WBA Player Ratings

Was just wondering what everyone thought of the players today. Say whether you were at the game or watched it on TV...

I was at the game and here's what i thought...

Weale 6.5 - Couple of decent saves, had no chance with the goals and his kicking was better haha

Neilson 6.5 - Much improved performance from someone I have criticised all season

Hobbs 7 - We need a chant for him, seriously. Apart from their last goal he was solid.

Morrison 7 - Again, was solid at the back.

Berner 7 - Definately missed him the last few games.

Oakley 6 - A lot better than against Derby but still could improve.

King 7 - I thought he was brilliant today. Non-existent at Derby.

Wellens 7 - Mr. Consistent at the moment.

Dyer 7 - Looked lively and dangerous. However, I'd like to see him take more shots at goal when he gets in good positions.

Waghorn 6 - Worked his socks off but didn't look threatening at all. Great set pieces though.

Howard 7 - Glad to see him back in the side and performing well. I'd give him MOTM.

Gallagher 6 - Didn't really do anything apart from a couple of decent deliveries.

Adams 6.5 - Looked lively, I'd like to see him start a game.

Vaughan 6.5 - Was impressed with him today. Showed great desire and had a good chance cleared off the line.

Pearson 6.5 - I thought he got the tactics right today, it just wasn't our day.

Our Supporters 9.5 - Was annoying I didn't stand for the whole game as I was near the front but great atmosphere.

Their Supporters 3 - One stand sung.

Not really bothered about ratings, but Oakley must be dropped now.

I'm not jumping on any band wagon now, just wondering what Adams has to do to get in the team. They were spaffing left, right and centre when he went out to Orient and he gets the odd cameo here and there here while Oakley is stuck with and rarely impresses.

Bit difficult to rate today I think because although I didn't think we were terrible, I'm still struggling to give many more than a 6. So a lot of 6.5s because I dont think they deserving of 7s but at same time some were better than others.

Weale -6.5- Couple of hairy moments and a couple of decent saves.

Neilson -6- Gets a lot of stick from the stands, kids infront of me were pissing me off but in fact he didn't do too much wrong, kept things simple most the time due to lack of options. Needs a winger infront of him if he's going to have a chance going forward.

Morrison -7- Reasonably solid. First half especially.

Hobbs -7- Got away with a back pass n was wide open for 3rd but was generally good.

Berner -6.5- Not his best but was ok.

Oakley -5- Never in the game.

King -6.5- People are saying he was excellent, didn't really see it myself but did ok.

Wellens -6.5- Always tries to get on the ball but tries to do much all the time.

Waghorn -6- Worked hard but to no real effect.

Howard -6- Generally did well but missed the big chances.

Dyer -7- Our biggest threat, hope injury isnt serious. Needs to learn to go wide though, he is a winger afterall.

Gallagher -6- OK without being good.

Vaughan -6.5- Put himself about and looked a threat.

Adams -5- Thought he was poor today myself, poor corners aswel.

Saw it on TV:

Weale 6 - Didn't do anything particularly wrong.

Neilson 5.5 - Gave away possession on numerous occasions but at least tried to get forward to provide width when we attacked.

Hobbs 6.5 - Solid and assured until their last goal

Morrison 6 - Similar display to Hobbs

Berner 6.5 - Reassuring presence at left-back which will be vital in our run-in

Oakley 4 - I'll try to keep this short to avoid a rant. Struggled to complete a successful pass and was overrun in midfield. Spearing or Solano (if fit) must start in his place on Monday.

King 6.5 - Personified Leicester's performance - decent and tidy on the ball but no cutting edge

Wellens 7 - Remained committed to the cause throughout and looked our most assured player.

Dyer 7 - All our best play in the 1st half came via Dyer - he has been terrific for us in the past few weeks and fingers crossed his injury is not serious.

Waghorn 5.5 - 'Worked his socks off but didn't look threatening at all. Great set pieces though' - spot on Shiv.

Howard 6.5 - Got himself into great positions and was our biggest threat in the game but sadly missed two great chances to put us back in the game. His confidence is just not there in front of goal.

Gallagher 5.5 - Gave Leicester a different dimension after coming on but after making an initial impact, quietened as the half wore on.

Adams 5.5 - An improvement on Oakley but lacked quality in key attacking positions

Vaughan 6 - Still working his way to match fitness but his pace did cause their defence problems.

West Brom were quickest to deflections/ricochets off set pieces which was worrying - we need to close down quicker and that's not only the defence, but the whole team.

