Jimmy2Drags Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 Gallagher looks like a different player since Sven took over. More tracking back, closing players down quicker, set pieces more consistent & looks much more assured on the ball. I don't mind admitting that earlier this season I wanted him to 'do one' - Thought he was a waste of time & effort cos he only turned it on when he wanted to (which seemed very few & far between) Do you think Sven has had a little word or do you think Gally's trying harder to impress him cos he's a legend (and might have been replaced in the transfer window)
StanSP Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 Always had faith in him. I knew he would come good sooner or later and I still believe the stick he was getting earlier on in the season was unwarranted, especially when there were worse players in the squad. Plus, he won me a few quid last night so cheers for that
Ric Flair Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 The season Stoke got promoted, Gallagher was superb for them and he's now showing that for us. As soon as he went off last night I realised he might be our most important player alongside King right now.
marbelladave Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 Anyone now thinking that he is doing enough hard work and tracking back to get the gig in central midfield? Personally I think he has been ready for some time, give him the advanced 'playmaker' role with two from Wellens, King and Abe deeper but in support. Allows us to go with pace on both flanks, Dyer and Vassell supporting the Yak...
Tommy G Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 He's been really good for about a month now. Still can't head the ball for shit but everyone has their flaws. We lacked a bit when he limped off
okie fox Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 I think that Sven gave Gallagher some encouragement and made minor tactical adjustments that played to his strengths.
Ric Flair Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 He's been really good for about a month now. Still can't head the ball for shit but everyone has their flaws. We lacked a bit when he limped off Was it him who crashed a header against the bar/post against Preston? I about choked on my pad thai when I saw that, i'm sure it was him. Crazy.
ousefox Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 Still not his biggest fan, seems to be more up for the big games though and has performed well in those, but can still be very frustrating. Love his penalties though
Narborough_fox Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 My mate now takes peno's like him. I do love Gally
MrSpaM Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 It's blatently obvious Paul has a positive effect on our team when he's playing. When he first arrived i was very sceptical of him, but he's really starting to grow on me now. Think last night was a really good example of what happens when he's not playing, it took a long time for our team to adjust when he was taken off.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 When Gally went off last night I went Uh-Oh I Think he is our second best player behind king.
Legend_in_blue Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 The most technically gifted player in the squad. Simple as that.
Haydos Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 The most technically gifted player in the squad. Simple as that.
Haydos Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 Do you have someone else in mind? Nah, before xmas there were a few of us chatting about what this 'technically gifted' thing actually meant. It got banded about loads with people never really backing it up. 'He's a waste of space and his passing and shooting is shit but he's the most technically gifted player we have' etc...... It's just funny now he's playing well. Thas' all NB: I'm not knocking him
Haydos Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 . Edited? I dunno, i'm not even sure what it's being judged on any more. Like i said, loads of clueless people would just use it without really getting what it means. I think consistency of passing, shooting and dribbling play a part. So him or Wellens I suppose. We do lack technically gifted players though
WhenYourSmilingLCFC Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 Always rated Gallagher. Think hes a very good player with the ball, no so good without. Moussa didnt look too bad last night, but as with Waghorn, confidence is needed.
Adster Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 Edited? I dunno, i'm not even sure what it's being judged on any more. We do lack technically gifted players though Yeah mate, i saw that you someone else answer it, so i removed it Ahh that's a fair point, i think some people mean different things, weather it could be his ability of taking players on, or skill in general.
Christoph Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 He's definitely got better since Sven has came in and now his passes dont consist of going behind him any more.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 The most technically gifted player in the squad. Simple as that. Can you tell me what that actually means? I hear people saying this but i think its the most meaningless phrase I have ever heard. I think Gallagher could be a great player, btu he isnt physical enough and looks scared of attempting to win headers and get stuck in most of the time. Good from dead balls and has a good shot and cross, but could be so much better I think. Very frustrating player.
Jacnah Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 The season Stoke got promoted, Gallagher was superb for them and he's now showing that for us. As soon as he went off last night I realised he might be our most important player alongside King right now. I hadn't really looked at it like this, but that's a good shout!....although on the other hand that might be wellens who is also playing much better than a few months ago and is back to his best
marbelladave Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 For half an hour last night, Gallagher was comfortably our most effective player, it was demonstrably obvious. After he had to go off, our game fell apart, our creativity dissappeared, our set pieces lost their edge and our left flank lost all its solidity. He has been improving steadily since the Sousa debacle and he looks far fitter and determined than ever, even under Pearson. If he can continue in this vein and balance his attacking flair with his work rate, as he did last night, he will be our most important player by some distance...
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 Gallagher is a quality player but like any other player he is incosistent and has his down sides like his heading, lack of bit in the tackle (if any) and lack of tracking back, but on the plus side he takes a good free kick and corners and is a skilful player (whatever that means) and seems to have a good footballing brain (again whatever that means). Like or loathe him in short whilst he pulling on the Blue shirt of Leicester City lets all get behing him. up the Foxes
