Collymore Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Former Leicester City favourite Garry Parker suffers mini-stroke Saturday, May 01, 2010, 07:00 Comment on this story Former Leicester City favourite Garry Parker has put on hold the chance to join Neil Lennon at Celtic after suffering a broken leg, heart problems and then a mini-stroke. Parker, 44, admits his world has been turned upside down by the events of the past month. But he is still determined to travel on crutches to Scotland to discuss a possible role with the Glasgow club if former team-mate Lennon is appointed manager on a full-time basis. Parker, a League Cup winner with City in 1997, said: "I'm in shock about the whole thing, especially the mini-stroke. I'm still not out of danger because of the irregular heartbeat and I'm having all sorts of tests. "I'm on drugs to thin the blood and I'm probably going to need cardio-electric shock treatment to get the heartbeat back into rhythm." Parker's nightmare began when he suffered the leg-break playing in a veterans' league match near his Oxfordshire home. The irregular heartbeat was picked up by medics treating the fracture. The mini-stroke happened when he was at home recuperating. "I was back home having a kip and my wife Petra noticed one side of my face had dropped. "She had seen the TV campaign and recognised the signs immediately. If she had not been so quick, I could have died or been left disabled, she was great." Parker is determined to put the trauma of the past month behind him. "I've just got to get on with it," he said. "If I have to take tablets for the rest of my life, so be it." His medical woes also put talks with Lennon on hold. "It's disappointing, because I was due to see Neil. Weeks ago he said he would like me on board if he gets the Celtic job full-time. "I'll get up there when I can – on crutches if need be – and I can spend a few days there. "I'm determined to stay in football and that's why it would be great to link up with Lenny." Parker knows his recovery could be a lengthy one. He said: "I'd never broken a bone in my professional career and then this happens. "But you have to put everything into perspective. I had treatment in the John Radcliffe, which is where they carry out post-mortems on the lads who have died in Afghanistan. I saw the bodies come in and you value even more what they are doing out there." http://www.thebluear...il/article.html He was a great player for us, one of the best passers of the ball I think i'll ever see. Hope you get well soon Gary :scarf:
davieG Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Best wishes for a speedy recovery from me I love the way he played football and his personality. I still have it indelibly etched in my mind his sending off against Athletico Madrid and that's why I can't understand so many Leicester fans pleased they got to this Europa Final.
stez Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 my most favourite all time leicester player ever. never made a bad pass, ever. i really hope he gets better soon. i also still very much dislike the cheating athletico madrid
dave_the_fox Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Get well soon. I am sure his name had two r's. Just something that always stuck in my mind!
dandannieldanok Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Blimey that's horrible luck, get well soon Garry.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Wow, and he's only 2 years older than me. A great servant of the club, I hope they sort him out... he's too young to be suffering those kinds of health problems.
Karljohn Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Get well soon Gary. Sometimes forget that it was ice cool Parker who scored from the spot against Palace at Wembley, how different things might have been had he not stuck that away.
Simi Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Nice to see that those adverts are noted and helped to save a lot more trauma hopefully.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Damn, wishing Garry all the best in his recovery.
BoneDog Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Best wishes to Garry. What a player he was, literally awesome. That goal at Stoke away in the play-offs and the celebrations are stuff of legend.
Guest Bilo Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Get well soon Garry, cracking player for us and some great memories were had from the winner at Stoke to the equalising penalty against Palace at Wembley. All the best.
iancognito Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Shocking stuff. Get well soon, Garry. Two great feet and the coolest head on the pitch in any situation. Ditto what Davie said about the Atletico incident too. Worst refereeing decision ever. Cheating batsards.
Fosse Boy Posted 2 May 2010 Posted 2 May 2010 Hope he pulls through OK - one of my favourite players when I was a young'un.
