jonthefox Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 fans are protesting at villa park tonight. Would we do the same if davies or non league nige were linked with us? http://www.birminghammail.net/birmingham-sport/birmingham-city-fc/birmingham-city-fc-news/2011/06/15/aston-villa-fans-plan-protest-today-against-alex-mcleish-at-villa-park-97319-28881559/
Corky Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 Is there actually a manager that the Man United of the Midlands fans want?
One Arm Babba Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 I think they are dead right too. McLeish is a very underwhelming manager. I'm amazed that they have even looked at him. there are way better managers out there that Villa could have gone for. It does make me laugh though when they are adamant that they are going to burn their kit n season ticket.... you know they wont.
Brown Fox Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 Hate villa with a passion. Always thought they were a huge club and still do. Arseholes. Can't wait to see their team next year, no downing no young and I can see bent leaving soon as well. He's also a greedy twat with absolutely no ambition.

ajthefox Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 McLeish is a decent manager and they could do worse IMO, but I see why they might be angry. Having said that, if it was me I wouldn't be too bothered. I wouldn't want Billy Davies or Nigel Clough in charge of us, but thats because I don't like either of them, not because they've managed rival clubs.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 How does Darren Bent have no ambition? Because he left Spurs where he was getting zero playing time, to go to Sunderland in the hope of boosting his international prospects, and representing his country at the highest level? Unambitious, greedy twat, eh.

The guy is a a prune faced cunny and every time I hear that stupid nickname it makes me want to throw my radio out the window.

Clough I would be unhappy with. McLeish is a poor manager. One of my mates is a Brum fan and says he is an awful manager who just sets his team up not to lose. Boring boring football.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 Plus I think anyone who's surprised by the Villa reaction has failed to realize just how fierce a rivalry it is.
Corky Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 Plus I think anyone who's surprised by the Villa reaction has failed to realize just how fierce a rivalry it is. I'm not surprised, I just wonder who the Villa fans want and who they can realistically get.
purpleronnie Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 It's hard to make a comparison as Leicester dont have a rivalry that comes close to villa v brum.
BrummieFOX Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 I wouldn't be too fussed about Davies because he's proven. Clough I would be unhappy with. McLeish is a poor manager. One of my mates is a Brum fan and says he is an awful manager who just sets his team up not to lose. Boring boring football. That doesn't make him a poor manager. He's given them their first trophy in over 60 years and their highest position (9th) for a long time as well. They play terrible football granted, but he has had achievements there. I agree with most regarding his appointment though, it would be incredibly underwhelming for a team who were challenging for 4th a few seasons back under O'Neill.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 Going from Winning the Carling Cup and being 14th in the league to getting relegated is a bit shit though.
MikeyT Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 Sky Sports News understands Aston Villa will confirm the appointment of Alex McLeish as their new manager in the next 24 hours. The former Birmingham, Rangers and Scotland boss held what are believed to have been 'productive' talks with Villa owner Randy Lerner in London on Wednesday. And McLeish is now expected to be handed the reins of the Midlands outfit to fill the void created by Gerard Houllier's departure due to ill health at the end of the season. A section of disgruntled supporters gathered at Villa Park on Wednesday night to voice their displeasure at the impending arrival of the man who guided Birmingham to the Carling Cup last season, but also oversaw their relegation from the Premier League. Desire However, that protest, and the graffiti daubed at the club's Bodymoor Heath training ground, does not appear to have affected Lerner's desire to make an appointment which has caused major debate in the Second City. Villa have seen a number of names linked with their vacancy, with Mark Hughes, Rafa Benitez, Steve McClaren and Roberto Martinez all previously in the frame. But Scottish tactician McLeish now appears certain to be appointed and tasked with improving on Villa's fortunes from last season. The Villans flirted with relegation at times last term before eventually ending the campaign in ninth place, which was still a disappointment following on from the back-to-back sixth placed finishes secured under Martin O'Neill.
Brown Fox Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 How does Darren Bent have no ambition? Why would he leave Sunderland to go to Villa when Sunderland were pushing for Europe and Villa were wallowing 15th/16th. That coupled with the fact Houillers job was always in doubt because of health problems and villa fans hating him. Why would he jump ship to a club that is doing nothing, has lower attendances, not much stability and knowing that half the players are going to leave, namely Young and Downing, who are they only 2 in the whole team worth shouting about. He went for the money and nothing else, which is why I see him as a greedy, unambitious knob who thinks he's better than he is.
Samilktray Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 Well consistently being 1 of the highest scoring Englishmen in the Premier League means he can think hes as good as he wants to really.
Brown Fox Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 Well consistently being 1 of the highest scoring Englishmen in the Premier League means he can think hes as good as he wants to really. Yeah fair play. Obviously he's good and has an amazing record, I'm not doubting that, (although he is a teeensy bit overrated ), I just personally didn't like his move to Villa. Talk about a sidewards step.

It was slightly sideways, but Villa had consistently been in Europe for the previous few years. Young and Downing moves wern't particularly on the cards back then and Bent probably might have been thinking that Bruce had took Sunderland as far as they could go, with serious investment in the future looking doubtful. Villa in many people's eyes are a bigger club than Sunderland and the pull of being in the second city might have enticed bent into the move. He might have fancied a change and clearly if you were offered more money for the job you love doing you would consider taking it. Ambition doesn't really come into it.

Yeah I get you, just don't like the guy. Also Villa may be seen as a bigger club but they still get smaller crowds and at Sunderland he had a good bet of getting into Europe and he also lived in Newcastle which personally I see as better than Birmingham. This is just my opinion, he might have a completely valid reason for moving but all we can do is speculate and in that I think he's a tit
SystonFox Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 what made me laugh was on SSN the villa fans were being asked why don't they want McCleish and the only real response from many was "Because he's managed those blues up the road." It's as if he was shagging their sister or wife or something, most people in Birmingham are anyway so maybe they're onto him? also i'd like to know where the nickname big eck came from? its shit

Don't know where the 'Big' comes from.
Narborough_fox Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 McLeish is a fine manager in my eyes, lead Brum to 9th in there first season in the Prem and won the Leaghue Cup before getting some long-term injuries to some of his major players. Don't get how people can call him "crap"
BlueSi13 Posted 19 June 2011 Posted 19 June 2011 This. Villa are a much bigger club than Sunderland Debatable, Sunderland are a much bigger club than people give them credit for. It's going to be tough for McLeish, going into a club where the fans are almost want you to fail before you even begin, along with the club being almost resigned to losing their best players, the future does not look bright for Aston Villa. It won't be nice either living in a city where half the people want to kill you, and the other half doesn't want to know you. McLeish is going to have to perform AMAZINGLY right from the kick off to turn the mood of the club, players and fans around.
