milan_foxes Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 Kermorgant was shocking last season without the whole penalty thing. For a striker, I dont care if he (tries to) flicks the ball on and do whatever else, he has to score more. Howard's way better.
dandannieldanok Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 Unfortuanately one stupid decision by Yann means that the 6 games that Howard played well for this season have given him the favour of the fans and given Yann the fury. That's 6 more good games than Yann played. I'm sorry but this guy has done sod all, he's contributed very very little. Any old body can show decent touches and the odd decent pass but the impact he's had is so minimal that his penalty was always going to define him. If Pearson was to include and play Yann over Steve next season then I'd be very disappointed and bewildered. Howard was monumental in that play-off game and showed that he can still really trouble championship defenders.
Tilley Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 Yann Kermorgant is fucking shit, will never be as good as Howard. Ever.
Tommeh Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 Steve howard is still absolutely indispensable to our club. Honeslty one of the very last players I'd like to see leave.
Samilktray Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 We should be looking to get better than Howard in if we want to be up there again next season.
Corky Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 For the first 10 games of the season, Steve Howard was absolutely dreadful. The moan in was littered with people calling for him to be dropped and that followed through to the terraces. Unfortuanately one stupid decision by Yann means that the 6 games that Howard played well for this season have given him the favour of the fans and given Yann the fury. I thought Howard had a better season than Yann before his penalty, which had nothing to do with my thinking anyway.
Legend_in_blue Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 Until we are linked with big money moves for strikers, as that is what it will take to bring in the quality people wish for, Big Steve is the best we have. And that'll be the best we'll get imo. We won't shell out £1.5 million + on a single player so there's no chance of a quality target man coming here. Although how one judges 'quality' is clearly random.
Bugg Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 We won't shell out £1.5 million + on a single player so there's no chance of a quality target man coming here. Isn't that how much we payed for Howard anyway?
Narborough_fox Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Nigel might have another Morrison on his way in but a target man sure there are a few down in the Football Basement!
vjbapu Posted 4 June 2010 Posted 4 June 2010 Realistically, both Yann and Howard could be here next season. So search for a striker thats closer to waghorn in effort and finishing. no? If Howard was to leave, id expect yann to step up, he is not better but not THAT much worse either. I wouldnt shell out big money, yanns got a year left on his contract and would like to see given a run of games. if hes bad sell him in jan.
Finnegan Posted 4 June 2010 Posted 4 June 2010 We should be looking to get better than Howard in if we want to be up there again next season. Spot on, chocolate box.
teblin Posted 4 June 2010 Posted 4 June 2010 Nigel might have another Morrison on his way in but a target man sure there are a few down in the Football Basement! Are you referring to the millwall striker? If so have you heard something or just speculating?
Libertine Posted 4 June 2010 Posted 4 June 2010 Are you referring to the millwall striker? If so have you heard something or just speculating? Erm... Michael Morrison perhaps?
milan_foxes Posted 4 June 2010 Posted 4 June 2010 Erm... Michael Morrison perhaps? No because Narborough_fox said there's 'another' Morrison on Pearsons radar so it would probably be the Millwall striker.
davieG Posted 4 June 2010 Posted 4 June 2010 Nigel might have another Morrison on his way in but a target man sure there are a few down in the Football Basement! I believe he meant another "Morrison type player" as in one from the lower leagues and he only said 'he might have another"
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 5 June 2010 Posted 5 June 2010 I really hope & think Steve Howard will still be here next year. Ok, There are better strikers out there but he'd be pretty difficult to replace in terms of the job he does for us. None of our other strikers can do the same job, win the ball in the air, hold it up & rough up defences like Howard can. Yann is decent in the air but I still don't think hes' quite the same type of player as Howard. Just look at why Heskey is in the world cup squad. I think a lot of people would argue that there are better English strikers out there, certainly with a better strike rate who are more capable of scoring goals. But Heskey offers a unique option and it seems to work. It gives England options tactically and that's what having Howard in our team does as well. Howard can do the traditional target man job very well but can also act as a good foil for a quicker more mobile striker like Fryatt/Waghorn. Would be a big blow if he went in my opinion

If we could find a quality big man replacement though, who could find the net and win headers from goal kicks, I wouldn't be too upset. We were lost in the first leg against cardiff without him - which was his own daft fault as I remember rightly..... he was a tool. N.
Xander Posted 5 June 2010 Posted 5 June 2010 The bloke is past it and one game doesn't warrant another season here when his bones will be another preseason worse off.
dandannieldanok Posted 5 June 2010 Posted 5 June 2010 The bloke is past it and one game doesn't warrant another season here when his bones will be another preseason worse off. It wasn't just one good game though. I distinctly remember Pearson reinstating him after the Forest (away) and Bristol (home) debacles, and his presence gave us something to build off and our form picked up greatly. We all know if he stays he's not going to play 46 games next season, but I still reckon he can cause major problems for some championship defences.
Tuna Posted 5 June 2010 Posted 5 June 2010 From what I understand, Gary Johnson felt that his decision to release big Dele Abebola was a mistake which ultimately cost him his job as they missed his physical prescence. Dele is a similar player and at the same sort of age as Howard. However, if properly replaced, we should attempt to cash in on him if possible. Steve wears his heart on his sleeve and seems a thoroughly decent bloke who has scored some vital goals and contributed heavily to our success under Nigel Pearson. But you have to recognize when it is time for a change and I feel now that it is time for both ourselves and Steve to move on an look to the future.
Narborough_fox Posted 5 June 2010 Posted 5 June 2010 I believe he meant another "Morrison type player" as in one from the lower leagues and he only said 'he might have another" Spot on Davie thanks for that.
Ashley Posted 7 June 2010 Posted 7 June 2010 Some of the comments about Steve Howard being past it are shocking. Yes he did struggle at the start of the season but from around january when he got a run of games the bloke was one of our best players every game, he more or less controlled the game up front at Cardiff away (Play-offs) and if we had him in the first league it would of been a different story!
Liamlcfc1 Posted 10 June 2010 Author Posted 10 June 2010 More new from a their local paper that Howard could go http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/cardiff-city-fc/2010/06/10/ridsdale-bids-cardiff-city-goodbye-91466-26619390/
