Increase East Stand capacity

Problem is, expanded or not, ticket prices. I didnt go to Derby, here's why. 2 tickets £60+, collect son from Bournemouth, drive to leicester, take son back to Bournemouth, 400 mile round trip, £40+ in diesel. Couple of beers each around the ground, £12? Bit of food each, another tenner. Best part of £125 for an afternoon out for two people? Now, I've earned decent money in the past, but this is a lot of wedge for a footy match. And I haven't included the 400 miles wear 'n tear on the 'bus'. Bring back Filbo, me 'n girlfriends admission, gallon of petrol in the mini, cheeky beer on the way home, all for a quid!! Mind you, that was 1970 - I think!

As others have said, the ground would look better.

Really don't think we need the extra capacity though, even if we made it into the PL: Sunderland are a good example of a club profiting from the 'build it and they will come' attitude, although tickets up there were cheap when they started (they are still the cheapest club I think in the PL), and I can't see that happening at Leicester.

would look good IF it was full as it is at the moment, no point getting this until we are at capacity each week which means getting and staying in the prem.....do this too early and our ground will look like the riverside on the hi lights if you know what i mean!

Isn't our ground made so it can be expanded in the same way as the Stadium of Light?

Yes it would be. Its basically just building tower blocks, which would contain turnstiles, fire exits and stairs. If anyones been to old trafford and sat in the upper tiers you'll know what I mean. WHEN not IF we build on the ground it'll look like old trafford before the stretford end and the opposite goal end got built on I suppose.

I'd love this if we could do it to an end stand. I feel it would give that stand a bit of character.

TBF Sunderland usually get not much more than we did last time we were in the Prem and their ground is 47,000. Even against Chelsea they only got 40,000. But nobody takes the mick out of them as far as I know. An average of 34-35K in the Prem would be very achievable for us and we wouldn't really be a laughing stock with those crowds.

Things might be different this time, people have less money, but also our team might be better, and we will be in there for the first time in almost 10 years, as opposed to 03/04 when we were on a come-down from the O'Neill years.

It wouldn't be like Boro either, their stadium is about half full in the Championship, even if we were doing badly we'd be getting around 30K and it wouldn't look nearly as empty as theirs. Plus the away fans would probably be allowed an extra thousand.

Anyway, I just hope if it is done it's done well and I live in hope that ticket prices would be reasonable enough to attract 35K+

Love the water jets coming out the middle of the stand in the second one - sven's wet t-shirt competition being planned then?

lol He was promised it when he signed.

That looks a superb stadium, went to the old Roker Park years ago, never been to the Stadium of Light yet, looks good though

Yeah it's not bad at all for a modern stadium. Went to the Sunderland-Newcastle game earlier this season when it was full and the acoustics were quality too. Sounded soo much louder than the King Power ever has.

Extend the east stand and at the same time time create a safe standing area. Overall capacity will go up but not by too much as safe standing area takes more room. Stadium would be therefore easier to fill, look good and have atmosphere - if only.

That is exactly how I would want the East Stand to look if it was expanded. The roof doesn't slant and look stupid like Derby's. I've been to The Stadium of Light twice, both watching Leicester, and I have to say it is one of my favourite grounds I have been too.

Surely for ours to be like the Stadium of light the roof would have to be raised all the way around? Which wouldn't be good for acoustics you'd think.

The noise may aswell be down to the fans you find up there. Absolute nutters :P

I've been to Stadium of Light a few times now with Leicester and also without Leicester, it's a fantastic looking ground, one of the best in England IMO.

I don't think Top will care about that though, unless he could get more money out of it being full. I was just wondering if it was being planned because we heard these rumours a while back.

If ticket prices were what they are now in the Premeriship I think we'd be selling out every week. If the owners thought they could make more money with an almost full bigger stadium it may actually benefit us.

We weren't selling out in the premiership 8 years ago and that's when we were in the middle of an economical boom and you could get a decent seat for £21. If we got to the premier now I'd be amazed if we averaged close to where we got to last time let alone another 5,000 on top.

I'm also under the assumption ticket prices would be increased again which would simply now become a case of pricing people out however much they wanted to go.

I really don't see this as a priority for us yet, the only plus point I can see is it would give the ground a bit more character.

8 years ago we were also in a relegation battle. After the successful and exciting O'Neill years it had gone tits up pretty quickly.

In contrast, if we got to the Premiership this time it would be our highest point in 8 years. The mood would be far more optimistic and this might attract more fans. And if we finished mid-table we'd attract a few more on top of that. And, as I said, I expect the away allocation would be bigger.

Ticket prices is a different kind of issue, these can be chosen and if they are cheapish more fans will come. We don't know how much they will be in the Premiership but they can easily be chosen so that we get a lot of fans in.

Well I hope you are right on the ticket prices, judging by what I have seen so far though I see no evidence they would be made affordable.

i agree with this myself..

sure someone did an estimation before and it shows X amount of people at the higher price would be easier than y at a lower price..

the amount of season ticket holders will more or less stay the same, then they know they will get some usual following and extra from the glory boys coming for the opposition so they wont need to be making deals...
