Article from Telegraph:

Sian Massey, the female assistant referee at the centre of the sexism controversy that led to the sacking of Richard Keys and Andy Gray from Sky Sports, was flattened by Cardiff City defender Kevin McNaughton on Monday.

McNaughton collided with Massey during the latter stages of his side's 3-0 defeat to Middlebrough on Bank Holiday Monday.

After failing to keep the ball in play McNaughton appeared to change direction as he ran off the pitch and charged straight into the back of Massey knocking her to the ground face first. Massey then jumped to her feet before she continued officiating.

John Viola, McNaughton's agent, said allegations the player engineered the collision were "absolute nonsense".

"He is not that type of guy, he is the nicest player you would ever meet in your life so anyone suggesting he did it on purpose is crazy."

What has, though, angered many was McNaughton's lack of remorse at knocking the woman to the ground.

Definitely looked on purpose to me, he changes direction just to charge her down imo. And is unsportsmanlike not to even help her up, or offer a little apology.

Thoughts?

I firmly agree with that. The ball was also off the pitch, so how anyone can say he was concentrating on the game is beyond me. Mcnaughty Mcnobhead.

I don't like saying someone has done something like that on purpose without real proof, though I can understand why it's been suggested so.

He definitely should have apologised though, well out of order.

looks intentional but id rather wait for the players word for that. no apology or offering her a hand to get up though is a bit shit of him.

Absolute rubbish. I've got a huge amount of respect for McNaughton for the way he consoled Martyn Waghorn after his penalty miss against them in the play-offs.

I thought that was Mark Kennedy?

Not sure. I stand corrected if it was though

Even so, you can see he clearly makes contact with the ball in the video, and has simply gone to chase after it. Media make a mountain out of a molehill again.

Hmm, alternatively if you look at his touch and how close the byline is, there's no way he's EVER getting it.

Both Massey and the ref have a laugh about it afterwards, has she actually made a complaint or is this just the media deciding she should?

Not convinced from that angle that it was intentional and I didn't see it live. Do think it's a bit out of order just running off without seeing if she's alright, though. And not because she's a woman, just because it's a dick thing to do in general. You see plenty of players accidentally injure another player and take the time to see if they're alright.

Yeh I think if anything he probably lost his rag with himself, and sometimes when you do that you don't try and stop yourself.

A bit harsh to go round saying someone's knocking female officals over on purpose when the footage is dubious.

Still the lack of apology was a bit out of order.

Her gender really shouldn't come in to it, truth be told. He shouldn't be knocking anyone over on purpose regardless of whether or not they're a fan, a steward, a coach, a fellow player or an official.

Massey should be treated just like any other official at the game, there'd be rightful outrage if she was given inferior treatment and by the same measure she should not be expected to be wrapped in cotton-wool and given kinder treatment, either (not that I'm suggesting she believes she should.)

It was Kennedy. I remember reading a topic about it when I was drunk and inconsolable in the immediate aftermath of our play-off defeat..

Regarding McNaughton, it is the media blowing it out of proportion. No one would've noticed if it wasn't because she was involved in the Gray/Keys incident. Then again, the man probably should've apologised.. But, if you put yourself in his shoes: Cardiff have yet again bottled it at the last hurdle, when there was a massive chance of going up automatically. He's obviously a wee bit frustrated that he plays for a shitty team

Frustration shouldn't mean you take it out on a (female) assistant though! Knock the other team to pieces not the officials.

I reckon he changed direction to avoid falling onto the concrete floor and into the advertising hoardings. I'd rather fall into a person than metal and concrete :dunno:

seriously, who gives a shit? his momentum carried him into an official and they were knocked over, happens pretty often up and down the country. so what if the official was a woman. so what.

Massey and the Ref laughed about it afterwards, who cares.

That OOFT noise did make me laugh though

After reading the headline and mistaking flattened for flattered, I thought you meant they were dating!! lol

Gotta laugh at the video name as well, don't know if anyone else noticed but it actually says 'Graham Mcnaughton murders Sian Massey'

Does look like he changed direction and since he doesn't apologise I have to say it looks deliberate to me.

There are however more important things in football than a twat who plays for cardiff knocking down an official.

I was watching the match on TV when it happened. I don't think he did it on purpose, and I'm sure he said sorry, or someone did, because when the camera went back to her she had her hand down as if to say 'I'm ok'.

Posted

I don't understand how anyone can think it wasnt deliberate? :dunno:

He changes direction by about 45 degrees AND speeds up. Its not news really and fair play to the lass for not kicking up a fuss, but the geezer's a cunt.

After watching it a few times its deliberate........what a ****, taking out the fact his team are bottle jobs on a women and then not even to say sorry!

WELL DONE BIGMAN :appl: :appl: :appl:
