Just seen the press conference. Ferguson looked gutted :giggle:

Now the ball is in Rooneys court, he has to perform when given the chance to wear the Man Utd shirt and certainly England shirt. Big admirer of Rooney, I hope he goes Man City just to make the Premiership a bit more exciting.

Arsenal or Chelsea would make more sense where he would get regular football. Don't think City should risk upsetting Tevez and Mancini is only ever going to play one up top. Real, AC, Inter and Barca don't need him and he wouldn't settle.

How long before its the Utd supporters outside the high court in London?? :D

This, but I hope to God he doesn't go Man City.

Tbh, can't see him at any other club at the moment. :/

As much as I dislike him, it would be a huge coup to get him at Arsenal...

...but you can bet your bottom dollar it wont ever happen. The only slightly hypothetical way is if RvP was used as a make-weight (Fergusson has often expressed his like/admiration of him), but with him being a favourite of both the manager and the fans, I cant see that happening

I'd ship him off to a championship club on loan, maybe to hook up with a manager that gave him his England debut.

Not a huge surprise and if he goes, he could be the first of many.

I have a feeling this is the beginning of a power shift in English football across Manchester to Eastlands, especially with MU so saddled by debt. Give it five years and MU could very easily be in the same state as Liverpool, ironic considering that's exactly who Ferguson set out to emulate when first appointed.

As for Rooney himself, there are probably only two or three clubs that can afford him. Manchester City are one of course but I can see him wanting to escape the British press and some of the problems he's caused for himself in this country by going abroad. Which leaves Real or Barca. Mourinho is a long-term admirer of Rooney's, Ronaldo has tried to persuade him to go over to the Bernabeu before and they're one of the few clubs that have a higher international profile than his current club. Barca's less likely, there's no way he's getting a regular spot ahead of Messi and Villa.

I'm saying he'll be a Real Madrid player by August. The depressing thing is that I can't rule out Man City. :/

he will have to wait for his chance though

Wayne Rooney has always made it perfectly clear he has no desire to play football abroad.

Unless that has changed I'd expect him to stay in the Premier League (even worse for Ferguson)

It will be Real, no doubt at all. Man U have a long history of doing business with them when it suits both parties. Rooney will settle no problem. He lives in a bubble anyway, why not do it in Madrid.

I reckon Man City or Chelsea will go in for him in January. Will be weird seeing Rooney in a Man City shirt though. Everton won't be happy if he goes there!

Thats the ideal for Man U, unfortuantly for them as I said earlier, Rooney really is not kean on the idea of going abroad from what I have read in the past.

As someone has already pointed out, Rooney holds the cards, it's a rather strange situation to be honest, normally when a player leaves Man U it's on Fergusons terms. However with the club saddles with god knows how many millions of pounds of debt and Rooneys cost nose diving every transfer window they don't sell him due to his contract only having 18 months left on it, red nose is up a creek (which I am loving)

Your more optimistic than most of the United fans I know. Can't see Rooney going to City though..I doubt he or his family would feel particularly safe for quite a long time.

There are only a selection of clubs big enough for him in the prem

Man city, people say he wont go there, I dont think the rivalry will put him off

Arsenal, cant afford him

Chelsea, do they want him

Real Madrid, got enough strikers

Barca, maybe, but would he eat the food?

Its ok wanting out, but wanting out and finding a club who want him and can afford him are 2 different things

Rooney is too thick to learn Spanish, and I don't think he's the type of person who is able to integrate into another culture and people.

Fair play to Ferguson. He played a big PR blinder by laying it all on the table, instead of the usual cloak and dagger stuff. Also, important that he mentioned that the door is still open for Rooney.

Arsenal for the record could afford him, easily.

Wenger just wouldn't spend the money and I don't think it'd be the right move for either party.

I don't think Mancini will stick to one up front all season. When he has everybody fit he will mix it up. Can't be leaving Silva, Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Jo and Balotelli all on the bench. I think he could get rid of Adebayor (maybe to Inter) to make room for Wayne Rooney. They have so much money they could do it literally just for the sake of pissing off united. It would be like TevezGate mark 2 x 1000!

His Mrs has already said she doesn't want to go abroad and I doubt the current domestic balance of power between them is going to enable him to put his foot down. They could always split up I suppose.

What a peculiar situation.
