MikeyT Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Patrick Van Aanholt out for #lcfc for 3-4 weeks with a torn thigh muscle. Sven says he 'has options. Berner and Naughton possible LB Sat'
MikeyT Posted 28 February 2011 Author Posted 28 February 2011 I would like to apologise for my poor spelling of his name in the thread title.
Christoph Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 3-4 weeks is a bit gutting but atleast all the Berner bumboys will get their wish if he comes back. Can Berner hack 3-4 weeks of 2 games a week at a decent pace? If Naughton goes left back does that mean Ben Mee going right back
marbelladave Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Well this will please many a fan. Not sure what I think about that.... Plenty of options, Berner or Mee as a straight swap, Naughton on the left, Bruma right, Mee at left centerback? Just a few of the options... Means yet more changes to the defence but I guess that rules out 3-5-2 for the forseable future.

MikeyT Posted 28 February 2011 Author Posted 28 February 2011 I thought Ben Mee could play left back, so there would be no need for Naughton to go in that position. Have to just have the back 4 as Naughton, Bamba, Bruma and Mee/Berner.
Corky Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Don't want Naughton playing at left-back, I'd worry about our right side.

Fox92 Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Well, this will please the Berner fans and Van Aanholt haters. But lets see how Berner copes against the pace of Routelege and other QPR players...
nickelbyfox Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Ben Mee started for England uner 21's at left back, and wasn't that great to be honest, red carded at the end too giving away italys winning penalty
m00nie Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 shame.. as poor as he was saturday i do believe he was the best option for that position.. dont wish an injury on any player either..
DB11 Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Ben Mee started for England uner 21's at left back, and wasn't that great to be honest, red carded at the end too giving away italys winning penalty That was at international level though
NGoloMode Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Naughton has played quite a bit at left-back for other clubs. Nothing new to him.
Libertine Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Bruma at RB then probably, with Mee and Bamba back together. Could be alright...
marbelladave Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Ben Mee started for England uner 21's at left back, and wasn't that great to be honest, red carded at the end too giving away italys winning penalty Not so. He played left center back in a makeshift back 4, disrupted even further by Rodwell's injury after 12 mins. Played ok most of the game though he fooked up badly for the penalty.
Itsthejoeker Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Might have something to do with his performance on the weekend.....
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 If Berner plays against QPR he'll get torn a new arsehole....
marbelladave Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Bruma at RB then probably, with Mee and Bamba back together. Could be alright... If Sven is seriously considering switching Naughton to the left, then this is the way to go. Given QPR's strength on the flanks I really do not know what to do for the best.... One faintly related thought, give Abe a picture of Taraabt so he knows exactly what to do on saturday!

Part of me thinks that we should have players in their best positions, especially as Taraabt is always popping up on the wings, but we also need pace.
cc_star Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Although I prefer Bruno in a back 4, the one team in the league with pace on that side is QPR I suppose that means if Bruno does get beaten for pace, all the PVA bumboys will be saying "I told you so" despite PVA contributing nothing of note apart from helping a couple of goals against, thanks to his lack of defensive awareness, during the past 4/5 games since his début. I would have thought Mee will step straight in
surrifox Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 isn't Vitor supposed to be capable of playing full back?
unreachable Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Is it more important to have a good defensive left back or right back? This forum seems to get dominated by opinions concerning left backs and I wonder whether this is because more attacks possibly oppose a left back and expose their defensive weaknesses. Discuss!
thybluefox Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 I hope I'm not proven right at the weekend in thinking that Routledge is just going to destroy Berner if he plays against QPR. Either Ben Mee (with Bruma CB) or Naughton (with Bruma RB) is the way to go. I'd go with Ben at LB.
