Walshy5 Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Ok folks what sort of reception do we expect Wayne Brown to get next week if he plays?
Karljohn Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Ok folks what sort of reception do we expect Wayne Brown to get next week if he plays? Not entirely sure, but what a battle if he's up against big Steve!
Finnegan Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Ignore him. Not to be booed or applauded. Pretty much. Don't think he was here long enough or was an important enough player to get any noteworthy reception either way, really. Few shouts of "Leicester reject" maybe if the crowd get bored?
The Doctor Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 they'll ignore him, paticularly with hume being at preston, he'll get all the attention for the preston players
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Pretty much. Don't think he was here long enough or was an important enough player to get any noteworthy reception either way, really. Few shouts of "Leicester reject" maybe if the crowd get bored? I think you should look at our defensive capabilities so far this season & realise that Brown was more important than you think.
Finnegan Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 I think you'd be an idiot to take Wayne Brown over Curtis Davies and given time to gel and fit in with his new team-mates most people will agree. Brown was as limited as he was capable, he had good games and then had games where the like of Rob Earnshaw made him look Sunday League. Don't get carried away, Pearson, Shakespeare and Walsh were a far bigger loss to our back four than Brown.

Few shouts of "Leicester reject" maybe if the crowd get bored? I agree. Athough I am a bit narked at the disruption he caused so close to that first leg. How different things could've been if we'd been a bit better that day...
Thracian Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Can't imagine he'll give a shit what reception he gets. He doesn't strike me as the sort to have feelings of any kind. No-one criticised his passing more than me and I still cringe at the sight of him on the ball and the thought of where the sodding thing might end up. But we've missed the bloke immensely, so has Hobbs and so has the club given the mostly pathetic return we've had from this season's signings so far.

Don't get carried away, Pearson, Shakespeare and Walsh were a far bigger loss to our back four than Brown. You're right. Pearson smothered them with the insurance of King and a defence-capable wide midfielder - to the detriment of our attacking ability, whereas his successors have expected them to mostly get by on their own, to their cost, demonstably with the pushing forward of King. Truth is the ex-Pearson defenders are mostly too slow and cumbersome on the ball. It was only a matter of time before they got found out and that time came when Sousa tried to get them playing football. Sousa took all the rap for our lousy start despite Hobbs being way below his best - as he still is - despite Berner never looking fully fit, despite Morrison's inconsistency, despite Neilson's improved but barely adequate contribution and despite the fact that Weale was injured. Pearson never had a genuinely solid defence. It was an illusion exposed only by our low-scoring. Fans conveniently turned on the admittedly naive Sousa. But Sousa's big mistake was being daft enough to think those defenders could cope on their own and without protection in front of them. Never a chance and especially against pace and fast passing.
marbelladave Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Difficult call... I was a very stern criic (polite phrasing) of Browns performances last season but as a person who preferes to judge a player on his performances on the pitch, I am hard pushed to recall a game when he gave less than 100%. For me that is a big thing. The nonsense in the dressing room after the election is very hard to take, but we have no idea of the context in which it was made and have little idea if the comments were truly offensive or simply a bad joke in poor taste. In a climate that sees fans sing racist songs at one of our own players, I wonder if an honest reaction to his return is even possible, I smell a a whiff of hipocrisy in the air.
body102 Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 I am not saying we need wayne brown back , but we could sure do with a big hard bastard of a centre back who takes no shit .If you could roll Brown , Taggart and Walsh int one person that would be ideal . I want a defender who , if unsure will put it into row z , very few goal are scored from throwins (unless you are stoke of course)
Finnegan Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Sousa took all the rap for our lousy start despite Hobbs being way below his best - as he still is - despite Berner never looking fully fit, depsite Morrison's inconsistency, despite Neilson's improved but barely adequate contribution I would suggest that those things, collectively, are why Sousa took the blame and not a reason why he shouldn't have. And I like how you manage to somehow credit Andy King with our entire season's mean defensive record. Good work.
Wymsey Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 I bet BlueBrett will be cheering the loudest whilst i am not bothering what type of reception he gets as he is not playing for us. He was consistant for us and we miss his leadership and communication in defence.
Thracian Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 IAnd I like how you manage to somehow credit Andy King with our entire season's mean defensive record. Good work. I didn't - I also mentioned a defence-minded wide midfielder, whoever it happened to be at the time.
Geordie Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 He'll be mocked, laughed at and booed all because of his woeful free kick at Hillsborough last season which to this day is the most inept phase of football in the professional games history.
Koke Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 We sure did miss him in the play-off games against Cardiff. At least we knew what we would get from him - Alex Bruce was unpredictable.

ajthefox Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 I wish people would stop going back to the play-off game as if Brown was this absolute beast who no doubt would've stopped Cardiff scoring. I know that's not what you've said and this isn't a dig at you personally, but some of the posts on here with regards to the play-offs are pure speculation. We never know what might have happened if Brown played, it could've been better or he could've made a calamitous error and we could have lost it in the first leg. I remember Bruce making one massive block/tackle towards the end of one of the matches, would Brown have been in the same position/done the same thing? Probably not. Point is looking back and saying this MIGHT have happened is just silly. That aside, I think Browns reception on saturday will be pretty mixed. A few boos and maybe cheers here and there but I don't see too much happening. He won't care anyways.
lcfcadam Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Can't imagine he'll give a shit what reception he gets. Not too sure about that, he did give us the finger after Derby away last season and we weren't even moaning that much!
okie fox Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 they'll ignore him, paticularly with hume being at preston, he'll get all the attention for the preston players Hume may be back at Barnsley by Saturday -- see http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_6465306,00.html
syston_fox Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Won't clap or boo him, don't see the point. 13,000 posts and you still haven't shifted from that fence you're sitting on.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 If he hadnt of left the way he did (with the BNP controversy) I'd give him a bit of a cheer, as although not really appreciated at the time he was a good player for us, a great leader a the back and you just need to see how many goals we have let in this season to see we have missed him. Though I will neither cheer or boo.
