Burnley Player Ratings

Weale 7.5 (One excellent save from a long range shot in the first half and a couple more important stops. Looked solidly in control and never let himself be disturbed when Bamba blocked his view of a cross resulting in the ball being momentarily spilled).

Vitor 8 (Another clean sheet on his return said a lot for me. At one stage I focused on his positioning during a period of play and it was immaculate. Never seemed the least bit trouble defensively and provided competent attacking support throughout).

Bamba 7.5 (A typical Bamba performance but the back line did look solid for the most part nd he was a big contributor)..

Mee 8.5 (Loved yet another of his most emphatic tackles and this set the tone for a no-nonsense performance where he always looked in command. Did Burnley even have any attackers second half? Cos their fans were heading home from the time of the second goal and it didn't get any better for them) .

PVA 8.5 (I was concerned for the first 15 minutes or so but he really shone thereafter and capped his best performance to date with the perfect finish to a terrific team goals. His greater urgency going forward pleased me in the second half and contributed much to one of the best 45 minutes I've seen from us this season and for lots of seasons before that).

Oakley 7.5 (Gave the ball away a bit first half but showed outstnding commitment to the cause thereafter)

Gallagher 9 (One exception goal hit speculatively from long range and penalty that might well have been saved on another day but both were important goals and his all-round contribution only iced the cake for me).

King 8 Almost back to his passing best, particularly second half and, while not scoring, got himself into stacks of goalthreatening positions. Perhaps too deliberate with his best effort, which was blocked but I thought his availability was a big reason we defended so soundly and moved the ball so competently).

Wellens 8 (Drove forward with determination and recovered the ball well when a movement broke down. What a goal his volley would have been if it hadn't hit the woodwork).

Yak 7.75 (Clever assist for Kamara's opener and involved with a lot of good interplay).

Kamara 10 (Brilliant. A real footballer. Made himself available all over the place, created havoc by tking people on and passing the ball into plaaces that hurt and scored an excellent goal to round off a quality move.

Subs:

Vassell 7

Howard 6

Abe 6.5

Sven: 10. Hit the jackpot today in winning an important game by reviving our passing game.

No it's called being sarcastic because of all the Weale bum boys on this forum and in that game he did exactly the same things as ricardo and yet because its almighty chris Weale he is untouchable to critism if it was ricardo there would be a post with a reward for his head..

I was right behind the shot, it was no where near straight at Weale.

I'm not Weale's biggest fan either, I'm sick of him getting beat from far out but I'm not gonna let you make stuff up.

I did like how he put his hand out to sort of say 'stop' when everyone was chanting his name on a goal kick. He's got a bit of class about him, I like that.

Okay I'll hold my hands up and say I was wrong, to me it looked like it was at him

Actually the one you say he dropped and was headed over was volleyed over, and he didn't drop it, Eagles headed and he blocked the header at point blank range. Every single goalkeeper in the world from the best to the worst will occasionally punch a ball to a man on the edge of the box. You're very harsh.

I think the defence look happier with Weale behind them anyway. They look more confident.

I'm not a fan of Ricardo either, but those type of mistakes are what he has been slated for, yet Weale was far from perfect at them. I'm not slagging him off, just showing the double standards that seem to be used on the gk issue

But you stating rare moments. Ricardo punches literally everything. Looks nervous under every high ball, and has let a couple of soft goals. And he's only played 7 games!

I'm not fan of most keepers from Portugal/Spain sort of area, as they punch a lot, are shit on crosses and expect refs to protect them rather that challenging for the ball. Weale's style and ability is much more suited to English football.

Weale - 7 - Not much to do. A good save first half and a few good takes from corners.

Vitor - 9 - Kyle who? Absolute beast, never beaten and good down the wing.

Bamba -8 - Few iffy moments but generally solid, especially in the air.

Mee - 9 - Never beaten. Had the strikers covered all game.

PVA - 9 - Bit suspect defensively in the first 10 minutes but played very well after that. Great goal.

Oakley - 8 - Very good at retaining posession and doing the simple stuff.

Gally - 9 - Great balls into the box, 2 goals.

