StarFox Posted 21 July 2011 Posted 21 July 2011 Yes Waggy.... Bert, as someone who clearly likes having Waghorn at the club (i.e. Waghorn as your signature and all). What's your own point of view on this? Are you personally happy with the offer?
Bert Posted 21 July 2011 Posted 21 July 2011 Thanks Bert, its much appreciated. My condolences though about tomorrow morning, priorities. Looks like this could get VERY interesting though. Thanks for the kind words both. (clazie included ) It could get very interesting. I'll be very disappointed if we don't get the chance to talk to Maynard. (still a chance he could reject us, of course) It's a very good offer that's going in, even more so for a player with 12 months on his contract.

Are you personally happy with the offer? I'll be gutted to see him go, but I'm not sure whether he'd go on a permo or loan. For me though, Sven knows what side his bread's buttered. We have to trust and back him.

We have to trust and back him. Would be much much happier if it was a season long loan, that IMO would be a perfect deal for us. We can't give him the game time he needs to develop if we're pushing for the title, Brizzle could though.
acooling08 Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 £6 million for Maynard is just OTT, especially considering he is injury prone. Even if we get promoted, could he cut it in the Prem? I doubt Sven would sell Waggy, he is excellent back up or as a bench warmer.
Guest ttfn Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 £4.5m plus Waghorn permanently is a shit deal. There's no way that Maynard (with 1 year left on his deal) is worth 4.5m less than Waghorn (with 3 years left on his). £4.5m plus Waghorn on loan for the season is good business. Right now, Maynard offers a lot that Waggy doesn't.
ajthefox Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 4.5+ Waggy is shit, it's more than what Maynard is worth and even if we are willing to offer that much for him, then I don't see why Waggy has to be involved. Why not put money instead of Waggy?

Hack Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 It could be £4.5m plus waggy so i'm told If this deal is real and includes Waghorn, I would expect Sven would stil require another striker on top of getting Maynard. Our striking corp would be: Maynard Nugent Howard Vassell Kermogant I doubt very much Kermit is with the team when the season begins. Howard would be an impact sub, so that leaves 3 strikers. Leaves room for Yak or someone else.
nickelbyfox Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 I do not think waghorn is the key to this season but would be upset to see him leave! think he would be a better impact sub than kermit or howard!
ThurnbyLodgeFox Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 so we are short on strikers as it is, and we are shipping one off with 4.5m to sign ONE striker
Jimmy Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 we're not short on strikers we have Howard, Nugent, Vassell, Waghorn and Schlupp that's 5, given that we only play with 1 central striker how many do people want? we also have Gallagher, DNG & Kermorgant that could all easily play as the central striker in an emergency

Jimmy Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Vassell played on the wing because there was no one else, he came in to play through the middle, and in fact that's where he played the best for us
Finnegan Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 At the end of the day, Sven's been here long enough to know whether or not he's ever really likely to give Waghorn much of a run in the side. If he isn't, then we need to cash in and do what's best for both ourselves and the lad - let him go somewhere where his enthusiasm and his energy can be rewarded with first team football. I've said from the off that I feel massively sorry for Waghorn, having uprooted from his boyhood club to come be a substitute, but sometimes life is disappointing. I would say, however, that if we swap Waghorn (+cash, obviously) for Maynard then I would hope that we're still looking to bring another forward in - even if just a loan.

I totally agree here, I also agree with the comments with regards paying over the top for Maynard with a year left on his contract, but I feel he is the last piece of the jigsaw and you'll always pay over the top for goalscorers Imagine the likes of wellens, king, danns, nugent, maynard gally or vassell ripping teams to bits with a solid defence behind them, mouth watering or what, plus I feel once the prem teams announce their 25 man squads well use the loan system to plug any holes in the squad.
surrifox Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 IF there is a bid and IF the bid is accepted and IF he agrees to terms he will have to pass the medical - that is where it might get interesting- brave doctor to sign off on a 6 million purchase given his injury record
Happy Fox Posted 22 July 2011 Author Posted 22 July 2011 If Waggy leaves as part of the deal we may push for Heskey to sign

Bearing in mind Matt Mills passed his medical with a dodgy toe he had injured before he'd had his medical with us.
KFS Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 If Waggy leaves as part of the deal we may push for Heskey to sign Maynard-Heskey upfront would be utterly ridiculous. They might aswell crown us champs if those two sign.

Bausor Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 If waggy go wouldnt mind replacing him with Derbyshire as a like for like ? but also bringing in another goalscorer
Guest ttfn Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 I don't think we need a striker for the numbers, we need one because the current ones we have aren't good enough. So swapping Waghorn for Maynard makes sense. But if it's £4.5m plus Waghorn that's absolutely mental.
Kent Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 I don't think 4.5m plus Waggy is outrageous. We more or less all think that the 2-3m we paid for him was over the odds so I think it's fair to say that we (the fans) rate him at about 1.5m meaning we would value Maynard at around 6m. Not absolutely ridiculous really, just a fvckin' expensive player.
