruno, if we don't go up he's gone.

King, Wellens, Hobbs and Berner are out most important players.

Andy King does a lot of things during the game that you rarely see. He mops up the midfield superbly, allowing Wellens to play some majestic balls.

He also gets into some good goalscoring opportunities and maybe should have tested the keeper with his shot, but all round, a quality player.

Wellens has been our most creative player lately.

I'm a fan of King, keeps it simple and never makes rash challenges.

King is more like Michael Carrick. Got the talent, can pick out a pass and more times than not goes with the safe option. Played well yesterday.

Wellens?!

He's been playing well again lately and he started the season very well indeed, other than that dip in form in the middle of the season I'd have to agree.

Interestingly I think King is, in the absence of Fryatt, our most 'natural' goal scorer.

He is currently the only player in the team who, given a half chance or better in the box, looks likely to score.

Waghorn and Gallagher look more dangerous from distance and neither react as well as King to the fleeting chances that occur around the 6 yard box.

Took King a while to get off the mark in terms of scoring but esepcially in 2010, he has looked dangerous everytime he goes forward.

Just like to see Wellens score, but both have been great lately.

Definately, Jack Hobbs has been so so good this season, the only game where he didn't perform to well that I can think of is sheff wed away, which noone really performed on that day, he should be in the champo team of the season!!

Amazing how differently we can perceive players when we have such limited information. Even listening every week Kingy just never seems to get a huge mention (i assume that he is on and off the ball very quickly and perhaps the commentaters miss him?) to discover he has scored 20 this year is a hell of a surprise.

Most important players this year for me...(in order of who id like to keep most)

Hobbs

Bruno

Gally

Fryatt

Waghorn

( King.. based on new information/recognition )

Wellens

Weale

McGivern... (we need someone to take all the blame and crap for every loss, although Oakley can also fill this role)

are you really that stupid that you think our league place is because of 2 player? Chris Weale wouldn't be having such a good season were it not for the form of the likes of Berner, Hobbs & Morrison.

Fryatt or Waghorn wouldn't of scored as many were it not for the likes of King, Wellens & Dyer
