Guest DavidJCW Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 With the final being shown by both at the same time, I was wondering what the share would have been between them... and unsurprisingly the BBC won by a country mile! BBC - Peaked at 17.9m viewers, average of 15.1m. ITV - Peaked at 3.8m viewers, average of 3.3m. What did everyone watch the final on? Needless to say, I was a BBC viewer throughout the night. Not once did I bother venturing over to ITV.
dandannieldanok Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 ITV shouldn't have bothered with the cup final. Guarantee they would have had just as many, if not more, viewers had they shown the likes of Coronation Street e.t.c.

Did they seriously think they could compete with the BBC?
Koke Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 Watching it on BBC was so disgusting. The extreme bias and blatant favouritism infuriated me, really. You would have been forgiven to think It was like the little sweet innocent angels [spain] versus the brutal barbaric criminal thugs [Holland]. I'm sure ITV were at it as well, although no one will have watched those inconsequential amateurs, so we'll never know.
lildave3 Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 Be interested to see how much Top Gear got compared to ITV's showing of the final.
DB11 Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 I started on ITV as I didn't realise that BBC were showing it! When I realised I prompty swapped over
Matt Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 BBC no competition. I hope ITV goes bust, or atleast lose's their football coverage rights.
ousefox Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 ITV got their arses kicked. Had BBC on with 5live commentary on red button.
AyewJoking Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 The missus had itv on but i quickly set her straight.
Jimothy Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 I flicked on to ITV during the build up to see who they had on the panel and then quickly went back to BBC. ITV are shocking at almost everything they do.
dandannieldanok Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 ITV are shocking at almost everything they do. Football-wise: yes. Other sports: no. ITV have actually made a decent job of presenting of other sports in the past and present (e.g. Formula One, Cycling......), but they're let down badly by their flagship football productions which are calamitous.

To be honest other than F1, which ITV did alright with but are nowhere near the BBC, I haven't watched much sport other than football on ITV. I was really just referring to how they manage to mess up everything from comedy to news coverage. I think Champions League football is about the only thing I've sat through and watched to the end on ITV in years, everything else I've tried has been woeful.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 ITV have to sit up and take note of those figures - they are worrying for something that will have cost them a fair amount in rights and should bring them a lot in advertising revenue but to then see how badly they faired the directors must have thought shit. And as some have said, the BBC are in a little bit of a transitional phase and are not necessarly on the top of their game, what with withdrawing Motty from the front line of commentating, they don't have the same old stable Match of the Day people that everyone got used too. Although, it has to be said, bringing in Clarence Seedorf proved a masterstroke.
FoxyPV Posted 13 July 2010 Posted 13 July 2010 Watched it on RTE - superb coverage and analysis. They wipe the floor with both BBC and ITV - although a rabid dog chewing on my nose would be more pleasurable than watching ITV.
Rocket-Ron Posted 13 July 2010 Posted 13 July 2010 To be fair ITV aren't as "Uniquely" funded as the BBC is. They don't have the bottomless pit of money that gets thrown at them. But I still watched the BBC coverage. I think I'm the only person that gets Lawrensons humour
Bryn Posted 13 July 2010 Posted 13 July 2010 ITV's coverage is always diabolical, they seem to make no effort to produce a higher standard.
lcfcadam Posted 13 July 2010 Posted 13 July 2010 But I still watched the BBC coverage. I think I'm the only person that gets Lawrensons humour I don't get why no one can stand Lawro - I think he's hilarious, matched only by the introduction of Mick Mccarthy (a BBC masterstroke that one).
Wymsey Posted 13 July 2010 Posted 13 July 2010 BBC much experienced in matchday experience commetary and analysis with Lineker, Lawrenson and Shearer rather than ITV and the fatty Brum Brum man Chiles.
Rocket-Ron Posted 13 July 2010 Posted 13 July 2010 BBC much experienced in matchday experience commetary and analysis with Lineker, Lawrenson and Shearer rather than ITV and the fatty Brum Brum man Chiles. I have a vision of Bernard Bresslaw saying this in carry on up the Kyber
Hitesh Posted 13 July 2010 Posted 13 July 2010 I watched it on ESPN India as I'm out here on work at the moment and it made me realise how good BBC's coverage is! Wish I could have watched it on the good ol Beeb!
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 13 July 2010 Posted 13 July 2010 I think even Channel 5's coverage would have been better than ITV's and that is saying something.
The Doctor Posted 13 July 2010 Posted 13 July 2010 watched it on the beeb - doesn't really make a difference though. beeb are terribly bias with (mainly) boring pundits (hansen, Lawro etc.) and itv's coverage was presented by adrian chiles and included punditry from the likes of gareth southgate - your in a lose-lose situation there.
Alexikokopops Posted 14 July 2010 Posted 14 July 2010 I'd be interested to see what the viewing figures were for the past few finals. I'd imagine BBC's is usually better, but ITV's could have been further affected for this world cup by their balls ups on the HD channel and stuff.
