Eriksson admitted he has received enquiries from other clubs about both players. However, the City boss said he had not decided whether to sell or keep them, and that a lot depended on which of his current loan players he can secure permanently this summer. Eriksson has already called Chelsea about defenders Patrick Van Aanholt and Jeffrey Bruma, but said they were still undecided. Hobbs has enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Hull City, and former City manager Nigel Pearson would love to keep him, while Waghorn has been linked with a move to Derby County, but Eriksson said they were still in his plans for now. "I know there are clubs interested in Hobbs and Waghorn and others, but we can't do anything yet until we know what will happen with the loan players, how many we can keep," said Eriksson. "Hobbs is in our plans and then we will see if something happens with the defenders. Most of them are loan players so we need to see about that before we decide. "Hobbs was at the training ground (yesterday) and I spoke to him and the others, while Waghorn is still having treatment for a hamstring injury." Eriksson said he would not wait forever for other clubs to make up their minds over whether to release players he wants. "I spoke to Chelsea and they haven't decided yet," he added. "We have to wait. We can't release, sell or buy players until we know how many we can keep. Some deals we can do anyhow, and we will, but we have to push these clubs and see." Meanwhile, Eriksson has started drafting the list of players who will be released and retained. The Mercury understands Michael Lamey is on the released list. "Some of the younger players we have already told, who are out of contract," said Eriksson. "It will not be a big revolution in the squad. The core players will be more or less the same."

I would be surprised if they didnt both want to stay. Hobbsy has been reported to not want to leave City. Whether they stay or not I feel will be up to Sven. I personally feel they are both good players with a bright future
RumbleFox Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 It's a strange one. Both were players we loved last year and both were young and seemingly hungry. I genuinely thought we'd found a new Walshy or Elliott in Hobbs. Then a dip in form from both (whether their faults or not, really not sure) and they're both off the radar. Part of me wants them to come back and show us what we were missing but to be honest I can't see it happening. I just don't think Hobbs is the kind of defender that Sven is looking for and Waggy? Well, I would like to see him stay but given a choice of him or that pesky goal scoring Yakubu upfront next season it would be the Yak all the way. Whatever happens best of luck to both of them. Both seem like real genuine guys (insomuch as you can judge from watching games and seeing interviews). Rumble

None of the loanee defenders are much, if at all, better than hobbs. And id much prefer waggy to vassell. He has age on his side for starters, and we all know what he can do if played in the correct position. It all lies with sven, and whether he can persuade them 1. To stay and 2. To get fair treatment when considered for the starting 11, as I still feel sven has his favourites and is very reluctant to drop them. At the end of the day considering IMO how they have both been put on the back burner by sven (unfairly), no-one at leicester could begrudge them if they moved away.

Waggy needs to play as part of a front pairing, its sad it potentially is going to work out for him here through no fault of his own, but such is life... I've not seen a better CB than Hobbs, sure they have a different range of skills, but as far as keeping the opposition from having shots on goal, Hobbs is no worse than anyone else brought in and a damn-sight better than a few of them, but again if a player comes in who's better (Bruma certainly isn't it) then he should be able to leave, its a shame we don't seem to be able to keep reasonable-quality players in the squad to have as backup

Don't like the sound of this, 'more or less the same' - to me sounds like one of the starting 11 maybe on their way, who would be classed as core players? can't see bamba / kingy / abe / gally / wellens going, maybe weale if we get a new keeper or maybe oakley, or i suppose the core may include loanees..... confusing!?

Though its for that reason I don't think either of them will be with us in august. Sven wants proven players IMO, or at the very least young players from a premiership team who are prepared to loan out. Not something I agree with I have to say

topharry123 Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 Hobbs is definitely a decent player and I always thought could make an England captain one day. I wish Sven would realize this and play him as first choice, he may have had a dip in form last season but his quality is definitely there. With Waghorn, I have a huge amount of respect for his loyalty, and the effort he puts in, but I don't think he's good enough to be a top goalscorer though if we really want to go up. Maybe a good impact sub or a good striker for a mid range championship club, but not a first teamer for us. We need to be looking at players of Yakubu's quality if we want to not only go up but also stay up. I wouldn't be too upset if he did leave, and I will always remember with admiration the way he conducting himself after missing the penalty for us. But at the end of the day we need 2 strikers who will get us 25+ and 20+ goals if we want to win this league next season, and I don't think he can do that.
Brown Fox Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 As much as I love Hobbs I don't think he's any good without a big hard bastard next to him. Hobbs' deficiencies have been clear this season. He is quite weak for a centre back and has been getting turned way too easily. He is also quite slow. Give me Vitor, Mee or Bamba any day. And no I have not been blinded by Bambas first game, more or less all of his appearances as RCB he's been stunning though people are forgetting this way too easily. Shit at LCB, quality at RCB. Waggy I think will stay. If he could keep his composure in front of goal he'd get more games but his finishing has been shite this season.

breadandcheese Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 I think it'll be a mistake to sell Hobbs. Last summer, he was joint player of the year and linked to lower Premiership clubs. This summer there's the possibility of him going for a low price. Seems bizarre to me. If we can, I'd like to see Hobbs and Mee as first choice centre backs next year.
