singaporefox Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 POST MATCH REACTION Posted on: Sat 05 Feb 2011 Mark Robins gave his thoughts after this afternoon's game at the Walkers Studium againt Leicester City. I believe that the scoreline was harsh today and on the way we played. I think Leicester are the best side in the division. The crowd dictates things here and the referee forced my hand a little bit as he told Arismendi he was going to be booked again so I took him off as a precaution, but I also felt he evened it up towards the end of the match. We created plenty of chances today, but all of their goals were unbelievable strikes. The wind made a difference making the ball move in the air a lot

Nick Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 We are the best defo, and we would be a decent prem team with the squad we have currently Squad? We have nearly enough depth in squad to cope with two injuries to the starting eleven. We have a starting 11 which even if stayed fit all season playing every game wouldn't be mid table in the Premiership - way to poor at defending for 90 minutes and have taken next to nothing away from home. What we do have is potential but take away the loanees and we have gaping holes.
Brown Fox Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 On paper we have the best side. Don't rate Swansea at all. Just watching their game now and about to commit suicide it's so boring. They remind me of us earlier in the season. They just pass it for the sakes of it and love turning periods of attacking play straight back to their defence then back to the keeper. Nullify Sinclair and they are nothing. Admitedley they outplayed us earlier on this season but you could say Sheff Utd outplayed us last week so makes no difference. Think they'll drop. Also nick we have won the same amount of games this season than last season away from home and still have loads of games left. Also our squad is very good. Not many teams in the champ have a goalscorer like waggy on the bench, defenders like Bruno and to an extent recently when oakley has come on he has looked very good. Also with dyer on the bench he would start for most teams in this league. And yes we may have loanees but Yakubu and Naughton have views to permanent moves. Also take out Mee we have Hobbs, take out Yak we have vassell or waggy, take out PVA we have Bruno and yes we may have a shortage at right back but your argument is complete shit
LCFC_ED Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 fair point about the loanees. however, i think the only one we would miss is kyle naughton. we only have van aanholt, yakubu, naughton and mee on loan who were in the squad for the barnsley game. all apart from naughton we have got a good replacement for. e.g for ben mee, jack hobbs and for van aanholt, bruno berner.
davieG Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 Losing managers, especially after a big defeat often come out with this type of statement as it reduces the pressure on them and gives them a valid reason for losing. I tend to take no notice of it.

What we do have is potential but take away the loanees and we have gaping holes. Pure speculation and not a valid argument. Look at blackpool. I guarantee you wouldn't have said they had a starting 11 capable of being 15th (and indeed higher) in the prem this time last year. Plus, when you look at how we played against man city, special circumstances aside, it shows what we can do when motivated because Man City didn't play badly in either game. I do think some are getting a little carried away though. I think play-offs are as good a shout for us as anyone else looking at our form, but there is still a long way to go, and just because Robbins said we were the best team it doesn't mean an awful lot, it's well meant but it's hardly gospel.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 On paper I'd say Cardiff have the best squad. Then us. Playing wise though it's a tough call between us and Forest. Don't think QPR are all that, just that Taarabt carries them at times. They're decent don't get me wrong but Taarabt inparticular saves them alot wether it be with a goal or assist out of nothing.

I genuinely think we are the best footballing side in the division now and we are starting to get the mental toughness better now also (re last 3 away games) but in this division more than any other literally anyone can beat anyone and alot can happen between now and the end of the season so heres hoping we get in the play-offs
Corky Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 We're not the best team, we still look vulnerable defensively. Going forward we are very impressive though.

Yes probably Cardiff's attack and midfield - in an attacking sense - is better than ours, but their defence isn't brilliant. Is it true they haven't kept a clean sheet yet or hardly any??
Fox1651 Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 We're not the best team, we still look vulnerable defensively. Going forward we are very impressive though. Were the best Footballing side in the div but i agree not the best Team as you say our defense is still suspect
B52 Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 ...way to poor at defending for 90 minutes and have taken next to nothing away from home. Nothing from home is a myth. We have, since Sven came in, 4 wins, 1 draw and 5 losses. It leaves us with a 1.3 points average and around 8 place in the league at away games. At home we have 2.4 average....... Totally we only have Notts Forest ahead over Svens introduction including a couple of games lost because we didn't have the players we have now.
ajthefox Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 As much as I hate to defend anything involved with Neil fvcking Warnock, QPR isn't just Taraabt and 10 other players, they've got a few very decent and experienced championship players. Taraabt only has 2 goals more than Kingy so for what it's worth anyones criticisms of them being a one man team are almost as valid for them as they are for us. ( I don't know assists value hence almost) That aside, they've got Jamie Mackie on 9 goals, Heidar Helgusson on 6 goals and Tommy Smith on 4. Not to mention their squad also boasts Walker, Shittu, Routledge, Rammage, Buszaky and a very respectable championship keeper in Paddy Kenny. They might not be my favourite team but they are top of the table on merit and it's not because they are lucky or are overachieving, and I think some people need to take off their rose tinted spectacles and look beyond the glamour and excitement Sven has brought to the Walkers before they start mouthing off about how good we are and how not so good other teams are.
phillthefox Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 having seen all the games this season i would say the best team i have seen so far by far is QPR which i hate to say as warnock is a PLANK, but i think we are on a par if not better now with our additions, and hopefully we can get them perm for next season in the prem IN SVEN WE TRUST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sge:
CosbehFox Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 Long way to go yet...and with the greatest respect to our recent opponents and how the quality of football we have been playing, we've got four of the top six plus Watford, Reading and Burnley to play. 4 of them away, 3 at home. Acid test next week for me, tricky game.....almost too 'easy' on paper.
Jodranadinho Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 Nice to hear flattering comments like that from opposing managers. Our passing football and attacking mentality is finally starting to get some recognition in this league
Ford Super Sunday Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 Nice comments, but the best team in the division is the one which finishes top at the end of the season. We can be the 'best team in the division' to as many people as we like, including ourselves, but if it doesn't get us promotion, it means diddly squat.
Asherz Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 i am just hoping the fact naughton is slamming in all these goals for us means he is loving his football... and will take one for the team and sign permo IFwe do not go up... granted yakubu would most likely not stay but there are plenty of strikers out there that sven could get in. would honestly love to see naughton sign a perm deal... and i personally feel there is quite a good chance of it. since he has came hasbecome a big part of our team best RB we have had in years if you ask me... maybe if mee plays like he did yesterday for the rest of the season he could be a good addition... just know if we dont go up theres a chance we could loose kingy to a bottom end of the premiership team... hopefully he see`s the bigger picture and realises we are a much better potential than most lower end premiership clubs! altho i know if we lost him sven would bring in a class replacement... he aint failed us yet with player bought in

Guest ttfn Posted 6 February 2011 Posted 6 February 2011 I think it's a pretty sweeping statement to say that we're the best side in the division. Since we've hit form, the only truly decent side we've played are Swansea, who were on a pretty miserable run at the time. As I said in a different thread, let's see where we are in a month's time, when we've played Cardiff, QPR and Norwich. If we're still sniffing around the play-offs then, anything's possible.
