Corky Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Where have I ever said everybody is a plastic fan? samjohnson said everything. Everyone came out of the woodwork for the Man City game and the Scunthorpe game - last home game of the League 1 season. This will also happen for the Real Madrid match. Those 'additional' supporters who don't usually attend are generally plastic fans. They are once a year supporters. Just for those games? We have around 14k sth's, out of an average crowd of 23k. Take into account on average 1.5-2k away fans and that leaves 7,000 single ticket buyers who don't attend every game. Probably a lot of those came to those particular games making up a bigger crowd. Yes you will get some people who only choose to go to the big matches but not all are like that, I'd say a large number of attending fans go to more than one home match a season.
ScouseFox Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Is someone who just goes to, let's say just Preston, Scunthorpe, Doncaster and Burnley away a plastic fan? Just a few mates want to know.
Fosse Boy Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 I'd also add that I know a fair few lads who actively boycott home games and would far from call them plastic. Plasticity for me is summed up by the sort of guy who will buy a seaston ticket if we hit the top flight again, but will go back to watching Man Yoo in the pub as soon as we go straight back down. If you're Leicester, you're Leicester and if you're not, you're a placcy - end of.
leicesterseddon Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 I think all the talk about commitment, etc. is missing the point. I don't think people who use the term 'plastic fan' use it to denote part-time fans or those who only seem to follow success...from what I can see, it is more to do with fan culture. As far as I can tell, the people on this forum tend to use it to describe fans who are 1) Less likely to attend away matches, even if they go to most or all of the home games 2) More likely to want to sit down during games 3) Less likely to participate in terrace songs, particularly new or innovative ones 4) Middle-aged 5) More inclined to prefer a more comfortable environment in which to watch the game, possibly at the expense of creating a good or hostile atmosphere As I said, these are just my impressions of other people's usage....
Father Ted Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Did you not read DavieG's post as well? About other commitments or situations that people are in which mean they can't attend more than once a season? Do those once-a-year supporters/plastic fans include those from abroad? Take VinceNoir (I think it was him) and his brother, who came abroad for one game against Bristol City back in February. He came over for one game. Is he a plastic fan? People who come from abroad are a different set of people. Take VinceNoir and SoccerrooFox and those from Sweden who came before, they all make the effort to go to games when they are in the country. That is not a plastic fan at all. As for DavieG's post, yes, people do have commitments, of course, but when I am talking about the Real Madrid friendly, I have friends at college, who are Man Utd fans, never been to the Walkers before and they are going to the Real Madrid match. This is where the difference comes in. If we got to a final at Wembley, those loyal ones with other commitments - I am sure will make it to the final. But these 'Man U fans' won't turn up.
BrummieFOX Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Is someone who just goes to, let's say just Preston, Scunthorpe, Doncaster and Burnley away a plastic fan? Just a few mates want to know. What a pathetic post. Why does it matter?! At the moment it's not very often we get games big enough to attract 'plastic' fans and when we do, at least the stadiums nice and full. Far rather that than us be on Sky and have an embarrassingly empty stadium. I don't think out fanbase is big enough for it to be a problem that we have a few fans which only turn up for the big games. I have a few mates who don't have season tickets however they've never struggled to get a ticket wen they want come along. I get the frustration when suddenly an extra 8,000 people turn up when big teams are in town but **** it, it's never going to change.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 I'm a bandwagon supporter don't go to games and only jump on when we win trophies....

Don't agree with any almost every word of this. 1) Away matches can be extremely expensive and a lot of fans can't afford the cost of traveling away. 2) Just because you sit down and have respect for the person behind you doesn't mean you don't love the club. 3) some people are shy. Just because you're shy doesn;t mean you don't love the club. 4) Not even going to bother with this one! 5) Watching a team live isn;t everyone's cup of tea. You can be a true fan and not go live if your preference is the radio or the tv. People who come from abroad are a different set of people. Take VinceNoir and SoccerrooFox and those from Sweden who came before, they all make the effort to go to games when they are in the country. That is not a plastic fan at all. Agree with this. I live in Texas and whenever I get back to the UK i always get at least one game in. Plus I went to see the Leicester youth team in Dallas . Anyway back to the point of the thread, everyone supports our club in a different way. Be it going to every game, listening to every game on the radio or dancing around the streets every saturday singing how much you love leicester at the top of your voice. To me, a plastic fan is someone who only comes out to the big games for no other reason than watching a bigger team, or jumping on the bandwaggon during the play offs. A true "non plastic" fan is someone that cares about the club year round win or lose.
Dan Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 The woman who is always on Coach One without fail, slags off the team constantly, always moaning about the team, moaning about fans standing and singing, seeing herself as an elite for going to every game in a replica and snobbing off at anyone who doesn't go all 46. She's a plastic, not actually a "fan" of Leicester for me.
ACF Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 Been to one game at the Walkers, and one away at Crewe. Plastic.
Wymsey Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 The woman who is always on Coach One without fail, slags off the team constantly, always moaning about the team, moaning about fans standing and singing, seeing herself as an elite for going to every game in a replica and snobbing off at anyone who doesn't go all 46. She's a plastic, not actually a "fan" of Leicester for me. So a fan who has the right to moan makes them a 'plastic' fan does it? Brilliant.