King - 8 - Not great in and around the box but good passing, cleaning up.

Wellens - 8 - See King. Had a great volley hit the bar at 4-0.

Yak - 8 - Very strong and looks to be forming a good partnership with Kamara.

Kamara - 11 - Brilliant at passing and keeping the ball (glued to his foot?), great goal.

All the subs were good once they came on.

Kyle who? Kyle the most consistant player over the last weeks.... who most Leicester fans would love to sign up!

Urgh. Pretty sure he was emphasising how good Vitor was rather than saying Naughton is shit.

So you say he was 'almost beaten' and use it as a criticism even though actually, he saved the shot? Hmmmm....

Sounds like that 4 is entirely justified..

Weale is constantly picked up on being crap at saving long range shots, and when he saves one somebody picks him up on almost being beaten, Or in other words for saving it. he can't win! :frusty:

He had a good game, don't remember him dropping anything or flapping at anything. He might have slipped a couple of times on kicks but a lot of players seemed to slip, I think the pitch might have been over watered.

I'm not sure if the original comment was intended to be tongue in cheek but i think it's a pretty good parody of the Ricardo slating on here tbh. At least the responses you guys have posted are things that i have thought in response to some of the Ricardo bashing.

A lot of the criticism of Ricardo was over the top and often incorrect, but that doesn't mean you have to slag off Weale to prove the boo boys wrong.

This - kind of. Got too admit i think it's pretty sickening the way Ricardo, a Leicester City player, has been treated by our fans. And Weale being on the pitch and being applauded for the things Ricardo was hounded for is also a bit of a sickener. I genuinely think there has been some criticism of Ricardo that just had a bit of a xenophobic, sinister undertone to it. Admittedly some the criticism is justified, but the treatment on the whole hasn't been imo - i'm sure some others are still quite conscious of that, i know i certainly was today with the over the top Weale love in the stands.

Weale - 7.5 - didn't have much to do but the one save he was forced into was a good'un.

Vitor - 8 - Marauding runs foward and solid at the back.

Bamba - 7.5 - Came close to making a hash of things but seemed so much more comfortable on the right side of defence

Mee - 8 - Solid tackles but wasn't exactly troubled by burnleys toothless attack

PVA - 9 - Got foward as usual but seemed more defensively aware than in previous matches, and what a finish!

Oakley - 8 - I'm not his biggest fan and at points in the first half he looked worrying but second half much improved.

King - 8 - Didn't display the finishing he is capable of but looked all the better for the rest last weekend

Wellens - 8.5 - Comfortable on the ball, passed it around well - looking like the player he was in the run-up to his contract extension

Gallagher - 9 - All round play was good, as was his finishing.

Yakubu - 8 - Overshadowed by his strike partners but still caused burnley problems

Kamara - 10 - Showed great skill on the ball, good vision and confidence, caused no end of problems and scored a beauty of a goal - I hope we can sign him on a permanent this summer.

Posted

Weale - 7 - No mistakes, but not put to work by Burnley. Distribution still lacking.

Vitor - 8.5 - Have I said before that he's ouer best defender? I think I have and today's performance in an unfamiliar position only raises my estimation!

Bamba - 7 - Was helped by Burnley players losing thier feet on a couple of occasions and I hate it when players run at him.

Mee - 8 - His best performance in a (Leicester) City shirt. Never flustered.

Van Aanholt - 8.5 - This was the game of the full-backs. Thought he was going to have a mare when he was skinned early on, but great attacking, if still a little worrying defensively.

Oakley - 7.5 - Solid and kept the midfield turning over in a way I've not seen for a while. Just occasionally let the game pass him by.

Wellens - 8 - All energy and soaked up a lot of Burnley's plays and turned them into ours.

King - 8 - Some nice runs, but where's that shot gone Andy?

Gally - 8.5 - Great game, very aware and played some great balls in as well as his two goals

Yakubu - 8 - Held up the ball well and created space and chances for others. Plenty of visible effort!

Kamara - 9 - Stunning home debut, great feet, worked tirelessly and deserved him goal.

