Donkey donkey donkey...

If he stayed injury free (very unlikely) he could easily bang in 20-30 in the championship.... Donkey or not!

2,061 is very impressive for a player who has not signed yet

Is he really worth what Bristol rate him for

I meen £4.5 mil for a player who has not done much!

Whats the rage about him?

Come on guys!! As a bristol city fan I've been reading this topic with interest for the past week or so and I have to say its probably the most ridiculous reading of my entire life!

Leicester 'real Madrid' city?

The way you write bcfc off is beyond belief! Bcfc have one of the richest and best chairmen in the country and they have huge plans and a bright future, not forgetting the fact the chairman is a local who has supported the club since a nipper! Finishing 4th(play-off final) and mostly top 10 apart from last season since 2007 is pretty respectable and bests anything you guys have done for a good while(not that you cant in turn go on to even bigger things) and they were one of the form teams towards last seasons end(even after the whole steve 'cop-out' coppell!!)

Now, Nicky Maynard is one the best and brightest outside the EPL, joint top scorer in his second season in the champ, is probably better than Boothroyd and Carroll to name but a few and we all know how much the latter went for(can't really compare different types of players) he's still a good age too. I see everyone going on about he only has a year left, is stalling, city are a tin pot team(even though currently far more established in the npc), no hopes of promotion etc etc etc, but in reality its pretty much 99% that he will sign an extension of 1/2 with an EPL clause or w/e. Listen to bcfc's stance, to reject 4.75 almost instantly makes me almost certain the board know Nicky will re sign. Why would they go to such efforts to brush off Leicester and make such statements if he's off? They would look like a right bunch of numptys! He also travelled to Portugal I think 7/8million might do it but even then with Steve Lansdown and his plans that might not even be enough, after all what message does it give out if we just up and sell one of our best assets after season after season of promotion talk from the man himself!!?!?!

A source inside Ashton Gate said: "We have received three separate bids for Nicky and each one has seen an improvement of about half-a-million pounds on the amount to be paid up front.

"The third offer was a substantial one and, once all the add-ons were taken into account, was worth £4.75m in total.

"That is big money and other clubs in our situation might have been tempted.

"But Steve Lansdown is committed to delivering Premier League football and is not in the business of selling our best players.

"Leicester can keep coming back in with improved offers, but the answer will still be the same. We do not want to lose Nicky and we certainly do not want to sell to a rival Championship club."

Unless a Premier League club shows an interest before the transfer window closes at the end of August, the situation will only change if the player himself decides he wants to leave Ashton Gate.

It is understood Maynard has assured Robins manager Keith Millen he wants to stay and it seems the striker's agent is the driving force behind recent events.

Aware that Maynard's value will decrease now that he is in the final year of his contract, City cannot afford for their prize asset to become a free agent and leave for nothing at the end of next season.

Instead of selling, they are focussing their efforts on persuading Maynard to sign the new contract that has been on the table since the end of last season.

Negotiations are continuing between City directors and Maynard's representatives and chairman Colin Sexstone is confident the striker, signed from Crewe Alexandra for £2.25m in July 2008, will commit his future to the club.

that's rich when your topic is 131 pages of pure speculation and by and large nonsense!

And? Funnily enough, forums tend to be mostly full of opinion and speculation.

So... you say the way we write you off is beyond belief but who exactly have you signed this close season to give yourself so much faith in your mega rich chairman?

and also... they hope to persuade Nicky to stay.... but doesnt the fact that the contract has been on the table since the end of last season give you any clues about his willingness to sign it?

This topic should be closed.

Probably until Bristol City stop daydreaming and accept what is a very generous offer from us, or until Maynard hands in a transfer request. End of story.

Why do people think we have a god given right to sign him? Yes we may have money and ambition but Bristol have every right to turn down our offers. Their apparent mega rich owner is doing it because we are in the same league which again fair enough, man city do it all the time. However the annoying bit is the deluded fans of BCFC who actually believe he is worth £6-7m and can't see it's a tactic to put us off!! After reading most of this god awful thread I honestly don't think I have ever experienced fans who know less about football and the running of a club than Bristol City fans.

This is the way i see it,whats the point on holding on to your prize asset if you are not going to be ambitious enough to build promotion winning team around him.

If you are just happy enough to consolidate, then would you not be better off cashing in whilst he is in demand.

That's hard to believe considering some of the rubbish spouted on here by SOME Leicester fans.

Also why do you think LCFC and it's fans are better placed to value NM than BCFC and our fans? It's the seller that sets the value not the buyer otherwise he'd be your player by now. We have watched him for the past 3 seasons and seen him go from a scorer of great goals (QPR away, Coventry away, Newcastle home etc...) to a great goal scorer averaging a goal every 2.11 for the past 2 seasons.

Can't see this one happening, time to move on to other targets, going to take a huge overinflated offer to get him IMO. Only way this happens is if he says he wants to leave, pretty sure if that was the case he would have done it by now. I get that Brizzle dont want to sell to the Championship as they have their own ambition but lets be honest the ceiling is top 8 at best with the current squad, why not cash in and improve the team in multiple areas? What will be even funnier is if we go up and he joins for free next year.

I for one wish we would just pull the plug on this one they are getting too greedy for one thing and i am sure we could get a 20 goals a season man elsewhere and for much less than what we would have to pay Bristol City i beleive they would of sold him by now if they was going to lets move on go for Jay Bothroyd he knows where the back of the net is. :chant:

This is a crucial position (as is Mills) , when Yakubu was here you knew no matter what that he would score plenty of goals, now we have a decent keeper and a strong centre back, we just need a 20 goal/season man to complete a strong team spine, (btw to fill this position is normally the most expensive), but im sure sven knows his financial limitatiions
