Schlupp wants to fight for Leicester City place

Apr 29 2011 By Tim Street

jeffrey-schlupp-image-1-363709929.jpgJEFFREY Schlupp has warned Brentford fans he intends to be playing in the Championship for Leicester next season.

The on-loan striker made it four goals in seven games since joining the Bees with the last-gasp equaliser at Notts Countyon Monday.

His pace and ability have added an extra dimension to a depleted Brentford forward line, leading to calls from fans to try and get him on a season-long loan next term.

But Schlupp said: "The whole idea of this loan spell was to prepare me for breaking into the first team at Leicester next season. I think they are hoping for me to get some more experience here before going back and showing what I can do during pre-season.

"I want to break into the first team too - that is my ambition."

However, the 18-year-old Ghanaian, who is a German U19 international, insisted he is open to coming back to Griffin Park if things don’t work out at the Walkers Stadium.

He added: "I wouldn’t mind coming back. It’s a bit too early to talk about what might or might not happen next season, but I wouldn’t rule it out."

Schlupp started his spell like a house on fire with three goals in as many games before losing his place, but his goal at Meadow Lane could win him a starting place at home to Southampton tomorrow (Saturday).

He said: "I was disappointed to be dropped as everyone wants to play, but the manager knows what he is doing.

"It was a relief to come on and score, and hopefully I will now win my place back and finish the season well.

"The celebrations showed how much that goal meant as we felt robbed, and a draw was the least we deserved there."

Haha! Don't say that, you know the Leicester fans only relate to players like Hume and Robbie Savage who run around like mongoles after a set of felt tips.
