Sooper Steve's shin Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 I was more worried about the lack of a "lack of new faces" thread this summer. We were getting dangerously close to the end of the third week in July and it hadn't come up. Everyone else who has an internet forum seem to be complaining about this apart from us! The season is looming large and we've only had one new manager, new backroom staff and a couple of new signings for people to moan about and say they are not good enough - which in itself is not good enough. Thank goodness for muzzyisalegend.
Corky Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 Bloody hell, give the bloke a chance to settle in. He's been here a couple of weeks and said he would look at what we've got, which isn't too bad in the main, before rushing into making new signings. He's had three matches so far which will give him some sort of idea as to which players he feels fit in and which don't. I'm sure we will make new purchases, but we aren't blessed with millions of pounds to spend, it's not easy to bring in better players than before. We have two weeks before the season starts, still more than enough time to add to the squad.
martyn Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 Although it is valid to say we've only lost Brown and Solano (which is a disappointing loss imo), we have also lost the loan players who made a difference to the squad last year, even if it only allowed some rotation and added fresh impetus to the squad. I'd say we need to sort out the RB position as a matter of urgency, add a couple of decent midfielders and perhaps a forward (depending on how PS wants to set up). Hopefully he scours the loan market as well as we did last season.
Bugg Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 i never said we need some new faces did i ? i said i would like a proven goalscorer, what is wrong with that. and why ffs? i only said the stories in the mercury are boring.... You kind of did say you would like new faces in, And we already have a proven goal scorer, Jay Simpson isn't exactly a proven goalscorer either.
teblin Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 Right back. Michael morrison. Can parkes play full back?
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 Can parkes play full back? Dunno, but Luke O'Neill, he came off the bench and played a bit for us last year, is he ready for first team football, or is he not good enough?
martyn Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 If Morrison is a shoe in for RB then that leaves 3 realistic options at centre half, 1 of whom we are unsure as to whether a return to the pitch is likely to happen any time soon, and 1 wild card who could go either way. Maybe stating an "urgent" need was ott, but we need to strengthen in that area.

And after that players can still be got on loan. Also, Sousa is looking at some of the youngsters who have come through the academy to see if they can fill out the squad. No point in having an academy if the lads aren't given a chance.
stifler Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 You kind of did say you would like new faces in, And we already have a proven goal scorer, Jay Simpson isn't exactly a proven goalscorer either. i said i would LIKE a proven goalscorer, not NEED
teblin Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 i said i would LIKE a proven goalscorer, not NEED As he said we already have one. Maybe two he just hasn't done it here.
leicesterseddon Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 I think we've got the backbone of a good team, but that if we want to be realistic promotion contenders we're going to have to have one more good-quality forward and a pair of wingers who can cross the ball (something we haven't had for years). It's no good playing Oakley out on the right as we did at times last season. Adams failed to make an impact and though Dyer has pace, he's too inconsistent. That said, I'm sure Sousa is looking and it wouldn't surprise me if a few deals aren't almost done already. As others have said, wholesale changes aren't the way forward, particularly as we don't have much money to spend. Better to concentrate the resources we have than bring in 5, 6, 7 players who are crud. I think we'll have to make use of the loan system some more too to bring in squad players, but we'll be facing lots of competition because most of the teams in this league (including the ones coming down from the Premiership) are just as broke as us.
Wymsey Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 More people negative on this forum than at Coronation Street. Have a little patience we will buy a few more good quality players as Mandaric says there's money in the bank.

Maybes Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 Jesus christ - we do have some right lemons as supporters.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 ***1970s LIGHT ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMMING THEMED POST ALERT*** Marti Caine, Roger De Courcey, Gary Wilmot and Jim Davidson That's the sort of New Faces we're lacking
stifler Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 to say you want a proven goalscorer is saying you want a new face! yess i did say i would like a proven goalscorer. but i didnt not say we NEEEED a proven goalscorer, why does everyone have to argue. just picking on the little things people say
stifler Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 to say you want a proven goalscorer is saying you want a new face! there is a difference between, WOULD LIKE & NEED.
lanxfox Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 Maybe some of the academy lads playing in pre-season such as Parkes and John are being deemed good enough? You forgot Schlupp
Bablemikey Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 I would suggest that Sousa has a couple of lists of potential targets. One would represent those he could pursue given the finance available to from the club as it stands, and a second list containing those he would want if given a significantly bigger budget were to appear. For example from a takeover or investment monies injected into the club. He would probably not want to commit too much to either course of action until he's certain which list is realistic for him.
lcfc_sam_p Posted 22 July 2010 Posted 22 July 2010 Is it just me, or is anyone else a bit worried about the lack of new faces coming in? Everyone else who could be challengers for promotion next season seem to be strengthening apart from us!! The season is looming large and we've only signed 2 players, one which I doubt will have any impact at all (Kennedy). We've still got problem postions that need a resolution Mr Sousa! It's just you.
muzzyisalegend Posted 22 July 2010 Author Posted 22 July 2010 It's just you. Guess it is! All I was saying is that all the other "contenders" have added, some considerably ('boro) to their squads, and we haven't. I didn't mean it as a negative, just voicing my fears folks! All I want is to be able to build on last season's success, same as you lot.
poopbutt Posted 23 July 2010 Posted 23 July 2010 yeah, what's up with O'neill. perfect opp for him to get in at RB
