I am sorrry Mack but all credability goes out of the window when you mention him as better than ay other keeper!! :P

Alnwick did very well when he was on loan with us.

Much better than anything we currently have at the club.

Here's a few ideas...

Boaz Myhill Paid a bit and only signed for them last year maybe(?)

Shay Given Not going to happen

Ben Alnwick Barely played. After a quick look, seems to have been 2nd choice to Schmeichel

Ross Turnbull - Probably not a bad shout, not seen him play recently though (Wage issue?)

Stuart Taylor - Again possible (Wage issue?)

Thomas Sørensen - Wages/Fee/Could play for someone better

Brad Jones - Meh

Adam Federici - Meh

Julián Speroni -Cost way more than 1m (Signed a contract last year according to wiki)

All options but apart from Sorensen, Given, Myhill and Speroni I wouldn't rate any better than Schmeichel.

If sven rates him high enough to want to bring him to the club, who the hell is anybody else to judge before he's even kicked a ball for us?

Everybody said at the end of the season we need a new keeper, the first name that came into my head was Kasper but i thought we'd have no chance since leeds seemed to rate him. The negativity about new keepers coming to our club is just getting ridiculous now. Were getting a keeper who's better than we already have, what is the problem?

oh right...

WEEEEEALE WEEEEALE WEEEEEALE

urghhhhhhh, we need a new keeper, get over it.

Oh and no he did'nt do that well at Man City at all. He did ok for a few months then got dropped to the bench.

Because of the emergence of the current England no1?

Yeah... that helps your argument! lol

As is Schmeichel

I dont think there's much in it between him and weale personally. Both have the gaff factor as well as the wow factor.

Posted

Everton are getting rid of their back up keeper because he wants first team football and they respect he's too good for the bench according to their rag, Jan Mucha, anyone know much? Seen him in the world cup and looked decent. Saved 4 pens in his 2 games for Everton :dunno:

Schmeichel kept four clean sheets in those 6 or whatever games.

And was replaced by Joe Hart, England's number one.

I think Kasper have done well everywhere. He was a little dodgy in the air and on crosses at Man City and maybe he still is. He's probably still developing his game though and looking att what we have, we should be very happy with this signing I think. Iäd love to have Shay Given between the sticks but it didn't happen so I settle with Kasper which is an improvement on Chris Weale, I hope Chris stays though and support Kasper(if it happens) as a backup keeper cause Weale is anyhow a decent keeper.

Why are they morons? Just because fans chanted his name when he was the best keeper we had at the time?(but wasnt being picked?)if kasper comes weale will be long forgotten

Such a retarded statement, ignoring the fact that Weale being the best keeper we had is entirely debatable.

A good signing, if the deal is done.

We won't get anyone better unless Westwood/Given was ever on the cards... hopefully Westwood ends up in the Prem & not at Leeds or another rival and in the case of Given... Schmeichel is at the right age to 'grow' with us wheras as Given himself would need replacing before long anyway.

Schmeichel ably supported by Weale

Sounds pretty damn good to me

Westwood has signed for Sunderland.

Weale isn't good enough to play regular first team football, Sven clearly believes that, so for me he isn't good enough for the bench either.

first4LCFC thinks that there is competition for Schmeichel just asked him and he said that West Ham would be interested as Rob Green's future looks in doubt. :dunno:

Mate they know diddly squat, they aren't an inside source. They just pass on rumours around the web.

http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/latest-whites-news/leeds_united_boss_keen_to_ring_defensive_changes_1_3505452

The facts surrounding Kasper Schmeichel’s proposed sale to Leicester City were confused at best and troubling at worst. When the announcement came, some took it as a sign of Leeds United’s willingness to trade valuable players as soon as the price was right.

The club’s manager, Simon Grayson, justified the deal by stating it would maximise the return on a goalkeeper whose contract expires in 2012. Grayson claimed there was no prospect of extending that contract; Schmeichel reacted with surprise, saying no offer had ever been put to him.

The only certainty was that a transfer involving Schmeichel had not been mooted at the Dane’s request.

News of the agreement and the financial considerations behind it raised the question of what might happen if other prized members of Grayson’s squad attracted persuasive interest as the summer wore on. Robert Snodgrass has already been the subject of one offer from Norwich City and Max Gradel is on the radar of both Swansea City and Hamburg. Newcastle United began monitoring Gradel many months ago.

How likely their departures would be on the back of Schmeichel’s exit is nevertheless a matter of conjecture.

Available

Despite Grayson’s initial comments, sources at Leeds say the decision to negotiate a transfer with Leicester was driven by their manager’s desire to improve a defensive unit which conceded 79 league goals last season and a feeling that more consistent keepers are available in the summer market.

Grayson is thought to have been unconvinced by Schmeichel’s performances over the course of 12 months at Elland Road. The 24-year-old made 40 appearances last season behind a backline which proved to be United’s weakness.

The club held one of the worst defensive records in the Championship while finishing as the league’s second highest scorers, and Grayson is understood to see a change of keeper as a partial, but necessary, step towards addressing that failing.

The Leeds boss moved to clarify his thinking yesterday, saying: “I’m trying to improve the back four or five, and when you concede the number of goals we did, it’s obviously an area where one or two players are vulnerable. We need to change it around.

“There are good options for goalkeepers out there, so this was a footballing decision first and foremost but obviously the Bosman ruling quickens decisions for you. We have other alternatives who will make us better and that’s why you make difficult decisions at times.”

The wisdom of a £1.5m deal with Leicester would be judged on the quality of Schmeichel’s replacement, and Leeds are assessing their options with pre-season training due to begin a week tomorrow. Coventry City keeper Keiren Westwood is a prime target but Sunderland are bidding to sign the Republic of Ireland international and their ability to exceed United’s offer of wages could make his signature unattainable. Huddersfield Town’s Alex Smithies and Burnley’s Lee Grant are more realistic possibilities.

In effect, Schmeichel’s exit will continue the gradual break-up of the team thrown at the Championship by Grayson in August......

The article continues, but talks mainly about the defence

Basically they seem to think Kasper was inconsistent and although their defence was as dogshite as ours, they seem to think they can improve on Schmeichel anyway... that being the case (although I'm happy with him signing) how good a signing would he be, should we get him?

I can't see Kasper going to West Ham where he knows all he will do is keep the bench warm whilst Rob Green is playing. I think we would have the advantage of offering him the No. 1 shirt, plus the fact he has worked with Sven before....

Face it.. the deal is as good as done.

Sticking my neck out here but if any bookies would take a bet on him coming to us I'd stick a few hundred on it.

I dont rate Hart much either to be honest.

Just look at the gift he gave King in the Fa Cup game, he is between the sticks for England because he is the best of an average bunch, and none of them are fit to lace Shilton's boots.

Given is a much better keeper in my opinion.

And that's just it, it's my opinion, and I shouldn't be slated for it, I am not rude to anyone else because they dont agree with me.

Dont come crying on here when Kasper lets a soppy one in.

Grayson is no fool and thinks he can take good money for an average player and turn it into something better for his club than they have now and I can fully see where he is coming from.

Meanwhile old Kasper is just wetting himself at excitement at joining us........not.

Bad vibes all round for me, and seeing as the player concerned is nothing that special I dont see the point but there you go.
