Bob Weasel Fox Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 a la la la la la BAMBA is going to be awesome (i think, i hope)
Walshy5 Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 What does concern me about having all these defenders is does this mean the end for Jack Hobbs? I hope not!
Leicester_Loyal Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 Who said Bamba will be starting today? It says on BBC Sport the only person making their debut in the squad is Ben Mee.
wolfgang amadeus Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 I hope he doesn't start sub, I don't want sven signing squad players who need to break into the team. I want him to sign players who are better than the current crop and with the money we've got at the minute that's what we should be looking at.
Kingfisher Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 Sol Bamba will turn out to be your bargain of the season. He played in every world cup qualifier for Ivory Coast before an injury kept him out. He is fast, strong, skillful and fearless. He always plays better with good players around him. He is a genuine guy with a great character and personality. Off the field he was a tremendous supporter of local charities and even showed up at Dunfermline ( my team ) his former team collecting for Haiti earthquake disaster even though he had moved on to play for Hibs. Sven has over the years had the knack of turning good players into great players and ive no doubt he will get the best out of Bamba ... Pay no attention to Hibs fans reports they are always sad losers .
Hibernian Fan Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 Al-aLondon-Foxile - Old Firm games are almost always terrible. I am not boasting but usually it is us that plays the good football, not lately though..... Is he playing today guys? I am now a Leicester City fan Behind Hibs and Liverpool though (Starting a season on footie manager with City, £8m to spend!) Glad to see that you's seem to be taking to him a bit more over the course of this thread. Just like the Millwall forum earlier in the year (for a totally different reason), there are a fair few Hibee's on here, and Dunfie fans. Millwall fans seemed like scum compared to you's, not very friendly posters down there.... @Kingfisher, it may be so, but Dunfie fans are more used to losing
david9640 - pars fan Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 I watched first half of the rangers v Celtic game yesterday & tho it was frantic it was no better than park football in terms of skill. I hope this guy works out for us, but I also hope he doesn't think he can dribble out of his own 18yard box and take players on in the english championship. IMO we have good defenders at the club, what we lost & haven't replaced is Wayne Brown, a leader/organiser, & until we do (on a perminent basis) and settle the positions down and choose a consistant starting back line we will continue to look fragile. I hope this guy is gonna do a good job but I dont think he is up to this level. You were watching an OLD FIRM match they are always scrappy because of the competition between the sides. I think your opinion of Scottish football is completely wrong and based on watching a few minutes of a football match. Scottish football is completely different to English football it is much faster. If you can't think on your feet you will be punished whereas watching championship games the matches seem to be played at a low pace, with players getting lots of time on the ball. In the past week I have watched 3 championship games on sky and every team lobbed the ball forward, weather it be to the strikers or to the wingers. SPL teams are as good as teams in the Championship... EVERY season scottish teams get good results against premiership or Championship opposition, examples below... (couldn't find website with this seasons friendlies) Last season Dunfermline (Scottish first division)beat Coventry City 1:0 Last season Celtic beat Totenham 2:0 Last season Dundee United drew 1:1 with Newcastle Last season Hearts Drew with Bolton Last season Blackburn Drew with Hibs 0:0 Last season Rangers Beat Man City 3:2 Last season Dundee United beat Blackburn 2:0 Last Season Sunderland Drew with Hearts 1:1 Last Season Preston lost 3:1 to Hamilton Last Season Burnley lost 1:0 to St.Johnstone Last season Aberdeen beat Hull City 1:0 SOURCE: http://fitbadaft.blogspot.com/2009/03/scottish-pre-season-friendly-fixtures.html The result: playing in Scotland should prepare him for the slower paced English game. He will have more time on the ball so his ability to pick a pass will also come through.
david9640 - pars fan Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 "Dunfie fans are more used to losing" We have won more games than you this season so you are actually "more used to losing" We are also playing better football, you used to play good football but now Colin Calderwood has got you lobbing the ball to the striker(s) whereas we keep the ball on the ground
MikeyT Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 We're gonna score from a corner, score from a coooorner... We did. Who needs Bamba
wolfgang amadeus Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 You can't use pre season friendlies as examples for how good the scottish league is. I've watched the scottish league for the last two years and watched leicester for 10 or so years. I'd say the spl is a similar standard league to the Championship but the bottom teams in the SPL would be well below the standard down here. I've been to a few games in Scotland between the top few teams and I've not seen too many signs of quality outside Celtic/Rangers/Hearts/Dundee/Hibs (The last two being last season.) I'd say the Championship is better for players and more of the top players in the Premiership will have come from here than from the SPL.
STUHILL Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 Just starting to wonder if Bamba has been brought in to play Defensive Midfield, as it seems if Sven is indeed trying to keep Davies on loan and with the signing of Mee, along with what we already have, Hobbs, Morrison, Vitor, Tunchev, then we potentially have 7 CB's fighting for 2 places! Hibs fans talked about him doing well in DM role, maybe Sven has brought him in to add more steal to our Midfield. Abe for all his hard work, is still rather light weight in this position. Could be way off, but just a thought!
jonw88 Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 I'm not sure I'd be that happy with Bamba coming straight into the team, whose place would he take? Morrison and Hobbs seem to have got it sorted in the last couple of games, and I certainly wouldn't want to see Morrison leave for a small fee and replace him with someone who hasn't got any experience with our team or in this league when Morrison has been playing so well lately. He may still be learning but I think he'll become a really capable defender in a few years, he's in the John Terry kind of mould of defender and he's pretty good at set pieces too (as proven today with the second goal). I really wouldn't wanna see him go just to be replaced by the unknown quantity of Bamba.

