Asian Consortium To Buy Out City

if we do get taken over and loads of money gets pumped in and we go up and keep getting stronger, its peeps like the guy on here from cambridge and other parts i feel for.

they will all of a sudden find it harder to get tickets due to glory grabbers (grrr)

In league 1 i went to most of the away games but the leyton orient game stands out for one reason i didnt speak to 1 city fan from leicester all day.

the 3 guys in the pub before the game was from london, a guy on the coach was over for 1 year from Australia and in the ground the 3 guys to my right was all from Newcastle,

last year in the cup at Cardiff i walked back into town with 2 guys from the isle of wight.

they might only make lets say 10 games a year but these are the REAL fans who will suffer if we become big oh and called glory grabbers if in a pub in there home town when asked who they support.

We have to wait and see more details about this, we can't go making any conclusions until we know a) if it's for real b) who they are c) how stupid rich they actually are.

The relationship between facts and conclusions on FT is nonexistent....

From the Merc

Speculation is growing that a consortium is about to buy Leicester City FC in an multi-million-pound deal.

There were reports in yesterday's national press that investors from Indonesia and elsewhere were on the brink of making an offer for the club.

Leicester City chief executive Lee Hoos said no offer had been made so far but said a multi-million-pound investment would be "great for everyone".

He said: "We've never made a secret of the fact that if the right people came along we would be interested.

1x1.GIF "To the best of my knowledge nothing has happened as yet. "No one has made an offer but people have come in and had talks about taking an interest in the club.

"If someone came along willing to put millions into the club it would be great for everyone."

The Foxes appointed former QPR and Swansea boss Paulo Sousa as manager last week, which has been taken as a sign that new investment would arrive this summer. The hope is that the new owners would invest in the club and get it back into the Premier League.

Reports also stated that the Indonesian buyers wanted to set up academies in south Asia to create new talent.

Frankly I find this all pretty worrying...:o

Clearly a substantial investment by new owners would be great, but only if there interests coincide with the best interests of the Club. Any business man (or 'consortium') will have his own agenda, this is inevitable. A 'good' owner will invest wisely and build the club up step by step, ie spending enough this year to gain promotion, enough the following year to maintain Premier League status and build from there. Such people do exist and they grow their clubs at a rate that both they and their clubs can sustain, taking whatever time is necessary to improve the club in a sustainable manner.

What concerns me the most is getting owners/investors who are simply looking for quick results, whether that is financial return, media exposure or some other business reason not related to football. We know that Mandaric has an agenda and we know pretty much what it is, would we have any idea what a foreign 'consortium' would consider to be in the clubs best interests? Would they even know what the best interests of the club was? I'm trying hard not to be xenophobic, but if their idea of English football is what they see of the EPL and CL on TV then they are in for a severe reality check!

The kind of money needed to take a club like City into the Premier League and keep it there would be pretty substantial, even if the club is well managed at all levels and the investment is sensible and structured over several years, I find it hard to see what new owners would get out of the project.

Not knowing what the owners want and expect to achieve out of owning the club is the real worry..

Obviously, they want nothing more than to make supporters happy.

I did state 2 weeks ago that an asian consortium was coming in but my post was deleted :frusty:also expect to see sven installed as the manager they want.

Even if we just recently appointed a certain P. Sousa?

Can I have a look into your crystal ball, please?

I think we all need to get a bit of a reality check.

Any new owner or consortium are going to be interested in one thing. Speculate to accumulate.

By this I mean that youth products are not going to be coming through to the first team at conveyor belt proportion. 'Gems' from the lower leagues are not going to be bought and developed (Lennon, Savage, Morrison etc).

What will happen is, overpriced players from abroad and the lower half of the Premiership will be brought in, plus a couple of 'marquee' signings.

All of this will be to sell more shirts in the investors country, get on tv more for revenue purposes and to get into the Premiership as soon as possible. Once in the Premiership, we'd probably see the trend continue with foreign signings for a couple of years. Once we are stable and established as a Premiership club and the gates and merchandise revenues are at a high, the signings will dry up and the ticket prices will rise. All the money that the investors put in will be clawed back and more!!

Then it will be down to good management whether or not we stay in the Premiership or not and the investors once they have the money they set out to make, will probably sell up leaving us high and dry.

It will be painful for us all to see our club drain away, but the truth is, Leicester City Football Club as we all fell in love with as children, dissapeared the day the Walkers Stadium construction began. We can all wish that a team can be built on a shoestring with a dynamic manager to take us all the way as in the O'Neil days, but the reality is that just wont happen again. The game has changed and unfortuantely it basically subsribes to the rule that most things in life subscribe to.

Money talks.

Sven would make perfect sense to a consortium who new little (and cared less) about football, fortunately he looks like going to (poor) Fulham. To some owners it is all about profile, particularly managers and players, football coming a long way behind.

A manager like Sven, charged with bringing in high profile but over the hill players is to my mind the nightmare scenario, a bunch of high profile personalities, all bigger than the club, sucking the very life out of it, shudder...

With Sousa appointed it looks like that route is not open, at least I hope so!

Well this is all pretty negative, sounds like you'd rather we stayed in the championship forever with no money to spend.

The way this is all unfolding, it sounds like we need this investment more than anything just to keep the club afloat and competative.

Mandys 3 year plan basically meant "we have 3 years worth of money". Now thats ran out we need investment, it's as simple as that.

A pretty unpleasant scenario, but an entirely believable one, the kind that nightmares are made of....

I can think of several others just as unpleasant, but then I might simply be winding myself up, after all we really do not, as yet have much of a clue as to what is really happening. Money certainly talks and it is possible that new owners/investors use it wisely and develop the club in a proper, sustainable manner, but the issue I raised earler remains, what do they expect to get out of their investment?...:dunno:

Actually I hope you are correct, some extra money to stabilize the club and allow it to move forward at a pace it can sustain would be ideal...

We are still talking about millions of pounds, so once again I ask the question, what would they want out of it?

Posted

Haven't FIFA introduced new rules requiring clubs to break even (or some such)? If that's right, then it won't matter how many Baht, Rupiah or Ringgits the investors have, they won't be able to overspend.

They'd want us to get in the premiership and stay their, meaning muchos money for them, and loads more off promoting our club in their country, which would be a whole lot easier if our club is playing in the top flight.

Althogh the same can be said about any club owner in our league, i think the fact that we've been their before and have the staff and facilities already in place makes us a more attractive deal than most clubs.

Thanks...

You're putting a more positive spin on things than I have been able to manage in the last week or so, cheered me up, a bit anyway!

I would be happy to see owners/investors making money out of the long term success of the club, it is some of the other scenarios that leave me most worried.
