cc_star Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 So, Charlie Austin has 31 goals in 50 games and is only 21? I've not heard of him but those are pretty good stats, surely a better bet than a Prem star on a downward trajectory? Especially if you take wages & transfer fees into account. Surely its worth further investigation, at the very least?
BigBawsFaeTheShaws Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 I'd do more of a job than bednar! Sign him up! Sign him up! Sign him up!

I dare say he wouldn't cost the earth to buy and wouldn't want astronomical wages, a fairly low risk gamble with a potentially massive pay-off. He certainly looked good against Charlton the other night as well, good finisher and caused them all sorts of problems.
Finnegan Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 You probably are. It always amazed me he got a pro contract. Would you settle for 'Louis Dodds with pace?'
Bellend Sebastian Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 I'd do more of a job than bednar! I'd do more of a job than Bednar, and I can barely stand up. You're selling yourself short

Bugg Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Not forgetting the 46 goals in 46 games for Poole Town in 2008/2009. It was actually 48 goals in 46 games
Babylon Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 It was actually 48 goals in 46 games You had better have a word with Swindon then as it came off their OS!!!!

Cheese Me Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Bert mentioned a while back to SGE was in talks about Michael Owen. Did anything come of that or was it a none starter?
Edmund Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Spurs just recalled Walker from QPR so my bet is QPR will now want Naughton. Unfortunately so. They've had him watched by their scouts along with Leeds.
Simmo86 Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Just to clarify, Is Naughton still on loan with us or has it ended now?
Gazza M Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 I think one signing will be a new centre forward and the second, hopefully Kyle Naughton. I believe we will cough up the cash for Naughton before Sunday's game against Man City and I'm sure we would be his number one choice. Therefore I don't see anyone else knicking him at the eleventh hour. I don't think we will go for Bernard Parker. Why agree a fee but then not sign him straight the way? I think Sven wants a named Striker, hence the Yakubu link. I don't see it personally. He seems to want a target man with pace, a difficult combination to find. I think that Sven is waiting on the availabilty of Curtis Davies. If he comes back I think it will be the end of Michael Morrison, who will probably spearhead Shef Wed defence in League 1. Personally I think Davies is overated and would prefer that we let him stay at Villa and kept Morrison. I don't blame Bruno Berner for wanting to leave. He was draughted back in as Cunnigham was injured. Sven obviously wanted Bruno as a back up in case this happened, but at Bruno's age, a back up role is no good. He wants to be playing. Berner can have that again now until the end of the season, but I think it would be uncomfortable playing for a manager who thought you were back up material. Personally I think Sven will convince him to stay on until the end of the season, but I would expect Berner to walk away after that. I think Sven should be concentrating on getting rid of some dead wood in the squad. I honestly don't want Vitor to stay. He's injury prone and not that good. Send him back where he came from! Michael Lamey should also be shown the door. He is dreadful!

Swalker Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Anyone else hear that Spurs have said Keane can leave on a permanent deal? He wanted a permanent deal and not a loan didn't he?
Kitchandro Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Wonder if its Harry just playing a bit of brinkmanship with us, kind of getting us to pony up some more cash No one wheels & deals like harry Don't say that to his face
MrSpaM Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Anyone else hear that Spurs have said Keane can leave on a permanent deal? He wanted a permanent deal and not a loan didn't he? Pretty sure he said he wouldnt join a championship side the last time we tried. Might have a better chance getting him on a permanent though Wonder if its Harry just playing a bit of brinkmanship with us, kind of getting us to pony up some more cash He probably noticed how much we paid for Waghorn, so he knows he can get a ridiculously inflated price off us.
Kitchandro Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Most people seem to think he's unfit and overweight, including Everton supporters. Really not sure about this one, having seen Bednars few games with us i'm really against us getting in players that arnt fit enough to play at this level. I agree, for the last 2 years he's looked shit, and seems to show even less effort than Bednar. Not interested myself. Besides, maybe Vassell will turn out to be a great goalscorer at this level? Not saying we shouldn't sign a striker though.
Finnegan Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 We should DEFINITELY sign another goalscorer. I've been saying that for about three years.
cc_star Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 We should DEFINITELY sign another goalscorer. I've been saying that for about three years. Waghorn says hi, although even he probably needs a big man alongside him
Kitchandro Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Why do people say 'at his age Berner can't afford to be back up'? At his age he can't play 2 games in a row, that's why he's been back up. I do want him to stay though, when he's fit he's a very good left back at this level, and better at defending than Cunningham even if he wasn't injured.