Could be way off, but just a thought! I've wondered this as well. Having a real athlete in there would certainly toughen up the spine of the team and with also being linked with Isiah Osbourne (although probably by his agent to be fair!) it could be the kind of player Sven wants to sit in there.
ScouseFox Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 With Mee and Vitor only being on loan, Davies looking like he won't be back, Tunchev been injured for 2 years, Morrison supposedly on his way to Wednesday, that leaves us with one centre back if you look at it the other way...
The Doctor Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 Where are all these Scottish footie lads coming from? scotland?
Leicester_Loyal Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 scotland? Jesus we've got Sherlock Holmes browsing these forums as well.
Jacnah Posted 3 January 2011 Posted 3 January 2011 With Mee and Vitor only being on loan, Davies looking like he won't be back, Tunchev been injured for 2 years, Morrison supposedly on his way to Wednesday, that leaves us with one centre back if you look at it the other way... This seems, to me at least, the more accurate way of looking at it. I think we really need a big fast skillful beast in midfield..I'm not sure how that would be accommodated and who would lose out (assuming this guy cuts the mustard)..what i dont want to see is Hobbs being ousted for somebody not really any better
cc_star Posted 4 January 2011 Posted 4 January 2011 Can't see him coming into a winning team, & Mee won't be able to face his own club meaning Hobbs & Morrison should have one more game to set their stall out
breadandcheese Posted 4 January 2011 Posted 4 January 2011 With such mixed reviews of Bamba, I'm not sure it's worth signing him.
Babylon Posted 4 January 2011 Posted 4 January 2011 With such mixed reviews of Bamba, I'm not sure it's worth signing him. Bit late now!!! Don't read too much into it, lots of players have mixed reviews. I'm sure Blackpool were concerned when they got DJ from us going off our reviews.

Hopefully I'll be singing la la la la bamba like a maniac.

MikeyT Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Hibs boss Colin Calderwood has admitted the deal to sell Sol Bamba to Leicester was too good to refuse in view of the fact the defender's spell at the club was nearing an end. The 25-year-old completed a reported £250,000 switch to Leicester on Sunday to be reunited with his former Ivory Coast manager, Sven Goran Eriksson. Bamba looked set to leave the club when his contract expired in the summer and Calderwood will now be handed funds to reshape his squad in January. Calderwood told Hibs' official website: "Sol's transfer happened very quickly. We had an offer and we came to an agreement with the club. "It was an opportunity with the situation - Sol's contract was running down - for a good deal for the club. "We wish Sol all the very best and we hope he continues to be successful. A terrific move for him but also a good move for ourselves because it was a good bit of business."

I was just joking, calm down, and you obviously have not watched us because we have not actually launched it up as much as other teams.
