Guest DavidJCW Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 From the Merc Speculation is growing that a consortium is about to buy Leicester City FC in an multi-million-pound deal. There were reports in yesterday's national press that investors from Indonesia and elsewhere were on the brink of making an offer for the club. Leicester City chief executive Lee Hoos said no offer had been made so far but said a multi-million-pound investment would be "great for everyone". He said: "We've never made a secret of the fact that if the right people came along we would be interested. "To the best of my knowledge nothing has happened as yet. "No one has made an offer but people have come in and had talks about taking an interest in the club. "If someone came along willing to put millions into the club it would be great for everyone." The Foxes appointed former QPR and Swansea boss Paulo Sousa as manager last week, which has been taken as a sign that new investment would arrive this summer. The hope is that the new owners would invest in the club and get it back into the Premier League. Reports also stated that the Indonesian buyers wanted to set up academies in south Asia to create new talent. Erm... yeah... no thanks.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 Erm... yeah... no thanks. Yes, Why? Don't you believe in investment then?
Guest Mee-9 Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 Yes, Why? Don't you believe in investment then? Before I'm pounced on I ain't being racist. But would you want to see aload of asian players, kicking out the talent we already have at the club? And there wouldn't be anything Sousa could do about it, as they pay his wages, and they would want these players playing.

Wouldn't want them to kick out the talent we've got, but if one or two gems came from the Asian academy then that wouldn't be a bad thing surely?

I highly doubt Sousa would be forced into playing substandard players, they might be businessmen but they aren't idiots.
ousefox Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 I'm suprised how hardly any asian players play in the UK. Can only think of South Koreans in the EPL and is it Zesh Rehman for Bradford.
dave the caveman Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 I heard a rumour that some Australian group wanted to buy us out and were going to set up some academies in Austria. The two countries sound similar, so it must make sense, right? Seriously though Indonesia is nowhere near South Asia, and has nothing at all to do with India. Until we get some reports that contain, at the very least, accurate basic geographical knowledge, then I think we should forget all about this takeover.

The success rate of such academics are woeful, Ajax have one for donkeys in Cape Town but it's not produced more than two regulars for their firsts. Indonesia is pretty much as South as the continent Asia goes.... http://www.traveldocs.com/images/asia_b.jpg That's your geography lesson.

dave the caveman Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 Indonesia is pretty much as South as the continent Asia goes.... http://www.traveldocs.com/images/asia_b.jpg That's your geography lesson. Yes, well, Kettering is pretty much in the middle and to the east of England, but that doesn't mean Kettering is in the Middle East. South Asia refers to the Indian Subcontinent. Indonesia is in South East Asia. So thanks for the lesson, but you're wrong. And I know it may seem pedantic, but pedantry comes in handy when judging credibility of articles such as this. What isn't pedantic though is the link between Indonesia and India - that link is just laughable, it's based on similar spelling, ffs. These reports are a joke. Forget them.

But Kettering is in the Midlands? Indonesia is the most southern country of Asia in the same sense that Cornwall is the most Southern part of the UK regardless of what side of the country they fall, so it's an accurate description. I can see your point as in Southern Europe being Greece etc. I don't even think the journalists was trying to make a comparison, he was just alluding to that Leicester's Asian population is a massive untapped market that any with fresh eyes may view as a moneypot if exploited.
Edmund Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 Actually on second thought dave the caveman is right. Indonesia is South East Asia. South Asia is technically right but it's definitely classed as South East Asia.
hackneyfox Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 Bert has mentioned on here that 'they' have visited twice. A couple of people who have contacts on Bentleys have also said the same. Mandaric has intimated that he is ready to sell. Whether this actually happens or not does not change the fact that the club is being looked at by potential buyers. Just because lazy journalism is involved doesn't stop ther from being a nugget of truth in this, but the asia/se asia is laughable.

South Asia is technically right but it's definitely classed as South East Asia. Well 'technically' it's not right but i see what you're saying. For some lazy proof go on the bbc news website, click world from the panel on the left, then South Asia, and take note of where those stories come from or better yet, look at the area that is highlighted on the little map icon. Indonesia comes under Asia Pacific, which includes South East Asia, not South Asia. It's not the end of the world, just lazy journalism which is why i'm guessing it's not true

Edmund Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 To be pedantic that region is usually referred to as The Far East
cambridgefox Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 To be pedantic that region is usually referred to as The Far East Or the Orient. We could narrow the far east/orient area down by a few countries and call it south east asia.
Joe. Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 I genuinely don't want this to happen. Just sounds very dodgy to me on first thoughts, I should add.
Guest Bilo Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 The only Far Eastern player I really want here is Jong Tae Se. But he's gone to Bochum. Bloody Commie. <_<
Far Post Gerry Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 Yeah, I hate to say it but you ain't gonna find any gems from the Far East - not right now anyway. Thaksin brought a couple of Thai players over when he bought Man City. They ended up getting loaned out to Grasshoppers, and didn't even play much there. That said, Indonesia has a population of around 250 million, and they all love football - not a bad place to start an academy, but it'll take 20 years of investment to unearth that one quality player. You might as well spend that money on Edgar Davids' wages...
Mr B Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 I seriously hope they don't. Yes they bring money in, but i just don't like all these foreign investors taking over clubs, and acting as if it's a game they are playing on their PC's. Yes i do know Mandaric is here, but not alot we can do there, and he has actually taken an interest in the club. But do you really think Man City's owners care about the club? I'd love to see it happen where no 1 person can own a club, and it's owned by the fans, or even abit like Germany have it. Never going to happen though unfortunately.

Clubs owned by fans or something closer to the German model would be excellent but the game in this country is just too greedy to allow it. The likes of Man City's owners, Rupert Murdoch and the Glazers rule the roost right now. Maybe when the game finally implodes through it's own sheer greed the balance will begin to be redressed but until that time, we just have to put up with foreign investors wanting to make a quick buck out of us and hope they don't bollocks us up too much. Great plan, nothing can go wrong. PS: Good to see you back mate and nice sig.
hackneyfox Posted 13 July 2010 Posted 13 July 2010 All done and dusted by Friday. According to someone in the know on Bentleys. Bert where are you?
