shiv Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 personally dont think we overpaid for waggy, yes for leicester back then 2mill was steep but i think for a younk kid he has big potential and already has the skill to start most games for us, unfortunately for him we have the money and attractive manager to get better more experienced players, putting him out of favour but i think if he was given the game time he could really show us what a demon he really is The deal for Waghorn was worth £3M and I personally think we overpaid. But then again I guess that's just football right now, transfer fees are getting ridiculous!
Maybes Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 Don't count your chickens until they come home to roost, Bristolians.
Guest parky0607 Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 Still find it amusing the figures being bandied about on here. 3 mill ha ha ha. You could probably get his left leg for that ha! He isn't going to another team in this division so get that through your thick skulls... Nicky will quite rightly sign a new deal with us and hold out for a move to the prem which will come if he carrys on scoring for us,hes not stupid he knows this. A move to a solid club in the prem a club like Fulham Blackburn etc, its a no brainer. Jump ship and go to you lot? Come on we all know what the championship is like, anyone can go up from this division incluing ourselves. Say he buys the crap you lot spout and he signs a 4 year deal with you and you flop and finish mid-table next season? All this will be going thorugh his mind. Add to that the fact we have already offered a ''lucrative'' deal of about 20 k a week him staying with us and waiting makes so much more sense, think about it? Good luck in the striker hunt but having spoken to various sources down here today im 100% confident he wont be going to you or anyone else in this league. You're going to look silly if he does!

Nicky Maynard is worth no more than you spent on him, I am aware he has struggled with injuries but he has not done enough to warrant a £3.5+ price tag! And he is on holiday at the moment so how do you know he isn't interested? I'm afraid Keith millen is no Sven some fans may gloat in the wrong way but our financial power speaks for itself. We are hugely ambitious and other players will be aware of this. If Maynard feels it's best for his career to Join the favourites for promotion then he will. We can offer him a major pay rise and a better chance of promotion, so in reality it's up to maynard what happens from here.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 I hope Bristol City go down this year. I'd crease myself with laughter if it happened.

Various sources? like who?.... The Wurzels?

Bilbo Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 I work in Nottingham (eurgh) and according to their equivalent of the Leicester Mercury Forest are preparing a 4 million pound bid and he is at the top of McLaren's shopping list.

Bilbo Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 Here's the info http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/Forest-join-chase-Bristol-City-striker-Nicky/story-12807289-detail/story.html STEVE McClaren has put Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard at the top of his Nottingham Forest shopping list. The new Reds boss wants the highly-rated front-man to bolster his City Ground front-line and the club are ready to pay up to £4m to land their man. Nicky Maynard .But they will face fierce competition from Championship rivals Leicester City, West Ham and Southampton. The 24-year-old is entering into the final year of his contract at Ashton Gate – and has rejected several offers of a new, improved deal. City do not want to lose a player who has scored 37 league goals in 85 starts and 12 substitute appearances since signing from Crewe Alexandra for £2.25m in July 2008. But they may be tempted to cash in on the player now, rather than lose him for nothing in a year. Forest would have to make Maynard their highest paid player if they are to persuade him to move to the City Ground, with the player already earning in excess of £12k a week with the Robins. But, with high earner Robert Earnshaw likely to follow Nathan Tyson out of the exit at Forest with his contract set to expire, the club have freed up some room to manoeuvre within their wage budget. And, with McClaren on board, they hope to be able to convince Maynard of their Premier League aspirations. Forest will back McClaren in the transfer market this summer, with a winger and a left-back also high on his list of targets. Although, with Leicester and West Ham in particular also harbouring serious promotion ambitions, Forest are likely to face a significant fight for Maynard's signature. Maynard may also choose to take the same path as previous Reds target Darren Pratley who, rather than accept Forest's advances, chose to allow his Swansea contract to expire before becoming a free agent this summer. Pratley is expected to officially join Bolton on a free transfer in the next few days.
Guest Bilo Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 I love the difference in reaction between Huddersfield and Bristol City fans when their best player has left/looks like he might be leaving for Leicester. Huddersfield - Gutted to see him go as he's our best player but it's for the best for him career wise, and we wish you and him all the very best. Bristol City - OMFG! LESTA BIDDING FOR MAYNARD! THEIR A TINPOT CLUB IN A TOWN FULL OF IMMIGRUNTS! FVCK OFF SVEN! MAYNARD WILL ONLY GO TO LIVERPOOL, MAN UNITED, REAL MADRID OR BLACKBURN! DELUDED LESTA FVCKS! LOOOOOOL
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 We knew that about 2 weeks ago. Put simple if we are are not going to get him for £3.25 mil thats the figure being banded about,so if some of our fans dont think hes worth more than that why keep going on about him-lets look elsewhere, sven as weigh up if this guy could cut it the prem league imo if the club want to get promoted next season hes not the one to get us 20+ goals-me the Yak

LOOOOOOL How can you compare us to Huddersfield fans . A club that just failed to get out of league one its clearly obvious that a move to ANYONE in the Championship would be a good career move.. We will let Nicky go graciously when a Premier League outfit comes in willing to pay the fee we think he is worth (5 mill and above) . Im sorry but selling to Leicester City for a derisory sum is going to get are backs up. What infuriates us even more is the fact that other mediocre championship clubs seem to now be jumping on the bandwagon. Southampton and Forest for example. I mean WTF.
One Arm Babba Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 Its not even a real Bristol fan. It's someone from here on the wind up.

We've made a bid that is worth probably more than he's worth, his goals aren't going to get promotion so he'll leave on a free next year, is it worth losing £3.25M for a season of his goals, when reallistically even with them you wont get promotion. 2. He's been linked to West Ham and Forest, hardly mediocre championship clubs and certainly a lot bigger than Bristol City.
Adster Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 I will so hard if he joins us now. I'm up for a trolling sesh.
Ashley Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 at the Bristol fan. Forest and Southampton mediocre? Both clubs are bigger than you. Behave your self. Fool.

What infuriates us even more is the fact that other mediocre championship clubs seem to be jumping on the bandwagon. Exactly, they've far more class. Apologies Terriers. Swansea paid £3.5m for Danny Graham who had a longer contract, had a better season last season and has had less injuries. Why then do you honestly believe that a Premiership club would pay £5m for a player who has never played a Premiership match, spent much of last season on the treatment table and will be available on a free in twelve months if he doesn't sign a contract? I hardly think £3m+ under the circumstances is a derisory fee. If he slaps in a transfer request when he returns from holiday, it looks quite expensive. As for mediocre clubs, I would put good money on at least two of West Ham, ourselves, Southampton and Forest finishing above you next season. Maynard may well think along similar lines when he returns from holiday and if he does, the transfer request may bring his price tag down a tad. Again, that's an IF. I'm not about to pretend I know what's going to happen.
