davieG Posted 25 February 2011 Posted 25 February 2011 I didn't listen to Radio 5 live commentary but by all accounts Claridge was very critical / not very complimentary about Leicester. If you listen how does that compare with his OS comments. Claridge Backs Foxes Promotion HuntPosted on: Fri 25 Feb 2011Former striker Steve Claridge says City will be the side nobody in the Championship wants to face at present, if they can maintain their outstanding recent form. The former Foxes favourite, now a regular pundit for the BBC's coverage of the Football League, has been mightily impressed with Sven-Goran Eriksson's side, who have charged into promotion contention with seven wins in their last nine games.Claridge wrote himself into Foxes folk law in 1996 when his extra-time Wembley winner sent City back to the Premier League through the play-offs.And with the backing provided by the club's new owners, Vichai and Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn, the legendary striker reckons his old club could repeat the feat this season.Speaking to Foxes Player, Claridge said: "It's hard not to be impressed with Leicester's form of late. They look good in every department and it's a good time to be playing well. There's probably just enough time for them to nick a top-two spot, you never know! We'll keep our fingers crossed. "I don't think anyone will look forward to playing Leicester between now and the end of the season. They are the movers and the shakers, they have real money, real quality and it is set up to be a really good end to the season for them. Who knows? Maybe they can go one better than last year. "At this stage they're up there with the very best in the division." Following Tuesday night's game at Cardiff, the Foxes host M69 rivals Coventry on Saturday, before travelling to leaders QPR and welcoming high-flying Norwich in the next fortnight. It could be a pivotal run in City's season as they look to put themselves firmly in the promotion picture and Claridge says the players at Eriksson's disposal will relish the challenge. He said: "They are extremely well-equipped, so they will probably look forward to those games because they will separate the men from the boys. "If you have real intentions of going up, those are the sides you have to beat. If you can beat them, you drag them a little closer to you and, on current form, they will leapfrog them so they'll look forward to those games."
StanSP Posted 25 February 2011 Posted 25 February 2011 He sways. Not only physically, but seems like he does so regarding opinions too. Oh and I just have to point out... Claridge wrote himself into Foxes folk law in 1996 when his extra-time Wembley winner sent City back to the Premier League through the play-offs.
Kilworthfox Posted 25 February 2011 Posted 25 February 2011 I didn't listen to Radio 5 live commentary but by all accounts Claridge was very critical / not very complimentary about Leicester. If you listen how does that compare with his OS comments. I listened to the 5 Live commentary & he just called it how it was I guess, I did not think he was critical, he just said that when we were shooting the shots were not on target & that we really did not do enough to deserve anything from the game after we went behind.
ajthefox Posted 25 February 2011 Posted 25 February 2011 there's a fair few people who went to Cardiff and didn't speak well of us, sounds like it's just an honest opinion to me.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 25 February 2011 Posted 25 February 2011 To be fair those comments were made before the Cardiff match. Even so, Claridge is really getting on my nerves this season as much as it pains me to say it. Whenever he is forced into praising us he seems to want to get it over and done with as quickly as possible and in a really dismissive tone. He invariably mentions our 'riches' too. I wouldn't mind so much but 150million is hardly megabucks in football and I often wonder if he has ever even heard of the likes of Ecclestone and Briatore.
Rich Fox Posted 25 February 2011 Posted 25 February 2011 He is a crap pundit lets be honest, dont think he even knows half out side, wish he would just shut his mouth, total crap.
1994fox Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Claridge is the biggest disabled i have ever heard talking about football. And yes i have heard Adrian Durham. Last 10 mins we're touring bloody sweden not thailand. And last years squad??? what the fvck is he on??
smudger63 Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 He was also suggesting that sven wasn`t up to manageing in the championship, and was quite critical, i thought. Also said, he knew after watching us against cardiff away, that we wouldn`t go up last season, and was not impressed with us, despite us throwing loads of money on premiership loans.
wurmer Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Claridge is a total tool, who gives a toss what he says.
accessory Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Whatever his issues with Sven, Claridge deserves a lot better than to be dissed on here by a bunch of kiddies who clearly have no understanding of his part in City's history.
Unabomber Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 I am staggered that he is getting paid to share his views on football. Absolutely clueless.

He was absolutely right! Sometimes the truth hurts...
Haydos Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Fortune spent last year. Yuuuur right. Supposed to get out last year? Ok. Ian Holloway, wish we could have him back instead. He did well. Why the fvck is Claridge going on about last year? Chappers tries to steer him towards the permanents signed this year...nothing. Loans? Experience? Permanents? Money? Frees? Whatever we do there's still always going to be people bitching.
Haydos Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Whatever his issues with Sven, Claridge deserves a lot better than to be dissed on here by a bunch of kiddies who clearly have no understanding of his part in City's history. Oh give me a fvcking break. His past with this football club has shit all do to with how much he knows about football and I do not respect him one bit when it comes to being a pundit. He talks out of his arse 99% of the time and for some reason that goes up to 100% whenever Leicester crop up. They have him on to talk about football, bit of a debate etc and all he does is spout the same crap about not believing in Sven over and over again even when pushed repeatedly by the presenter to actually talk about something else. Remember him in blue forever. Couldn't give a shit when he's talking about football.
Callabinho Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 He was highly critical about QPR prior to last season and look where they ended up.
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 He was highly critical about QPR prior to last season and look where they ended up. He's going to eat his words about Svengali and the success we all hope we'll achieve so why worry ????? Then .......remind him !!!!
leicesterisme Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 As a pundit he knows absolutely nothing and is so dull to listen to.
wurmer Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Whatever his issues with Sven, Claridge deserves a lot better than to be dissed on here by a bunch of kiddies who clearly have no understanding of his part in City's history. I actually think you are serious, aren't you.

I admit im not old enough to remember the Claridge days, however having not witnessed this first hand shouldnt make my opinion inferior. Also his comments in above link are outrageously mongish and regardless of Claridges history he obviously does not have a soft spot for City in the same way we have for him(not surprising considering the amount of clubs he was at!). Personally i find the man infuriating and had it not been for his part in our history (which i'm not entirely ignorant of) i would dislike him immensely.

To be honest, I'm sure he's a nice guy but he's just a dreadful, dreadful pundit. If the BBC still has any sense though he won't get a contract renewal and he'll be off the airwaves in a few seasons...
Guest Bilo Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Nothing but admiration for Stevie Claridge as a player for us, somebody who scored the goals that sealed our promotion to the Premiership and first major trophy in 34 years in successive seasons should always be remembered fondly by the fans. As mentioned though, he's wrong more often than he's right when commenting on the game and that kind of insight rather shows why he didn't succeed as a manager with all due respect. Fantastic player, poor pundit.
STUHILL Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Leicester must have done something to Claridge! He is always soooo negative about us and such a nobber on that football league show!! Want to laugh in his face when we storm it this year after all the crap he has said!!
Callabinho Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Some of the things he says on the football league show are cringe worthy, week in week out he bashed QPR for one reason or another, the guy is a clueless. Even if he is an "LCFC legend", it doesn't make it okay for him to sit and spout shit about us, thing with him is now he will be calling us black and blue but if we win our first ten games, he will be licking Svens shoes clean everyday.
