I've got to be honest - i've never seen this guy play, and while i've heard decent reports on him if they want more than £5mil for a player still seemingly recovering from injury, who isn't fully proven at this level never mind Premiership, and with only a year left on his contract, then we should walk away.

We could pick up Yakubu/Heskey to lead the line for this season, and then If Bristol aren't in the play-off hunt come January then test their resolve with a £2mil bid, or even just have a crack at this guy on a free transfer next summer when (hopefully) we'll have been promoted.

I wish people would stop saying 'we should be going in for yak/hesk etc'. Haven't we been told neither of them wanted to drop down?

you are right.... Maynard would not want to drop down a division...

I'd rather have Tevez on loan for a season.

Man City are set to sign a replacement for Tevez even if they don't sell him this summer. They won't sell him to a Prem club, and is there anyone in Europe prepared to pay what Man City want, to get his signature.

Man City are quite prepared to play hardball with him because they are so pissed off. Some are saying they might just leave him out of their team and pay his wages anyway. On the other hand we could pay half his wages and take him on loan - that could suit Man City just as well as not playing him at all, it would suit us in all sorts of ways and whatever Tevez is, he definitely gives 100% whoever he plays for.

I like to dream sometimes.

It would only cost 125k a week but Sven would get a striker and the Thai's would get their Marquee signing.

How long before this gets twattered that we're after him.

It would be interesting to know if Bristol City would be willing to sell Maynard to a premier league club, for a lower offer than the last one we put in, given that they keep going on about not wishing to sell to a championship rival.

If,as has been rumoured, it was around 5.3 million, that we offered, and they were willing to sell for a lower price to a premier club, then obviously they will be losing out on some extra transfer money, because i would be surprised if a premier league club would want to pay more than 3.5 million, at most.

If they weren`t willing to take less, than the rumoured 5.3 million we offered, that would surely make our last offer the starting point, for a bid from another club, which in itself could well be putting other clubs, including premier clubs off, especially with him having only recently come back from a nasty injury, and having no proven record at premier league level.

Don't forget the 20% selling on fee they'll have to pay to Crewe Alexandra, which if the £5.3m bid is accepted, would amount to the £1.06m. They'd (Bristol) still make a £1.74m profit, they can't complain about that!

It might not be as much as that, it depends on whether the clause is a percentage of the transfer fee or a percentage of the profit made from the transfer fee.

My view on this now is that we have almost certainly put in a new bid earlier in the week. That bid has not been 'knocked back'. I think it is likely to be with the proviso that if they do not accept our offer by this week-end we will then withdraw the offer. Bristol City are now making noises that 'they have tried their best to keep Maynard', in preparation for their increasing need to either get him to sign a new contract or get the best deal they can. It seems highly unlikely that a Prem club will offer as much as us over the next few days. I think it highly likely that Maynard will be ours by Monday. If he is not a Leicester player by Monday we will, I think, move on to the Yak.

ummmm...Is he this good?

maybe not on his past record, but he certainly has the right attirbutes to become a top Championship / midway Premiership striker. I don't think he would get to the heights of an Andy Cole / Alan Shearer, but he should do well for himself and whatever club he is with.

Some times your not buying proven quality, but potential and I would say it is the later we are doing here with a little bit of proven qualityallbeit at a lower level than we're intending to go.

Getting quite bored of this saga now, he's obviously holding out for something in the premier league. Move on sven, plenty more fish in the sea.

It's quite rare that premiership clubs look in the lower divisions for a proven striker. They either go abroad or play swapsy with other premiership clubs. The occasion when they do sign a striker from the lower divisions is either for cover or they are newly promoted themselves.

It was different 10+ years ago but that was before the premiership became the richest league in the world.

Unless it's clubs like Southampton, then they'll get bled dry of their young star talent.

I don't blame NM for waiting and seeing, who knows what will happen with bottom half Prem clubs? Also don't blame Sven for pursuing, clearly rates NM highly. In fairness to NM, after his knee injury he came back and scored 3 in 3 starts (and finished with 6 for the season in 13 games). Shows he hasn't lost his touch. With the inflated prices we're having to offer, I don't think we've pushed this one too far.

Maynard is obviously not interested in a move to leicester otherwise it would be done and dusted by now. move on and go for ebanks blake a quarter of the price and a better goalscorer this whole maynard saga confuses me say what you like he is in no way worth 5.3 million.

This is spot on.

Move on, he isnt worth anything like this and just because we have some money doesnt mean we should be using it to make the rest of the championship rich.
