RedHux Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Why are American's running around the streets having a party? I think we all know what is probably coming. Yes .....a 2hr docu-drama recounting the tale of handsome US special forces defeating the monstrous desert warrior and all round bad egg, Bin-Laden.
Mack Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Yes .....a 2hr docu-drama recounting the tale of handsome US special forces defeating the monstrous desert warrior and all round bad egg, Bin-Laden. Yes you are right. Obama will be played by Craig Charles with a ferret glued to his chin.
MC Prussian Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Took them ten years to find him? What was he doing in Pakistan - apparently in Abbottabad, a city that features the Pakistani military academy? Why was he "accidentally" killed and not caught, questioned and put to trial? I'm sure he could've told us all a many an interesting story about the allied secret services... and maybe al-Qaeda, too. After all the previous false reports of his death, the involvement of doubles used to fool the Americans and their allies, how can you be sure it's him? Besides, how's that going to help the US in Afghanistan? The war will continue, and probably even fiercer than ever. There's so many Muslim extremist nutjobs that I doubt they'll have a hard time finding a suitable replacement. (Sorry for being so negative)
MikeyT Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 One less willy puller in the world. Only fear now is of reprisals.
Finnegan Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Why are American's running around the streets having a party? I think we all know what is probably coming. Yeah this is what struck me first, to be honest. Bit weird really. Just doesn't quite seem the appropriate response but then Americans are weird and we know that. Plus, I hate to join Alexei's negativity, but anyone who really believes that that's now the end of terrorism (as opposed to the trigger of escalation) is a complete moron. One man isn't responsible for the sustenance of an entire ideology. Yes you are right. Obama will be played by Craig Charles with a ferret glued to his chin.
davieG Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Can't see it making that much difference in the long term it certainly wont reduce tensions between the warring factions and if he really was as influential as is made out someone will fill the void. Who's to say he really was their 'leader' rather than just their mouthpiece.
The Padster Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Great news but..... now what? Now that the head has been cut off the snake, do Al-Qaeda collapse? What happens in Afghanistan? A million and one questions to be answered now.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Body has been buried at sea. Fair play to em, if they hadnt done it ASAP it goes against muslim tradition fuelling more fights. Conspirasists amongst you will no doubt say thats because its not really his body
Fosse Boy Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Also want to add my weight to the "this won't change much" argument.

Conspirasists amongst you will no doubt say thats because its not really his body I'm by no means a conspiracy theorist, but if they just want to go "oh yeah we got him... but... we got rid of the body without proof" then that is going to be regarded as suspicious. Of course they have to be sensitive and do their best to minimize outrage and backlash but at the end of the day they're going to get that anyway and the American people will expect some degree of evidence, especially given it'd be the Conservative right that would usually be the easiest to convince but the claim is coming from a black president who they trust so much they've just pressured him into releasing his birth certificate to validate his citizenship.
Webbo Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Might not stop terrorism, might lead to reprisals but the world has one less bad bastard and that's a good thing surely.
FoxyPV Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 This can't be a good thing in the short term. FB - Love that song.

Stevosevic Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Still so many extremists out there, good that he has been caught though.
MikeyT Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Might not stop terrorism, might lead to reprisals but the world has one less bad bastard and that's a good thing surely. Very true, he may be gone..but someone else will come along and claim that mantle. They always do.

MikeyT Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Kinda seems fitting that it marks the 10 anniversary of 9/11 this year as well.
Nick Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 I've been watching events since 4am. I am finding it a bit bizarre and uncomfortable - it's already turning a trial-less execution into a game show. If we invade and police the countries of others on the grounds of inappropriate and inhumane behaviour - surely the 'West' or America need to lead by example. The methodology in the long term, the announcement and the media sale of the incident is productive only on political level. At 4.45 am there was more news about the stock exchange going up 1% than details or reactions from Pakistan.
The Padster Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 About time! Fear retaliation however .. Don't think fear is the right word to use. If I follow El Emptys train of thought for a mo, this is what the Government/s and/or NWO want you to feel. They want you to fear terrorism and attacks by an unseen enemy with no regard for general public, just so they can implement ever restricting laws to "protect our freedom". Now, to say one is bothered, troubled or perturbed would convey your concern for reprisals but not allow the dreaded 'fear' word to enter the mindset. Personally, I am concerned that there will be retalitory attacks, though maybe not imminent, I'm sure one of the swines high up in the Al-Qaeda hierarchy is now planning something. But this brings us on to just what was Bin Ladens position in the organisation? Was he their true leader or just a mouthpiece? Certainly his death brings closure to the thousands of victims of 'his' terror attacks but does it actually change the game?
