Cheese Me Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I hope he's ready for an Ole Gunner Solskjaer role I'm really pleased abou this and I think that's exactly the role he can play for us. (last minute winner in the Champions League Final would be nice)
MrSpaM Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 How can people be moaning about this? This is excellent news
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Happy about this. He had a bad game against Hull but otherwise he has contributed a lot every time he has come one. His goal against Leeds was class. Just look at where he starts his run from, spotting the gap and working his bollocks off to create an option for King. His experience and strength make up for his lack of pace for me.

If we buy some foreign stars they can learn from his passion too, look how runs to the fans to celebrate his goals, he's a mans man & I love him ;-)
foxoffderby Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I hope he stays on the bench for the remainder of his time here as an impact player. Not really a good statement of intent from Sven. We should now be aiming for bigger fish on one hand were being linked with all and sundry with Sven already having 50 possible players being touted to him by agents then on the other we give an average Championship player a new contract. Not good.
Koke Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I love Howard. I would have extended his contract for sentimental reasons alone.
Corky Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 He's scored three winners in the last three games against Leeds. Worth keeping for that.
ajthefox Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I used to think Howard was shit and really didn't get why we played him, but the past couple of seasons he's won me over and I'm glad it's been extended. New strikers or not he is worth having on the team, and I don't imagine his wages are that high anyway.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Very happy to be keeping Steve Howard. The most under-rated player at the club because people confuse "forward" with "striker". I'm sure any striker would love to play alongside him. What people are 'on about' is that extending his contract for so long is an indication we're less likely to splash the cash on someone better? Not at all. I think Sven sees his worth as support player who adds another weapon to the arsenal. What Howard does well (holds the ball up, wins it in the air, lays it off, nods it on) he does as well as any other player until you start getting into the silly money amounts. Well worth keeping.
Tommeh Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Fantastic news, such an important player for us proved that on Tuesday. I'm actually embarrased to support the same club as the nobodies who see Howard as a waste of space.
Lillehamring Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 i can only imaging the club have done this because they know he is a fans favourite. he's not good enough over 90 minutes now, in the nPC. and we definitely need someone better if we hope to go up. not sure if this or the cunningham loan has confused me the most.
unreachable Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Since Howard will be out of contract at the end of the season at least the extra year on his contract will allow us to get a transfer fee for him if we choose to sell him at the end of the season. That would seem to be a sensible commercial decision instead of him leaving on a free transfer.
Matt Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Although i'm a big Steve Howard fan I do feel we should be looking at replacing him but we are a better team with him than without him, that's all i'm saying.
Karljohn Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Not a big fan of Howard but as an impact sub he's worth the deal. Put it this way, if I were an opposition defender, with 20 minutes left of defending to do, the last person I would want to see would be Steve Howard.
Cobbo Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Great asset to have in the squad. Well worth another season after this. Scored the winner on Tuesday and people still moan about a fairly short contract extension for the big ban? Sigh.
FoxyPV Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Always worth throwing on late in a game. He's worth it for sentimental reasons alone as already stated.
Uncle Monty Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Good news for me. Love Steve, one of my favourite players for his sheer determination and grit.
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Thing is, Sven quite obviously couldn't care less about sentiment. He wouldn't keep somebody on if he didn't think they added something to the squad. He has never made allowances for popularity or familiarity before so why would he start now? He clearly thinks Howard offers something that makes him worth keeping.
Cropwellfox Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 He's not going to play 40 games this year, or next, and as such I don't see him as first choice player next season, but he will have a value around the squad - On Saturday we had no real forward option on the bench, and if we, as I would expect with Eriksson, end up buying quality over quantity, we'll need a couple of decent forward players in the squad who will inevitably need to step in during the course of a season. Also he's a good character and a great solid pro, who our kids could learn much from. For those reasons, i'm in...
xplicitmaterial Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Keep him for cup games Nah am happy hes signed a new contract, he will always give sven options when he doesnt wanna risk anyone injury in a pysical match
Jodranadinho Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Gives us a different dimension and hes always a guarantee to score against leeds
