tazmancblue Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Hi guys, A man city fan here asking for your patience tomorrow. You may know that a former City player, Neil Young, is suffering from cancer. He scored in the FA Cup final between our teams. As City were wearing Red and Black on the day, we have been given red and black scarves to celebrate him. As part of this, I am arranging City fans to do what we call the Poznan on the 24th minute, when he scored that day. We shall turn around and bounce up and down with our scarves. It will look like a sea of red and black and we are hping he will be watching and see it and it aids his battle. Therefore, may I ask that you do not sing obscenities at us when we do it, as i'm sure you will understand the reasoning behind it. Many thanks in advance.
skinnydipper Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Nice idea But where I sit in the West Stand we won't be singing even if we're winning by 5

I think almost everyone knows hat the scarves are about but I wouldn't count on people knowing wht this "poznan" is. If 5000 of you do that though I'll be very impressed!
Ashley Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Great idea mate. Look forward to seeing it done. I posted on here a new topic about Manchester City fans being given scarfs by the club, its a nice gesture. Do you have anyone going round with buckets tomorrow for a donation to the cause?
Guest Bilo Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 It's basically the one where the fans turn their backs to the pitch and jump up and down for a minute or two. MCFC fans call it the Poznan but it's more widely known as 'the grecque.' Great sentiment by the way.
body102 Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 I want leicester to smash a few past man city tomorrow , just not in the 24th minute , would be a shame to spoil the poznan
Wymsey Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Surely jumping up and down is against the health and safety rules of the Stadium?
stockyfox Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 A nice gesture which I sincerely hope that all Foxes fans will respect. I have taken the liberty of copying your posting and put it on a couple of other message boards so that fans know what is going on. Hope that's ok!
mikey54 Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Sad news. A class player who deserved international recognition - though he broke my heart on that day back in 69. I doubt a majority of Leicester fans will understand whats going on. All the very best to him
tazmancblue Posted 8 January 2011 Author Posted 8 January 2011 Thank you very much for your responses and posting it on other forums etc. Football pales into insignificance at this time. Apparently, City wanted to do a collection or sell the scarves on the day but it breaches charity rules!!! Rules get in the way of most things nowadays!!! Once more, cheers.
Haydos Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Cracking gesture, hope it all goes to plan and looking forward to seeing it. 5-0, we're gonna win 5-0!
MattyFromLE Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Amazing gesture, one i hope the city faithful will not ruin.
body102 Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Amazing gesture, one i hope the city faithful will not ruin. or leicester by scoring in the 24th minute
The Year Of The Fox Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Great gesture. Wish you all the best with it. All you get from me will be from me is a round of applause. In fact, perhaps all the Leicester fans should give a standing ovation on the 24th minute?! It may be the only chance we have to clap!
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Great gesture, i too hope it is respected by our fans - good luck and i hope you raise lots of money for him
Finnegan Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Posting what you're doing on a few websites won't really get the majority of city fans to know what's going on. I'm sure most will just watch on somewhat bemused anyway - why would you get obscenities?

I'm sure most will just watch on somewhat bemused anyway - why would you get obscenities? Very fair point, but short of emailing Radio Leicester, what else can he do? As for the obscenties bit, its usual for any away fans to have the mick taking out of them regardless of what they do. Take Cardiff with their head tapping thing as an example
Bryn Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 In reverse, you could be asked by attending Leicester fans not to get too uppity when inevitably some Leicester fans take the piss, as home fans do with away fans, because they probably won't mean any disrespect to Neil Young. Just to you lot
tazmancblue Posted 8 January 2011 Author Posted 8 January 2011 WOOOOOT THE FOOK, WOOOOOT THE FOOK, WOOOOOT THE FOOKIN ELL IS THAT?!?!?!?! Exactly, that was my concern and hence my request. Here is a post from a City fan who is friends with Neil's family from my thread on our forum:- Just had a conversation with Carmen Young. Neil was rushed in this morning due to some infection. He has been given a full blood transfusion and placed in an isolation room as precautionary measure. He expects to be released on Monday. He has not eaten for about 10 days. He is being pumped full of anti biotics etc and it's thought these will help considerably. Carmen has read the last batch of letters and cards to him which helped them both so please keep them coming. I've given Carmen all the news about the scarves' date=' Poznan etc. This stopped all the tears and cheered her up no end. She doesn't have the channel at home so is hoping to get someone to tape it for her. I've described the Poznan to her and she looks forward to seeing it. She says that when Neil comes home on Monday and is hopefully able to watch the recording it will be good for him. Neil had been hoping to see the match live but did not know it was on a funny channel. DO THE POZNAN AND WAVE THE RED & BLACK FOR NELLY. Alex the Blue[/quote']
AlphaMaleFox Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 WOOOOOT THE FOOK, WOOOOOT THE FOOK, WOOOOOT THE FOOKIN ELL IS THAT?!?!?!?! This?
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Could all fans join in a 'there's only one Neil Young' in the 26th minute as well? True, probably too late to organise and I'm sure some people would think the chant was about the singer.
stockyfox Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 On a point of accuracy, I always had it in my mind that Neil Young's goal was scored in the 23rd minute. As some of you will know, I have a substantial collection of programmes, other memorabilia, newspaper cuttings and indeed complete newspapers. So I've checked and discovered: The 'Sports Mercury Special Cup Final Edition says 23 minutes, The 'Sunday People' also says 23 minutes, The'Sunday Express' however gives 24 minutes, The 'Manchester Evening News' also says 24 minutes, Whereas the 'Sunday Telegraph' firmly states 21 minutes. Other statistics: Goal Attempts: Man City 16 (scored 1, 6 saved, 7 wide / high, 1 blocked, 1 1 deflected) Foxes 13 (3 saved, 8 wide / high, 1 deflected) Corners: Man C. 9, Foxes 5 Fouls: Man C. 10, Foxes 14 Offside: Both 4 Throw-Ins: Both 22 Official Man of the Match (1st time ever awarded - Allan Clarke -Leicester City) Yes I know, I need to get out more!