Subs:

Vassell - 8 - Was almost like Kamara hadn't come off.

Howard - 8.5 - Let me say this AGAIN - Nobody does what Steve Howard does as well as Steve Howard. You want the ball held up? Give it to Steve!

Abe - 8 - Only on briefly, but some great link ups with Vitor and Gally.

Atleast someone noticed it, I'm fed up of the blatant bias towered Weale and look how upset people get defending bum boy Weale

Sinister and xenophobic?? It's simply a case that the majority of city fans would prefer weale in goal to Ricardo as he is far better suited to the championship. If we had van der sar then we wouldn't be bothered with weale being sat on the bench. It doesn't have anything to do with nationalities. It is simply that weale is more reliable than Ricardo. Weale is also a genuinely nice guy and this means people will naturally support him.

Weale - 7 - Solid enough. Did well when required.

Vitor - 8 - Yet another performance which suggests to me that he is the best CB we have at the club. Out of position but still looked accomplished. Any chance of signing him? Not a chance!

Bamba - 7 - Looked more assured at RCB. Works well with Mee, gives better balance.

Mee - 7.5 - Sign him up in the summer. Provides balance to the back four.

PVA - 8 - The best attacking LB in the league. Sign him up.

Oakley - 7 - Even he managed a good game today.

King - 9 - Everywhere. Really up for it, great performance.

Wellens - 7.5 - Usual industrious self.

Gallagher - 8 - Menacing all game.

Yakubu - 6.9 - Didn't hold the line brilliantly but put a few players in here and there which caused trouble.

Kamara - 9.5 - Class. Act. Enough said.

Subs:

All 7.

6 further wins required. It's still possible. As I said earlier today, don't play Bruma and we'll do ok.

I'm sorry but while i think that is the case for alot of people, i don't think it is for some either.

There have been plenty of times i've heard something along the lines of '**** off you portuguese twat' etc. in the stands The different treatment they get from the fans is completely disproportionate to the gaps in their abilities as goalkeepers, it's ridiculous. The reaction to him has been completely over the top, and to direct all of that towards him. not the manager that picks, seems to agree with there being slightly more to it than what you suggest - but then the whole thing has completely snowballed as well.

Like i say, don't want to get my words twisted - i'm not at all suggesting that if you prefer Weale or have supported it vocally that this would be you, but similarly i'm certain these people do exist because i've heard/witnessed it myself.

Weale - 7 - Nothing major to do. One good long range save, although he did spill a couple of crosses today. All-round solid though

Vitor - 8.5 - Very good on the ball, positioning fantastic, and linked well up the right hand side. Proved he is a good footballer wherever he plays in the side.

Bamba - 8 - Looked far more-comfortable at right centre-back then he did on the left side at Middlesborough. Solid again, although occasionally makes a crazy decision which scares the life out of me.

Mee - 8.5 - Team looks so much more solid with him in the side. Left sided centre back who adds lots of balance to the back-line. Good game.

Van Aanholt - 8 - Got forward well, linked well with Gallacher/Kamara, giving us attacking options down both sides.

Oakley - 7 - The weak link in the team. Although he had one of his better games today. Often too slow on the ball, but worked back very well for the team.

Wellens - 8.5 - Ran the midfield today, drove forward with the ball, always offered an option, and was involved in everything good we did. The volley that hit the bar would have been a great reward for his performance.

King - 7.5 - Tried too hard today to score. Worked hard, got involved more than he has done recently, but just needed to relax in the final third.

Gallacher - 8 - Great 2nd goal, always looked to create something, and caused the Burnley fulls back problems all day long

Yakubu - 7.5 - Worked harder than recent home games. Great assist for the first goal. Lead the line pretty well.

Kamara - 9.5 - Superb. Fantastic first touch, always looked to go forward, and sat in un-markable pockets of space. Far to good for the Championship on this evidence.

Subs

Howard - 7 - Carried on leading the line where Yakubu left off.

Vassell - 6.5 - Ran around a lot. Game was already won by the time he entered.

Abe - 7 - Offered soo much more than Oakley did.
