Thracian Posted 30 December 2010 Posted 30 December 2010 Just noticed a lot of new chatter about Parker on twitter and on the net with us mentioned. I'm on my phone, anyone fancy tracking the dutch articles down and translating them? Look forward to news with interest. From the clips I've seen he's about the best prospect we've been associated with who we've a reasonable chance of getting.
mmarkie Posted 30 December 2010 Posted 30 December 2010 Basically says that Twente will certainly not loan him out, and now Leicester are considering whether to buy him or not.

Thracian Posted 30 December 2010 Posted 30 December 2010 Having watched Bednar i can't imagine why we'd have a problem! At least from a footballing point of view.
mmarkie Posted 30 December 2010 Posted 30 December 2010 No worries mate, not sure if we'll sign him or not as Sven said he'd only be a good enough for the bench. I like the guy to be honest and would be happy to see him sign.

hackneyfox Posted 30 December 2010 Posted 30 December 2010 If Sven thinks he's only good enough for the bench then he's either shit or Sven has some good strikers coming in.

We need 1st teamers, we've got plenty of people good enough for the bench You need to sign people who improve your team not just bloat it & ruin what little spirit remains causing further unrest in the squad
Thracian Posted 2 January 2011 Posted 2 January 2011 We need 1st teamers, we've got plenty of people good enough for the bench You need to sign people who improve your team not just bloat it & ruin what little spirit remains causing further unrest in the squad Unless those clips are faked that lad will score goals in the Champoionship, no trouble. People keep saying how good the league is but most of the defenders look like donkeys to me. Half the time they're made to look good by the lack of commitment to real attack. Look at us yesterday. Yes, it was a vitally important win but we never really looked liked building on that first goal - apart from Dyer's chance. We were largely determined to hold what we had. Okay, in all the circumstances I understand and accept that. Like everyone else I was just as happy for us to win ugly as any other way. But my point still stands. We've got no idea how to really attack - and we're not the only ones.Perhaps there's just too much fear. Look at Holloway this season. Seven or eight Blackpool players in the box against Chelsea and it's been the same all season. He never did that with us. Burnley away was Holloway signature at Leicester - when we fielded eight defensive players and never had any hope of attacking. Well, he's sure learned his lesson and while he may take a knock on occasions he's given Blackpool a chance they never expected. And if we're ever to do the same people like Bernard Parker are just the sort who might help us. Fast off the mark, quick feet, doesn't delay in taking his chances, forever in or near the box, balanced when he shoots - hell, the bloke's a diamond compared to the mosonite that is Bednar or the sadly-fading Howard . Vassell is another such player. Impish, difficult to mark and to contain but not, it seems, for a full 90 minutes. How refreshing it was that we ditched the attacking heavyweights yesterday and were able to show a bit of urgency. I'm not altogether against big strikers but they've got to have some pace, control and mobility. Even then there needs to be fast, livewire predators around them. If Sven's got better than Parker lined up then top marks to him, I'll be delighted. But loanees like Bednar don't help to convince me.
Finnegan Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 As exciting as I found the prospect of Parker, you can't really tell by a few youtube videos. Especially youtube videos of him playing against shit countries and teams in the Eredivise - it's a diabolical league, the obvious teams aside. Regardless of your scepticism for our managers, Sven had him at the club and was actually watching him play and train - if he didn't think he was going to put him in his starting line up what's the point in bringing him in? I doubt he'd be cheap. I'm sure he's still an option if no-one else can be found.
Stevosevic Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 http://www.sowetanlive.co.za/sport/2011/01/03/parker-on-his-way-to-leicester Parker on his way to Leicester 03 Jan 2011 | Ramatsiyi Moholoa | 1 comments BAFANA Bafana striker Bernard Parker, pictured, is set to join England Championship side Leicester City today where he is hoping to get regular game time. Share Parker impressed coach Sven-Goran Eriksson during trials last month. Parker, who is now on the books of FC Twente where he has been inactive, was recommended to Leicester by his former coach at Thanda Royal Zulu Johan Eriksson, son of the former England coach. The board of Leicester meets today when Eriksson will ask them to sign Parker on. Parker won the Dutch league gold medal with Twente despite not playing last season He could not be reached for comment. Meanwhile Scottish giants Celtic have expressed interest in Benni McCarthy whose weight problems saw him warm the bench at West Ham United. Still in England, Steven Pienaar is tipped to join Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur where compatriot Bongani "Model C" Khumalo could become his teammate. Former England captain David Beckham is also keen to join Spurs on loan. Pienaar, who is apparently not happy with the new offer from Everton, will walk away from the side guided by David Moyes on a free transfer in June. Khumalo is leaving for England this week to start his new soccer career with Hotspur where another South African, Mbulelo "Old John" Mabizela once played. Ironically, Mabizela has signed a pre-contract agreement with SuperSport United to fill the gap created by the departure of Khumalo. Following the arrival of experienced goalie Rowen Fernandez, United are also chasing Botswana international Mogogi Gabonamong of Santos. Another player expected to join them is Nkosinathi Nhleko of Kaizer Chiefs. Edward Williams is also heading back to United from Platinum Stars. Despite repeated denials, Sowetan has it on good authority that Mamelodi Sundowns are courting Anthony Laffor, who has applied for a South African residence permit. Still in Gauteng, Orlando Pirates midfielder Gert Schalkwyk could join Mpumalanga Black Aces, while the almost forgotten Delron Buckley has joined relegation-threatened Karlsruher in Germany. Russian-based MacBeth Sibaya is still weighing up his options after informing Rubin Kazan he wanted to play elsewhere after spending eight years with the club

I doubt he'd be cheap. I'm sure he's still an option if no-one else can be found. I share some of your reservations. Like the exagerration likely to be conveyed by film clips, about the level of football he's playing and also about the reasons for his sitting around at Twente. But I didn't watch his goals so much as his technique, instinct for goal and how difficult it might be to mark him. For me the guy showed real talent. However, and to show my consistency on this issue, I'd like Sven to get him fully fit, fully integrated and introduce him to the side gradually. We do ourselves and the players no favours by bringing people in too soon. Abe, Bednar, Kirkland....none of them were ready.
STUHILL Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 Stringer's twitter says this is looking likely Stringer just uses same links as us. I used to think he had inside knowledge but surprisingly he really doesn't! Hope he does sign though. I think him and Bamba are potential flop signings butttttt they could also turn out to be stars for us! Have to take these kind of risks when we can't just buy in Prem quality players

Whether parker is the answer to the fact our strikers don't know how to score is a different matter
MPH Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 Not always as it seems, he does genuinely seem to get information tweeted before its released on the wires. Whether parker is the answer to the fact our strikers don't know how to score is a different matter He's probably just a replacement for Fryatt. Cheaper wages, relatively low fee... moving the funds elsewhere for a big signing
bjblyth Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 Judging by one of the YouTube vids I think he's simply a replacement for Kyle Naughton... ...on a goal celebration basis
bjblyth Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 Looks like this is pretty much a done deal. Got a link mate?
Jackirius Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 Got a link mate? Just from the interview with Sven, a few hints Stringer has dropped etc.
m00nie Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 did sven say in the next few days he should be here?? didnt catch it poroperly but thought thats what he was saying
Bausor Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 parker should sign within the next 2 - 3 days, sven post match interview
