StanSP Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Just read on Stringer's Twitter that Howard has signed a new contract til the end of the 2011/2012 season.
Tommy G Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Shame he hasn't terminated it Joke Another year and a half to sit on the bench, I hope he's ready for an Ole Gunner Solskjaer role
Samilktray Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 All this money we have now, and we're giving Steve Howard a new contract.
Jimmy Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 if used in the role he was at Leeds he can go at least another season
lcfcsnow Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Sven.. We should have been moving on before the investors came in nevermind now we can get better players in. Disappointing.
lcfcsnow Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Another year and a half to sit on the bench, I hope he's ready for an Ole Gunner Solskjaer role Will he though? We'll end up starting him again on Saturday.
lou Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Christ theyll be bringing him ONTO the pitch on a stretcher by then!!
Lester LXXIV Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Character and experience count for something, both in the changing room and on the training ground. Some players are worth keeping for something other than their technical ability I suppose.
Tilley Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Surprised. Not exactly a signal of intent for if Sven thinks he can do a job then so be it.

STUHILL Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I think he is great as an impact player. Good for last 10-15minutes of games if we need a bit of bite upfront and I think he is a real presence in the dressing room. Just because he has signed a new contract doesn't mean he will stay another year and half either as I can't see him being happy sat on the bench for over a year, not that kind of character. Good reward for a real battler.
Unknown Fox Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I for one am happy with this, I'm all for bringing in quality, but I don't want our club to lose its character and in recent years the likes of steve, bruno, king, and hobbs have become prominent figures in the side, and I think if we started shipping all these players out then we would lose some identity. I'm not at all saying steve should be a regular in the starting XI, but he doesn't deserve to be shown the door, and besides with money steves wages is hardly going to cause a dent , and I see having him here will be good to help in the development of younger players, and he is respected by many fans just for the sheer amount of effort and drive he has.
cc_star Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Don't get what people are on about. I'm pretty far from his biggest fan, but he is a great sub a) If we're winning bring him on to hold the ball up b) If we're not winning bring him on to mix the game up It will have the added bonus of showing existing squad members that if they do work hard they have a future, there's far more to building a team than just signing players... The squad has to be 'right' in the head as well Another good piece of business by Sven
Wymsey Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Not brilliant news but still lets see if he is still worthy for the team
Finnegan Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 What people are 'on about' is that extending his contract for so long is an indication we're less likely to splash the cash on someone better?
STUHILL Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 What people are 'on about' is that extending his contract for so long is an indication we're less likely to splash the cash on someone better? I don't see that. He would be more than adequate as a fourth striker, if we sign 1 or 2 better ones in the mean time which is likely. If he isn't happy being a fourth striker then he can move, but that's where I see his role for the next 18 months when we do sign better. He won't be on crazy wages and I think he is a real leader in the dressing room, where our current Captain seems lacking. I still think he has a lot to offer at this level, especially coming off the bench for 20mins at a time and giving us a different dimension if needed.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 hmm a surprisingly positive response! I'm actually quite pleased. He has definitely earnt himself a new contract and the squad wouldn't be the same without him. This amazed me Posted Today, 01:51 PM Of all people I cannot believe that YOU are being nice about Steve Howard.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I rate big Steve. He puts 100% in all the time and gives us a different dimension that without we sometimes struggle. If he comes off the bench and changes a few games than it is a good deal.
