callis Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Hi all i know a company who are dealing as the Quantity Surveyors / design team for the expansion of the east / ne corner stands to give an extra capacity for 2012/13 apparently. Not sure on the size though as we only do the external works on the structure but this is in tender stage so costs are being looked at.
Bryn Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 They'll have sit this in motion the minute they took over. As soon as we get promoted, they'll have it costed up and ready to roll out. Doubt it will happen before then though.
callis Posted 21 January 2011 Author Posted 21 January 2011 yes i agree but there there defo getting budget costs at present and its a fair size structure increase, not sure of seat numbers tho
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Great. I had always been under the impression that it was to be the West Stand that would be expanded first - if at all.
callis Posted 21 January 2011 Author Posted 21 January 2011 well so far its the east stand not to sure why but that the options there looking at.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 I know someone who helped build the stadium and he said its only one stand (east stand I think ) can be expanded due to the design apparantly!
h1210 Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Great. I had always been under the impression that it was to be the West Stand that would be expanded first - if at all. With all of the corporate boxes and big glass frontage!? I'm really surprised that the media haven't cottoned on to this yet, I've heard whispers from a number of sources now regarding the arena/stadium expansion in line with what has already been said on here.
Guest Bilo Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 I've always been led to believe that the East Stand was actually designed to have an extra tier built on top of it from the word go. Apparently it could be done fairly quickly as well at a fraction of the cost of rebuilding the stand as would need to be done elsewhere in the stadium.
thybluefox Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 With all of the corporate boxes and big glass frontage!? Yeah, it'd be a major load of work to build above the boxes, plus to a certain extent, the further up you go the further back you have to go, and there isn't the room on the west stand side due to the river/canal (practically, anyway). Yup, you're spot on mate, was built so the east stand could be extended.
callis Posted 21 January 2011 Author Posted 21 January 2011 yes there are a few structure improvements but tenders are only being drafted now, sounds a fair bit of steel needed though.
prestonfox Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 I understand it was designed with the ability to be upgraded to 40k. Positive from the owners. Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
Ashley Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 The east stand will be built on first, then the Kop and Family stand will be next if we ever reach the premier league and maintain a respectable position. IF Leicester would have been chosen for the World Cup the Walkers would of reached a capacity of 50,000+.

We should sue the FA for wasting our time with the world cup bid when the picked the likes of Plymouth and mk dons for expansion. no wonder they gave it to Russia they probably think Russia has more integrity.
Wymsey Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 I'm against this extension as we are no Leeds, ie, almost sell out every week nevermind the opposition they're playing and due to the location of the ground, the traffic will be terrible (on top of how really bad it is now especially after games)
davieG Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Could solve the standing next to away fans problem, sitters upstairs, standers downstairs and no need to swap the kop with the family end. Having said that surely any addition to the East Stand would mess up the away corner anyway?

I'd guess it would need some reconfiguration either way in order to have a larger away section for teams with bigger followings
Jackirius Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 We would never fill that, not even if we didn't have the Tigers. We would probably be hitting 30k each week in the premier league I reckon
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 I'm against this extension as we are no Leeds, ie, almost sell out every week nevermind the opposition they're playing and due to the location of the ground, the traffic will be terrible (on top of how really bad it is now especially after games) I agree to some extent. I think in terms of capacity the ground is about right now. Last time we were in the premiership in 03/04 I think we averaged about 30,000 at home & we sold out a few games. If we established ourselves in the premiership it might be worth looking into expanding capacity to 40,000 which I think is tha plan anyway. But I'd hate to see us rush into an expansion & then find ourselves back playing championship football getting 20,000 people in a 40,000 capacity stadium. There's nothing more depressing than a big, half-empty stadium & it would make half-decent numbers (21-22K a week in the championship is not bad) look shit due to the fact the ground would only be half full. Positive news generally though
callis Posted 21 January 2011 Author Posted 21 January 2011 agree agreed but the owners must have plans to be in the big time by 12/13 season. And this time in the PL we may have better players for fans to visit and watch. That may up the attendace a bit if were there in the next few seasons.
markbsac Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Build it and they will come! a mate of mine worked for the architects and build company of the stadium....east stand footings been dug to take another 10,000 seats...but only the east stand
Spudulike Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 If they go for more seats then ticket prices will need to be reduced if they are to be filled.
markbsac Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 surely this aint gonna happen until we are back in the prem
markbsac Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 love it as a previous poster siad "BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME".....
