Adster Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Why do people rate him soo high! He plays for Brizzle and has not done much! Soo why the rage for him You seen his goals-to-games ratio?
Guest Bilo Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 When he is fit he is leathal! So let me get this straight we have made an improved bid? Apparently so. Hope this is the one that does the business.
Staff Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 No problem mate Ohmy6od2 Chris Adcock @ @Fourth_Official still waiting for Nugent and Derbyshire #rollseyes hmy6od2 Chris Adcock @ @Fourth_Official how many deals have been announced where players have been unveiled on pre contract agreements? Lots so far! this is the culprit!!
Toffee_Fox Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 so two signings they said would happen have happened an hour after they said they wouldn't tweet about us because of stick, great! <_< Just Bert I'm holding out hope on now
Filbert's Friend Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 I think the only solid news is our raised offer of £3.25 million
shiv Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 You seen his goals-to-games ratio? Yeah it's not outstanding! Its very good but he's only had one prolific season in this league!
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Me too I am horribly confused..... I think you'll find, nothing will happen until Maynards back off holiday at least - which is a week away. City will be offering an improved deal, he'll reject it (i expect) and I imagine there will be more than one bidder for his servies. For those of you questioning his goal to game ratio - that's not the only thing a manager looks at. He has a bit of pace, an eye for goal, a decent amount of skill and that nack of being in the right place at the right time. There is a lot of good things to be seen in him, that as a manager you want in your team and of course will have the confidence that you can bring more out of, so I think this is just the type of signing we want to be looking at.

I wasn't questioning his goals to game ratio, I just don't think it can be used to justify his price tag which is very high for someone who has yet to prove he is the best striker in this league (which some people have said he is).
Ashley Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 I would say he is the best player in the division. In that position...
sdb Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Kevin Nolan, Ab Faye, Danns, Johnson, Foster etc? He's in the top 3 strikers easy. I'll give u that. Desperate for us to get him!
NGoloMode Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Don't get carried away haha. Yea he's really good but best in the division? Calm down.
JJS84 Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Not on topic at all, but am new and just read the rules to the transfer forum, what is wummery? Can someone please explain that one, I don't want start a new thread for that, and wouldn't know where to put it.

WUM means Wind Up Merchant so its posting rumours which have no real suastance to them or off football-rumours.com
JJS84 Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Thank you, I now understand a few previous posts. On topic, Maynard is a class act and I hope he joins, but still feel a second top quality forward is required, not sure nugent is that guy.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 I wasn't questioning his goals to game ratio, I just don't think it can be used to justify his price tag which is very high for someone who has yet to prove he is the best striker in this league (which some people have said he is). It's really difficult to know what a reasonable price is now though because people keep going for silly money. Mean even second rate Premiership right backs can move for millions - it is quite shocking these days. Put it this way - at 3 million each we could get 8 Nicky Maynard's for the price of one Darren Bent - I'd go for the 8 Nicky Maynards, although I wouldn't know where to keep them all.

I think someone earlier in the thread got it right when they talked about Graham going for £3.5M which shows that Maynard is clearly overpriced. But it's also the fact of people saying he is the best striker in the league with one absolutely immense goal and one very good season in the Championship. I just don't rate him as highly as everyone else, purely because I haven't seen enough of him to convince me that he's the best striker in the league. That's not to say I wouldn't want him here. He is a brilliant player and would probably bang in a fair few goals for us with the quality around him.

People saying he's the best striker in the league are talking out of their backside - it's nigh on impossible to build a convincing case to that end, BUT, his ablities could lead him to becoming a very good striker in this and even the Premier League (ultimately, the nack of goal scoring is not that different between leagues, confidence and form plays a big part) and so I am pleased that we seem to be looking at the right sort of player for us. I would certainly take Maynard, who has something to prove and a career to further, over Yakubu, who could also end up leaving us for a crucial two months of the season (African Nations Cup year this year isn't it?)
Ashley Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 I've not said he's the best striker in the league I was just replying to a comment saying he's the best player in the league. No one can the best player in the league due to positions wise etc.
enex Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 forest are prepared to pay 4 million for him? http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/Forest-latest-club-consider-bid-City-striker/story-12811996-detail/story.html

Graham and Morison were overpriced and they went for less, no club should be paying £4 million for Nicky Maynard, considering he's just come back from a long term injury and has a year left on contact.

Ah Forrest................the strikers graveyard. How many strikers have they bought in recent years?
Ric Flair Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 £4 million is a lot of dough for Maynard, I don't want us to get embroiled in an auction for him and pay way over the odds. I am also starting to come round to the fact that I want him here though as before I wasn't overly keen given his couple of serious injuries he's had. Tough one. We must get a proven goalscorer in though and if we fail to get Yakubu or Maynard it's back to square one. Nugent, Derbyshire and many of the other strikers we've been linked with aren't necessarily 20+ goals a season forwards.