We clearly have quality in our team but confidence is the issue - we need to get behind the team on Monday.

weale 7- not much he could have done about the goals (first was a screamer, second he can't have seen till it was past him and 3rd he was hung to dry by some sloppy defending

Berner - 6 Did well kept miller in his pocket early on and frustrated west brom

Hobbs - 6 overall an acceptable performance but (along with morrison) messed up the marking for the 3rd

Morrison - 6 see hobbs

Neilson - 6 got foward and supported the attack but other than that didn't do much

Oakley - 5 Meant to be playing out wide by the way they started but just drifted around and did nothing

King - 5.5 anonymous

Wellens - 6 played alright, felt he could have thrown himself infront of morrisons shot rather than turn his back though.

Dyer - 7 Everything that was good about our performance came through him

Waghorn - 6 Got stuck in but didn't really get much of the ball

Howard - 7 along with dyer he was the only one who posed much of a threat

Subs

Gallagher - 6

Vaughan - 7 unlucky not to score at the end

from tv...

not going to give ratings for everyone but....

+'s

dyer - best player on the park for us, the only player who looked like he wanted to win

howard - 50% decent, 50% useless - but at least he was willing, sadly he only seems to be able to do anything far too deep

weale - not much he could have done to change things, and made some good stops

-'s

waghorn - did nothing and then dropped deep onto the left wing and did a bit more but nothing constructive

midfield (king, oakley, wellens) - same problem as every game i have seen this season and the gaping difference between us and WBA - totally unadventurous, never got forward to support the strikers - only attacking passes were overhit or straight to WBA, also conceded a lot of cheap possesion

How can anyone give Neilson anything more than a 2 is beyond me. He was rubbish yesterday. Gave the ball away few times, and at times his crossing was shockingly poor. He just looks so scared everytime he's on the ball. I really don't rate the guy at all.

Posted

Weale 6.5 - Couple of decent saves, and may have let in a goal with a teririble error. However, the poor lad had no chance with the 3 goals.

Neilson 4

Hobbs 7 - Solid apart from on two occasions: their 3rd goal and that pass to Miller that led to nothing.

Morrison 7 - Same as Hobbs really.

Berner 7 - Missed him.

Oakley 5 - He offers what, exactly?

King 7 - Brilliant.

Wellens 7 - Brilliant.

Dyer 7 - Looked lively and dangerous. Love to see him shoot more.

Waghorn 6.5 - Didn't look threatening yesterday. Great set pieces and shouldn't have been taken off.

Howard 7 - Should have scored, but nobody is really that close to him to offer him support.

Gallagher 6 - Couple of decent deliveries.

Adams 5 - Another one, what does he offer?

Vaughan 6.5 - Showed some desire and did well for that one cleared off of the line. Like to see him start though.

Why critisize the WBA fans when we are like that at home?

TV

Weale 6- saved what he could and got hung out to dry for the rest

Defence- Morrison went awol for the third goal and everyone was culpable for the second. Nielsen was a bit hit and miss thought he made a couple of poor decisions but got forward well alhtough he deliver was inconsistent

Midfield - Insipid and toothless - Wellens passed well at times looking to get the ball forward, King and Oakley did nothing except pass sidewards, backwards anything but forwards, Dyer was a constant threat always putting WBA on the backfoot. Waghorn was disappointing although played out of position. The midfield didn't want to get forward to support and constantly put long ball in.

Howard did well but didn't really have a chance. won a couple of headers and should have scored at least once.

Subs:

Gallagher did well - a bit of creativity, looked sharp, shite freekick

Vaughan - i thought he looked disinterested (although that could have been exasperation at the supply going up to him)

Adams - looked sharp, one or two good touches but a couple of crosses went awol.

At the geme...

Weale 5 Made 1 good save in the 1st half, but made a mistake with the Olsson header which shaved the post. Had better performances!

Berner 7 Played well

Hobbs 8 Excellent

Morrison 7 Played well

Neilson 5 Suprised how unusually not terrable he was!

Dyer 7 Looked our most dangerous player going forward

Oakley 6 no where near as bad as people have suggested

Wellens 7 class as always

King 7 played well

Waghorn 6 no service, not his best game

Howard 7 did what he had to do well, held the line, set up a few chances... should have hit the target with his shot at the start of the 2nd half!

Gallagher 6

From T.V.

Weale: 6-No chance with goals, good couple of saves decent kicking. Catch the bloody ball!!!

Neilson: 6.5- I thought he played pretty well, looked stretched at times but did ok. Crossing was a joke though.

