thybluefox Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Not quick enough, or physical enough. He has the skill but he's missing what we need from a front man in this system. He's also quite surprisingly inconsistent at finishing chances. For some reason he's great from long range, but never seems very confident in the box. Works much better as a wide player.
Babylon Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Gotta love Bristol fans. "I think that the un-written rule of respect to a club is that you sign a new deal, even if you intend on leaving. In this case then everyone is a winner, an increase in wages for the player & the club do not lose out on the 2.25m we initially invested in him. If maynard runs down his contract so he can leave on a free he and his bast*rd agent will be the only winners in this, with a bigger signing on fee when he moves. Yet more £ out of the game."
FallenAngel Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Can't they take Kermit instead? I'd be gutted for us to lose Waggy, he's got so much potential!
Woollett's Wellies Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Can't they take Kermit instead? I'd be gutted for us to lose Waggy, he's got so much potential! I don't think we know wether the rumour Waggy is part of the deal is for a loan or a permanent transfer do we? If it's a loan that means he gets regular starts we'll get a much better player back than we have now.
Jimbo Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Can't they take Kermit instead? I'd be gutted for us to lose Waggy, he's got so much potential! I really don't understand the Waghorn love. And before anyone jumps down my throat, I do really like Waghorn, but we can do so much better and Maynard is so much better. Waghorn works really hard, he's a stocky lad who holds the ball up well and will run until his legs drop off. He works hard and never gives up but as a striker he lacks one key thing, composure. Just about every goal he's scored for us has been lashed home. Yes it would be a shame to let him go but if he's not going to feature in the managers plans then whats the point of having him around? And no one was complaining last summer when we over paid for him by about 1.5 million. Maynard will do the business, but now i fear (if he is to sign in a deal like this) that the pressure is really on him. Not just because of the price but there will be a ceratin element of hate towards him already because Waggy has been 'forced' out to accomodate him

ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 I like Waghorn and would prefer to keep him in the squad this season but its obvious that Sven doesn't see him as a starting striker. If thats the situation now in the Championship and we're aiming for the Premier League then maybe there isn't a long term future for Waggy here. Having said that, we shouldn't just basically GIVE him away in this overpriced deal.

He's quite simply the worst professional footballer I've seen when it comes to taking set pieces, yet he insists on taking them when he's on! Watching him warm up before the game is eye watering too, I just want to run down to the pitch, shake him and tell him to try at least get his shots on target! Steve Bruce must be still laughing.
One Arm Babba Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 He's a professional footballer. Pressure is part and parcel of the game. If we get promoted with him contributing 20 or so goals, then he is well worth any figure. Go back to when Claridge scored the winner in the play off final. He cost us £1 million but when he scored that goal in the dying seconds he would have been worth ten times that amount for the moment he delivered. Its fairly obvious Sven has been given good funds to do everything possible to achieve promotion this coming season. Whatever Maynard may cost it isn't coming out of our pockets so who cares? if they think he's worth £5+ million then great. If your dad won the Lottery would you turn down a Bugatti Veyron because its overpriced? "sorry dad, i'll take the prius" "I told you he was queer Jean!"
Nocturnal Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 I've never rated Waghorn as highly as some people, i mean even in his first season with us he only managed 12 in 43. Hardly prolific. I like the lad but it's probably the best thing for both of us.

There's a lesson in there somewhere.

Yes he has potential, but it is just that - potential. He's not the player to be leading the line of a club with serious aspirations of promotion, hence my interest in Maynard, the Yak, SEB - or someone (that type of player) that isn't currently in our squad

Waghorn does have his limitations as a player, but it would be a real shame to get rid of a young kid who has showed so much promise.

Must agree on set pieces, I watched the stream of the Bursaspor game on Wednesday night, he took 2 or 3 free kicks in decent positions on the edge of the box, all were blasted well over the bar, WASTE!
Callabinho Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Waggy thrives on confidence, I know for a fact that last season he was really low on confidence and was frustrated for the entire season, His confidence took a huge blow under sousa and he hasn't really recovered. Under Pearson he was immense and showed real promise. he has quality but he is in desperate need for a confidence boost maybe a loan would do him good, but to let him go permanently is silly.
Danno Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 dont know if its been posted but apparently weve had a bid accepted according to quite a few people on twitter.

Babylon Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 I want to know last4lcfc's opinion on all this. You seen his personal twitter account? Someone posted it the other day and told everyone to tell him what they think of him ha. The lad has issues is all I'll say.
thybluefox Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 He is just asking his contact for more info Ironic that the first he heard about it was me asking Fourth_official if he'd heard anything.
