ScouseFox Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Bruno up against pace does concern me, but I said that pre-Swansea after Cunningham's injury, and he dealt well with Dyer/Sinclair running at him. He's a professional and never had blistering pace. I'd prefer 4 defenders in their correct positions than 2 full backs playing relatively new positions, or even worse, Michael Lamey.
MPH Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 If i was Berner, and i dont get picked for this game i would be furious with Sven. Berner WANTED to leave in january for first team football.. was given a few games, was reassured, signed a new contract and was promptly replaced. To not be picked would be an absolute kick in the teeth for him if a natural CB was picked in a position he ' has had a few games' in ahead of a natural LB. I understand the concerns about pace but i remember the days of Elliott and taggart who had the pace of a snail yet made up for it with positional sense and their strength ( plus a few wacks to slow people down ) . George Graham once said ' running into leicesters defence is like running into a brick wall' I would pick Berner.
ousefox Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Berner is easily good enough to get into our side now, i'd rather have him than van aanholt anyway. If Sven seriously decides to play Mee at left back, there will be no way back for Bruno because Mee isn't even the 'pacy fullback' that Sven wants playing.

He's got another year of well paid employment in the bag having signed a new contract. He's not stupid - he's happy to sit on the bench otherwise he wouldn't have stayed with us.
1991FOX Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Berner fukt up adam johnson against man city he can handle routledge or whoever he's up against

Pride is an important thing for a footballer. Infact Berner said it himself.... Reluctant Bruno Berner expects Leicester City exitIt is more that I have to move than I want to move. I don't really want to end the chapter with Leicester but I have no choice Bruno Berner Out-of-favour Leicester City left-back Bruno Berner expects to leave the club in next month's transfer window as he wants regular first-team football. The Switzerland international, 33, has lost his place to on-loan Manchester City full-back Greg Cunningham. Berner told BBC Radio Leicester: "I am still desperate to play. It looks like in January I am looking for a move. "I am ambitious and too proud to sit on the bench, sit on a contract, take the money and be happy. I cannot do that. "
unreachable Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Pride is an important thing for a footballer. Infact Berner said it himself.... " Berner's quote was before he signed a new contract. Perhaps the promise of another year under contract persuaded Berner that bench warming was a good option.
topharry123 Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Why move Naughton when he's been doing just fine where he is? Berner has to come in, he may not be quick but he's barely put a foot wrong when he has been called on. He's solid, and I think he can play a decent part against whoever he needs to, pace or not.
kane Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 berner is too slow for the style we play now , he has had his day at city , he is a good player but we need excellent players such as naughton, not sure what sven will do , maybe another loan?
surrifox Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Routledge is nothing special- not worth dicking around the whole defence for . Berner is the replacement -play him. He should have enough know how to negate anything routledge has got. The attacking slack will have to be taken up by the midfield doing more

Maybe true, i'm not sure I agree 100% yet. My view would be maybe play him against QPR. If he can handle Routledge then he can still do a good job for us. If he can't, then maybe the summer will be time to let him move on and sign someone who can do the job.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 If Berner doesnt start and stay in, I will be completely bewildered why not.
Thracian Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 I thought Ben Mee could play left back, so there would be no need for Naughton to go in that position. Have to just have the back 4 as Naughton, Bamba, Bruma and Mee/Berner. Seems sound enough. In fact it may be our best defensive combination, Especially as Berner will have lost some match fitness.
Thracian Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 isn't Vitor supposed to be capable of playing full back? It would be a relief if Vitor showed himself capable of playing more than a couple of games on the trot anywhere!
Kingylcfc Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 why is everyone talking about berner so much??? he wasn't even on the bench vs Cov, even the likes of Moreno were
marbelladave Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Seems sound enough. In fact it may be our best defensive combination, Especially as Berner will have lost some match fitness. If Berner does play I would like to see Mee at left centerback, having a proper, left footed, left sided play to support him could make all the difference. Bamba did not look comfortable covering for van Aanholt on saturday, we had problems down that side for much of the game.
dannythefox Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Routledge will have berner for breakfast! berner wont last the game out thats for sure.
I am Rod Hull Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Jesus christ Routledge isn't Ronaldo. He's a good player of course, but Berner is more than capable.
dannythefox Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Jesus christ Routledge isn't Ronaldo. He's a good player of course, but Berner is more than capable. Hes no ronaldo but hes very quick.
Callabinho Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Jesus christ Routledge isn't Ronaldo. He's a good player of course, but Berner is more than capable. I worry, I'd prefere Mee there simply because he is younger and would possibly cope better with Routledge
Legend_in_blue Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Where are all the boo boys now? Perhaps they're waiting for news of a Ricardo injury as well before doing cartwheels all over Leicester.
RowlattsFox Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Naughton always cuts inside anyway, so left back could be ok for him. I'd worry about natural left foot though especially as Gallgher will probably be in front of him. Not so sure on Mee at left back. Don't know if Berner is carrying a knock as well because he was on the pitch with coach around 1.45 on Sat doing a session but wasn't on the bench.
ajthefox Posted 28 February 2011 Posted 28 February 2011 Although I prefer Bruno in a back 4, the one team in the league with pace on that side is QPR I suppose that means if Bruno does get beaten for pace, all the PVA bumboys will be saying "I told you so" despite PVA contributing nothing of note apart from helping a couple of goals against, thanks to his lack of defensive awareness, during the past 4/5 games since his début. I would have thought Mee will step straight in Only one team with pace on the right wing in the whole league? ...are you sure? I'm a little disapointed with this, it means more unsettlement in the defence regardless of who fills in, but maybe this will yield a more solid defence as I think it's safe to say Van Aanholt isn't the best defender in squad. Can't see why putting Naughton at left back would make sense, that just means two players out of position as opposed to one. Mee if he can play there would be my option I think, maybe Bruno.
