cairnsy Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 He averaged 8 goals a season at championship level - pretty poor
Thracian Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 Loving these quotes from Pearson upon signing Fryatt: "Matty's goalscoring record is pretty good," Pearson told the club's official website... "He will give us a slightly different dimension and along with Jay Simpson, who has been in quite good form of late, that gives us some good options." "We've also got Cameron Stewart, who has been playing through the middle in recent games, Nick Barmby, Mark Cullen and Richard Garcia when he's fit." So, not exactly blown away then, eh Nigel!??? His scoring is only 'pretty good'. The dimension he apparantly adds is only 'slightly' different from the existing one, and he'll be 6th choice sytriker behind Cameron Stewart played out of position, a 54 year old Nicky Barmby who hasnt been a striker since 1991, Jay Simpson who is only described as 'quite good', Mark Cullen who even Mark Cullen hasnt heard of, and a half fit Richard Garcia..... Nigel Pearson - better manager than salesman I'm guessing!!!.... Pearson's sensibly saying that he's pleased with the depth of his striking options but doesn't want to put unnecessary pressure on them or risk a silly comment that might blow up in his face. I quite like it in the guy. He's a players' manager (his players of course) and his comments fit that outlook. It just disappointed me that he never seemed to act as a fans manager as well, involving them in what was going on and trying to provide some entertainment and excitement along with collecting points. But the's still learning and as far as Fryatt is concerned he's got a sound buy for Hull. Guaranteed goals and plenty of years of potential value, in him. As for missing Fryatt, I don't. I wish him the very best but he's the limited player I've described, I think we'll need better to get us up and wouldn't see him as Premiership class at all. I know Vassell is getting on now but if I try to imagine marking him or Fryatt I know who'd be most comfortable. Fryatt would never get you for speed or strength and if you turned him onto his left foot you'd have pretty much neutralised the lad. Vassell, would be a real handful. Slippery, you'd never know if he was going to pass and move or attack you head on, whether he was going to hit a half chance first time or take a touch, he'd be hard to shift off the ball, so many things ... he'd be a bloody nightmare to contain. For me the only question mark over Vassell is whether he'll stay fit and keep putting in the sort of effort we saw against Swansea. At his best the guy's a genuinely good player.
The Doctor Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 i'm slightly worried about how much i'm agreeing with what thraician has been posting of late.
Babylon Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 i'm slightly worried about how much i'm agreeing with what thraician has been posting of late. You're the third person to say that. He's either toned it down a bit or we have all been brain washed
BaddaBaddadaBAMBA Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 Missing matty fryatt, he was about as much use as a nuns tits! Bring in old Leon Best!
Christoph Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 Selling our only natural goalscorer...well probably something i would have preffered to have waited until we got another one in place
Shipman Out Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 Teddy bear hair Fryatt is far from missed, im glad he's gone
Houdini Logic Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 Missing matty fryatt, he was about as much use as a nuns tits! You rate him as heavenly? Personally I thought he was a bit crap
leicester4life Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 Natural goalscorer? Never. 117 games, 24 goals at Championship level. 46 games, 27 goals in League 1. Maybe he is a natural goalscorer, just not at this level.

Guest BlueBrett Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 I can only assume that half of the people in this thread went out during the League One season and got life-size Matty Fryatt heads tattooed on their bellies, hence their displeasure at his departure. It surely can't be for footballing reasons? I always liked the way he came across in interviews and he was a decent servant to the club but he was a very average player. I suspect he will do fairly well for Hull but then I expect that Hull will be a slightly above average Championship side for the foreseeable future. Anyway all the best to him and Nige. But haven't you heard? We are Leicester City and we are going places. Fryatt was never going to be the one to lead the way.
CosbehFox Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 Selling our only natural goalscorer Interesting considering Waghorn scored the same amount last season.

Maybe he is a natural goalscorer, just not at this level. Don't understand the "gone, so he's shit brigade" Figures are nothing without context! He was a key player at a time when another 8 to 10 players were woefully not good enough, and came into his own as the team improved around him, or more importantly we got a manager who added structure to the team. This season he wasn't great, but neither was the team at the time - I fail to see what more he could have done during our early season abysmal-ness He served us well, didn't get a chance under the present administration which is perhaps a shame, but he has gone and its onwards & upwards now
Lovejoy Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 Fryatt did a good job for us for a season and a half, but his time here was up. Pleased he scored for Hull at the weekend, but won't miss him.
renards Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 Mrs Fryatt The ball boys The physio Row A on each corner The people on the half way line who received his last two passes of note.
Mack Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 In my opinion it was the change of system from the summer onwards that did Fryatt in here. The lone striker role does not suit him and his style of play and need for regular quality through ball, although more recently with Vassell through the middle that supply has improved. Much as many of us acknowledge that he was more than good enough to play that role, and needed backing by Sven and being given starts, Sven does'nt see it that way, and as he is running the team that's what matters. Fryatt will score plenty of goals elsewhere, good luck to him but he is no longer an LCFC player so I could'nt give a shit frankly.
hackneyfox Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 Why I don't believe that there has been a player,m since DJ, that has divided opinion so much on here. Another love fest over, can we move on please. Morrison goes today, just Weale & Berner to go and so many on here will need to get some new facebook friends.
whitlock Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 No, Darius has stepped up to the plate so far. Whitlock likes this comment
leicester4life Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 You could read into that that under the right manager and with the right players he is a proven goalscorer More likely, that he's a proven goalscorer when the opposition is shite. Don't understand the "gone, so he's shit brigade" Figures are nothing without context! The figures speak for themselves, he's a good League 1 forward, nothing more. He's never been great, constantly missing sitters and fluffing it. You'd always put your money on him to miss when he was through 1v1.
Zingari Posted 6 January 2011 Posted 6 January 2011 No, Darius has stepped up to the plate so far. Matty's problem was that he stepped up to too many plates
