MikeyT Posted 11 February 2011 Posted 11 February 2011 How long would someone face in prison for tax evasion?
davieG Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has arrived at court this morning for the trial at which he is accused of tax evasion. Redknapp, who has been tipped as a future England manager, is accused of two counts of cheating the public revenue when he was manager of Portsmouth. He is accused alongside the then Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric. The first charge alleges that between April 1, 2002, and November 28, 2007, Mandaric paid £93,300 into a bank account held by Redknapp in Monaco, to avoid paying income tax and national insurance. The second charge for the same offence relates to a sum of £96,500 allegedly paid by Mandaric to the same account between May 1, 2004, and November 28, 2007. Both men deny the charges and a two-week trial begins at Southwark Crown Court this morning. Redknapp, 64, who underwent minor heart surgery last year to unblock his arteries, is the most successful English manager in the modern game, having led Portsmouth to FA Cup success and Spurs to last season's Champions League quarter-finals. Serbian Mandaric is now chairman of Sheffield Wednesday, having previously worked at Leicester. Redknapp is represented by John Kelsey-Fry QC, while Lord Ken Macdonald QC is counsel for Mandaric, of Stretton Hall, Oadby, Leicestershire. John Black QC will open the prosecution after a jury is sworn in before Judge Anthony Leonard QC. Read more: http://www.dailymail...l#ixzz1kGvkPno4
broughtonblue Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 so redknapp opens an offshore bank account in his dogs name, doesn't sound dodgy at all!!!
Salieri Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 so redknapp opens an offshore bank account in his dogs name, doesn't sound dodgy at all!!! Unless they're barking up the wrong tree there could be ruff times ahead for Mr.Redknapp. Also, that court drawing of Harry is fvcking shit!
broughtonblue Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Unless they're barking up the wrong tree there could be ruff times ahead for Mr.Redknapp. Also, that court drawing of Harry is fvcking shit! i agree about the drawing, but your other statement.....oh dear oh dear
Guest MattP Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Been following this, this two are goners. No idea how they thought they were going fight this. Naming it after your dog Arry
jonlcfc1990 Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Remember this is the future England manager as we are led to believe money and football talks, Just look at John Terry he's in a actual police investigation that has brought charges against him he's about to face the person he abused in a game and the FA want Anton to shake his hand! talk about cheek. Any association with the FA England or football and these court cases just fizzle out i've lost all hope in this so called "justice" system when it comes to football and sport. The only saving grace is that this is tax related so maybe they will get the book thrown at them

Agreed- I wondered why they had a drawing of Henry Kissinger then I realised it was supposed to be 'arry
Babylon Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 The more that comes out during this trial, the more I don't think they don't have a cat dog in hells chance of getting away with this. So you have to ask, will England appoint a recently convicted criminal as manager?

Managers are happy to sign convicts as players whats the difference? and if you believe certain people these days the FA are as corrupt as FIFA

21st Century Fox Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 How did Michael Caine and Terrence Stamp get mixed up in all this??
purpleronnie Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Suspended sentences they'll get I think. Agreed, if that.
Corky Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 How did Michael Caine and Terrence Stamp get mixed up in all this?? Not a lot of people know that.

cc_star Posted 8 February 2012 Posted 8 February 2012 Manderic & Redknapp NOT guilty of all 4 charges
Guest MattP Posted 8 February 2012 Posted 8 February 2012 Mandaric was found not guilty 3 months ago for a similar offence with Peter Storrie. So it's not "only in America" where the rich are treated diffidently in court.
21st Century Fox Posted 8 February 2012 Posted 8 February 2012 It can also now be reported that Mr Mandaric and Peter Storrie, Portsmouth's former chief executive, were cleared of tax evasion charges at a separate trial last October. They were both accused of evading tax over player Eyal Berkovics's termination fee. Mr Storrie was also accused of dodging tax on a signing-on fee to midfielder Amdy Faye when he moved from Auxerre to Portsmouth.
PegguyArphexad Posted 8 February 2012 Posted 8 February 2012 Correct decision. Prosecution only had circumstantial evidence. The case failed upon finding motive to do it.
AjcW Posted 8 February 2012 Posted 8 February 2012 Redknapp not guilty. Capello quits/dismissed by England. England hire Redknapp. England win Euro 2012. You know it makes sense
Corky Posted 8 February 2012 Posted 8 February 2012 Redknapp not guilty. Capello quits/dismissed by England. England hire Redknapp. England fail in their usual miserable way. You know it makes sense More realistic.
Mack Posted 8 February 2012 Posted 8 February 2012 I've followed this trial fairly closely. From what I can gather the only evidence of wrongdoing they had was a taped interview Redknapp gave to Sun Reporter Rob Beasley. Redknapp told Beasley the money was a bonus for flogging Crouch, and that was the case in a nutshell. Redknapp gave evidence in court saying he lied to Beasley to get him off his back on the eve of the Carling Cup final. And that was that. How did they ever think they would get a conviction based on that? When a jury is told by the sitting judge they must be CERTAIN to give a guilty verdict. It's well known in football circles that the HMRC have been looking for a Football related tax case to bring to court for some time. This one based on what I have heard was a non runner from the off.