topharry123 Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 He makes it very clear that that's the impression he gets on this board, not that they're his views. I know, maybe I should have made that clearer.
Craig Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 People keep saying about these 'extra' fans turning up... sure, there may be a few, but I think it's being overexaggerated a lot. Maybe a lot the fans that go to 5-10 games a season all turned up for the same game? ala man city/play-offs/local derbies.
Dan Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 So a fan who has the right to moan makes them a 'plastic' fan does it? Brilliant. Yes, that was exactly my point. My point was, despite going to all these games etc... she's offering nothing but negativity, I moan about some things but this woman is something else, I simply cannot see where she gets her enjoyment from going to football, depressing as fvck. My definition of a plastic is someone who only turns up when it's the big sides, but only in some circumstances. Being fair, if you're like, limited to going say 4/5 games a season due to money/work then fair enough, but it's when you get people who bang on about how much they love LCFC, don't ever go unless we're playing Man City/Madrid/Play-off games. The worst ones are the Man Utd/Liverpool "fans" who claim how small-time LCFC are, yet they're straight to our ground if Real Madrid are in town, utterly cringeworthy.
Dan Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 And I'll also say I was probably wrong about "plastic" for that woman. If anything, she's just a total div who shouldn't bother going, does my head in she does, always tend to bump into her as well ffs.
Haydos Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 The worst ones are the Man Utd/Liverpool "fans" who claim how small-time LCFC are, yet they're straight to our ground if Real Madrid are in town, utterly cringeworthy. Why is that 'cringeworthy'? They're not even being hypocritical for **** sake. Clearly they just want to watch Madrid who will be on show here. There should be preventative measures by the club to stop this and prioritise City fans as much as possible, yes. But cringeworthy? Another buzzword that gets thrown around without people actually thinking what it means.

I'm fed up of these Man U fans laughing at me when Leicester lose and calling us shit, but all of a sudden, Leicester are their 2nd team and they will be watching them against Real Madrid. Fcuk off.
Filbert_Ross Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 Yes it is cringeworthy. I'm fed up of these Man U fans laughing at me when Leicester lose and calling us shit, but all of a sudden, Leicester are their 2nd team and they will be watching them against Real Madrid. Fcuk off. no. they just wanna watch Real Madrid not watch leicester as their 2nd team.

He didn't say anything about people claiming Leicester were their 2nd team, slagging them off at the same time, then coming to watch Leicester play. He said they slagged off Leicester then came to watch Real Madrid play.
danlcfc4ever Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 'Plastic' is just a bullshit term... why are people getting so wound up about it? My mate, who to be honest knows very little about football still comes with the lads to enjoy the beer and the atmosphere. He's a loud one and sings for 90 minutes. Does his lack of footballing knowledge make him plastic? My step brother lives in Cornwall but when he's up here always goes to a game or two, so he's not plastic. To be honest... anyone who comes onto the FoxesTalk forum in the summer break cant be plastic in my eyes as they obviously care enough about their club to come on here and find out whats going on whilst 'plastic' fans will be asking their mates.. "who are Leicester playing this weekend?"
Dan Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 It's definitely cringeworthy. By "Real Madrid are in town", I mean Leicester playing them, as their 2nd team, the one they always slag off when we lose at Cardiff, when we draw with Doncaster, we're "shit", when Real Madrid are playing. "Oh I'd love us to beat them". "Us" Jesus.
Christoph Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 Quite shocking how many people actually care about so called 'plastic' fans. Didn't realise the majority of this forum were aged 9. NU ERGH, IM A BIGGER SUPPORT THAN YOU, LOOK I EVEN HAVE AN LCFC TATTOO. Bellends.
hairy Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 The term 'plastic fan' is used by other fans as a form of snobbery. "I am a bigger fan than you" etc. Another term used by snobs is "prawn sandwich brigade". Its in people's mentality to alienate other people and cubby hole them into not being like them even when they are all following the same cause. Its best to ignore people who use such terms.
