Leicester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is ready to win the race for young Mexican striker Antonio Pedroza Whitham.

The 20-year-old, who also qualifies to play for England, wants to come to Britain at the end of his contract with Jaguares - and Eriksson has set up a move.

Pedroza - whose mum is from Chester - has been approached by the Foxes and may go there despite the chance of offers from the Premier League.

The young forward is hoping for a call-up to England's under-20 squad for the summer's World Cup finals - with Mexico also interested in getting him into their plans.

I just came and shat myself at once

You had a shwank?

Oh and in the article it said Leicester have approached his mother.... what it really means is Sven is tapping that!

His full name is actually Antonio Michael Pedroza Whitham. Genius!

The Mirror is right about his name, but he goes by just Antonio Pedroza, following Spanish naming customs (paternal + maternal last names). As examples, Iker Casillas's full name is actually "Iker Casillas Fernandez" and Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez's full name is "Javier Hernandez Balcazar" but for all intents and purposes, they just use their paternal surnames.

He's quite highly rated but still has a long way to go to crack into the Mexican national team.

So he'd be Antonio Pedroza in Mexico and Michael Whitham in the UK. That's brilliant integration!

I know I'm committing FoxesTalk crimes by posting this:

But it doesn't look glossed up by fancy effects and music, so it must be legit, right?

He looks like a Waghorn type of player, strong and runs a fair bit. He even scores a header in another video.

They seem to love him out there, all the broadcasting is about him.

But, if there is any substance behind this, is he any better than we've got? I guess a couple of videos won't answer that question.

He can't be that bad, or else he wouldn't of caught the eye of Arsenal or Chelsea (apparently Antonio trained with them), and i swear i read somewhere that his contract is up? So if he's on a free then get him in.

Err, isn't this because I made a post suggesting him as a joke in the Who Would You Buy topic? As he seems a sutiably bizarre suggestion like those we normally get this time of year.

I can't help feeling this geezer is a touch over-hyped. But Sven will have a shit load of contacts in Mexican football and if we can exploit that then it's worth a look. Wikipedia suggests he's got a good record for Mexico Under 21's.

I only want him if he turns up on a donkey wearing a sombrero. I'm not picky about who wears it, either him or the donkey :P

Anyone that's under 21, who manages to bag one or two Libertadores goals is always hailed as the next big thing.

Wasn't too long ago Franco Di Santo was getting hyped beyond belief by the Argentinian press, and his career has just flat-lined since then. Was dubbed one of the '50 most promising teenagers in the world' by World Soccer a few years back, too.

Commentators in that video were talking positively about his mobility and pace.

These type of signings could go either way, just no way of telling. Hernandez only had 1 breakthrough season at Chivas before moving to Man Utd, before that he wasn't regarded as anything special.

That is where the quality of the manager comes through. From what I can remember Sven admits to one bad signing whilst at Man City, but he doesn't get things wrong too often. If we do get Pedroza he'll be good. In Sven I trust!

even if he goes to Man Utd/ Arsenal/ Chelsea, with Sven's links theirs always the possibility of loaning him ;)