Hobbs: 7- Great at times, could argue he was at fault for second goal (not enough distance on clearing header) and partly responsible for last goal.

Morrison: 6.5- Solid but poor positioning on last goal allowed Koren to be onside.

Berner: 7- BRUNO!! BRUNO!! missed him alot.

Wellens 7- Consitant last few displays, still don't like his cocky passing at times though.

King: 6.5- Average game, couple of decent runs from him.

Oakley: 5.5- One brilliant pass, he just gives the ball away far too much. Spearing needs a run in the last games imo.

Dyer: 7.5- Looked so dangerous, if only he could strike a ball. Then again he probably won't be with us if he could.

Waghorn: 6- Ran a lot, no threat in open play. Some good deliveries with set pieces though.

Howard: 7- Linked our play well. STOP MOANING! It really gets on my nerves now. Missed a couple of great chances.

Vaughan: 7- Impressed with his effort needs to start imo.

Adams: 6.5- Decent cameo but still lacks in his passing for me.

Gally: 6.5- Needs to start, him and Fryatt are the only blokes with some skill.

I think 3-0 flattered them tbh, we are just so toothless up front, one shot on target? Pathetic ratio I'm afraid. I am optimistic though, we have had some tough games of late and we have gone 1-0 down in every game, I can only remember us winning against QPR and Swansea in those situations.

I think that's a bit unfair on him. All season I have moaned at his performances and I agree that he probably isn't good enough for us but yesterday he really wasn't that bad. He was at fault for none of the goals for a start, whereas Hobbs, one of the best players in our team, was at fault.

Our support 9 and theirs 3?! lol

Dear me.

Well we sang throughout the whole game pretty much, even at 3-0 down. And as I said before, the had one stand that sung. In fact, make that half a stand.

Posted

Weale- 7

Neilson 4- Positioning was pretty good, got forward a lot, but he just lacks the important thing, ABILITY. Throw-in's were decent.

Hobbs & Morrison 7- Would be an 8, but the defending for the last goal was shocking.

Berner 6.5

Oakley 6- Maybe someone else should take captaincy so he can get his form back?

Wellens 6.5

King 7- Hardly noticed him, but when I did, he was in the right areas, and played some decent passes.

Dyer 8- Our best player, and he came off early,

Howard 7- Best I've seen of him, but I havent seen since the relegation season

Waggy 6- Worked hard, not a lot to show for it, reckon he shouldve stayed on longer.

Gally & Vaughan 6.75- Should start together

Adams 6- I dont think he has the skill for this level, league 1 would suit him.

From the game;

Weale - 6 - Couple of errors which have worried started to creep into his game. Didnt have the same confidence I normally have.

Neilson - 5 - Tried hard, but simply out of his depth. Not good enough on the ball at all, and allows his player too much room.

Hobbs - 7 - Another solid game from Jack, but missing his experienced partner in Brown

Morrison - 6 - Let Miller get on top of him at times, and really struggled with Bednar. But not bad.

Berner - 7 - Added some much needed structure to the back line, showed exactly why we need him fit for the run in. Solid.

Wellens - 8 - Always wanted the ball, and always looking to transfer the ball wide. Give us plenty of options and his pass completion rate must be through the roof. Superb player at this level.

King - 6 - Keep things simple, but went missing for a long period of the game. Although I have no doubt that keeping Dorrans quiet was mainly down to this man.

Oakley - 4 - No touch, no leadership and bad decision making. Not a good day for Mr Oakley

Dyer - 7 - Constant goal threat, looked lively, but injury got the better of him. Such a shame.

Howard - 6 - Did ok, should have taken his chances.

Waghorn - 5 - Looked completely lost out wide. Need to get him back in the middle on the shoulder of the last defender.

Subs

Vaughan - 6 - Looked lively, just needed to get himself in the game more.

Adams - 5 - Looked well out of his depth.

Gallacher - 5.5 - Didnt look interested.

Did we? I don't remember. I thought we sang more at 3-0 down though i'll say that. And their stand, sorry, half a stand that sung was still pretty vocal. Good variety of songs and cheering their own team on. All we seemed to have was Mattock abuse (which I did enjoy :giggle: ) and moronically abusing their support.

but you could argue that he got forward more often then the midfield (bar Dyer), and didn't give away any more possession than the midfield...

perhaps if we hadn't played so deep and allowed them to come at us in numbers he would have had more time on the ball.

make no mistake, it is our midfield that is strangling us, as it has been most of the season
